I'm coming back to this godless site just to say that Techno is the best song of the last 5 years. ok bye.
Been following YHWH Nailgun for about half a year now and they stand as one of the most unique-sounding bonkers bands out there. Every song you listen to from them is incredibly textured, varied, and front-loaded with some of the best instrumentation you'll find in contemporary punk. This album is a very simple continuation of this, maybe a little tarnished from how many singles they released, but ultimately it's great song after great song making a pretty damn great album.
Been listening to this album on repeat for 4 days and it is such a creative feat in the purest sense. It's one of those listens where you can feel the "throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks" in your soul, it's an album entirely dedicated to being as fun and lively and jubilant as possible while still maintaining the fact that it is this beast ass incredible feat technically and artistically. With that creativity comes a pretty unique sense of knowing this ... read more
Incredibly impactful production and I'm really loving this more sombre sonic identity.
Mix on yt is fucked tho yeah, spotify's is a (bit) better
Good if not great furtherance of Dixon's sound. I just wish these keys were different man :(
I find myself sitting with this album and being a little underwhelmed, a little disappointed, and a little peeved.
But only a little.
Ghostholding isn't bad, it also isn't great, shit if I'm being honest I don't think I know any singular word that can convey what I feel about it. I felt similarly about Census Designated, neither album is the artistic and creative tour de force they clearly want to be, they are too one note (and derivative) to be so. I come away still ... read more
Is this... this is parody right? This is like a really elaborate bit and I am dreaming right? Right??!?!
Before I start.
Dear Mark Kozelek,
next time you want to strip naked in a hotel room in front of unconsenting women you should consider the fact that many people would very lovingly like to bash your head in :)
Now for the "album" if you wanna call it that.
I don't think this constitutes music, not even in a dismissive of spoken word or multidisciplinary art way. I ... read more
The appeal of Ghais Guevera’s music is his lyricism, plain and simple. You can cite his production or his flows but at the end of the day what makes Ghais Ghais is the diversity and strength of his writing. With no other artist will you find the ability to entertain and evoke so clearly and with such strength, with no other artist will you find punchline-filled declarations of dominance over the rap game and visceral political anthems about the fracturing of the Black Lives Matter ... read more
Moor Mother remains one of the best writers in contemporary art. Such a raw and emotive instrumental to go along with said writing makes for a song that is just so fucking metal.
GOAT DROPPED!!!!
This does feel like a pretty straightforward continuation of his sound on ILMLDFY with just as infectious an energy as the songs on that album. I do have a few problems with this, I do wish the vocals were a bit louder in the mix at times, and I am finding that Peggy is getting a little derivative of himself with regard to lyricism, repeated are many of the same themes as his previous work without him providing any new nuance or interesting conclusions. He is largely pursuing ... read more
You are all smoking weed and this song is great shout out to Rudy Gobert while I'm here.
I mean I get the appeal of this album, it's a deeply lush and dark sound that purely serves good when stacked atop of Ethel Cain's incredible vocals. Yet, for me, it doesn't do much, it just isn't evocative enough, not emotionally, sonically, or creatively. The conclusion I keep coming back to is: of all albums like this one, why on earth would I choose to listen to this one? What does this offer that a Uboa or Current 93 album doesn't? None of this is to say this is a ... read more
SPELLLING? More like... serving.
A genuine refreshing return to form for SPELLLING, I cheered.
I wasn't really sure how or even if this song would work purely off the feature, but suffice it to say billy woods is great on this track and slots in nicely with the instrumental. The instrumental itself is appealing with how lush and dreamy it is, but ultimately I do think it does start to get a little monotonous. Panchiko themselves still fail to capture my attention as a band and I am slowly becoming jaded to their sound.
This project contains many of the dance-pop mannerisms that I tend to shy away from and dislike. They're what has ruined most of glaive's recent creative output for me in technicality and frankly dragged me away from the scene as a whole. What I find fascinating about this EP is that while those mannerisms are present in this unavoidable fashion, the technical degree to which they are executed is stunning. Kurtains' delivery is exacting and unwavering, forming these precise ... read more
The charm of an album like I’m New Here stems not from its intensely personal themes or any real musical quality, but rather, from its oddity. What is obvious from the outset of this record is its use of the spoken word, while not revolutionary in its adoption of this kind of presentation, the manner in which it is presented: with zealous, compassionate, and deeply caring delivery is one seldom seen. This passion courses throughout the album, there are little to no moments across the ... read more
