While "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" has some of Billie's most personal and thought-out lyrics, it feels like she sacrificed the instrumentation as a result, leading this record to feel a bit basic at times.
Very interesting concept and definitely one of the most exhilarating and consistent synthpop records of the decade.
In a way, "Chromakopia" feels like the reverse of "IGOR" with its more introspective approach to songwriting, and some of Tyler's most honest and critical lyricism to date.
An impressive rebound from "Scaled and Icy", but "Clancy" is quite inconsistent in its quality and theming.
An impressive display of songwriting talent, instrumental and orchestration vigor, and a perfect sense of ebb-and-flow that make "Monarch of Monsters" one of the best rock records ever. Listening to this record reminded me of the the first time I heard MCR's "The Black Parade", and in many ways they share similar qualities.
Porter Robinsons yet again evolves hist sound with a more pop-centric appeal, but the lyricism is the most emotionally impactful Porter's ever been, and the songs are just so catchy and memorable - all you'd want and more from any album. Quite literally a perfect pop record.
Excellent fusion of hip-hop and jazz; just wish it was longer.
A girl who liked me told me to listen to this, and despite my inability to understand romance or flirting, I am at least glad I don't have to pretend I like this record anymore.
A perfect example of camp used correctly. Easily one of the best and most consistent debuts I've heard of this decade.
I personally resonate with a way most of the themes are talked about in this record, even if superficial. I will say, I don't think AJR is capable of replicating what was done on "The Maybe Man."
It's not the most creatively bankrupt album ever, but "Will of the People" definitely shows Muse's age as a band.
This feels like the true follow-up to TPAB, and was definitely worth the several years wait. The storytelling and writing on this record are at a near-all-time high for Kendrick, and I feel as though this record doesn't get nearly as much credit as his others.
Incredibly unique song structures for a rock band, and a debut at that.
