It took me way too long to give this mixtape a listen, every single moment on every single song is fantastic. Glass Table Girls is one of the few songs in a long time that has made me experience something within music for the first time, fan fucking tastic.
To preface this review, it is biased, it is incredibly informal, and this review will be unique in that it won't be as critical of the music as I typically am, I don't really even plan on describing the music itself. When this album was announced I knew I was going to love it, I was expecting good things, after all, peggy is my favorite artist oat and Danny Brown is largely responsible for forming my music taste as it is. Despite all of this, I never expected this album, I love this album ... read more
This album surmounts EL-P as not only the greatest white rapper, but also as the better half of RTJ (Still love killer mike tho). This LP while by no means short makes the most of its runtime staying entertaining throughout, this is done mainly by constantly switching up or adding elements to the brash and powerful production. What few features are on this LP do an incredibly thorough job of not only making the most of their individual performances but also complimenting EL-P's already ... read more
Better than ants from up here, sorry not sorry. This is easily the best collection of post-punk that I have heard and I imagine I will hear for quite some time.
Favs: All of it
Chock-full of dense lyrics and meaning, intricate and soulful production, and punchy features that don't wain in the slightest from billy woods's masterful performances, namely that from EL-P. This album while not super accessible, even by experimental hip-hop standards is a great one.
Prior to listening to this album, I was never a fan of any sort of pop or pop subgenre. That has since changed, Mercurial World is a tantalizing and expansive experience, creating a dreamlike auditory escape that I have yet to see replicated. This album is by no means the best of its kind or perfect, but unlike many of its counterparts within the genre, it is fun and unique, and really what more could I ask for from this album?
This was the first experimental hip-hop album I ever listened to and it has stuck with me since, at no point does this album not have my full attention. Great production, lyricism, and storytelling.
Also, the vinyl is very very nice.
This album and Atrocity Exhibition are what will make me always love experimental hip hop, there is no singular point anywhere within the tracklist where I fine myself not entirely engorged with the master production, mixing, and just plain old peggy.
I LOVE JPEGMAFIA!!!!!
a very odd departure from the gecs previous sound
hey big man(7/10) is a brash, violent and loud digital hardcore song that while having a significant lack of lyrical quality still kinda bangs
torture me(5/10) is all around very sloppy, too sloppy for me even, if anything I think this song worsened any titinus I had
runaway(9/10) THATS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR BABY; Kayne who??
a little sceptical ab how this will play out on 10000 gecs but excited none the less
yeah sure this is a thing that exists now ๐ง
brakence got them VOCALS
fav: intellectual greed, introvert, deepfake, preparation exercise no. 7
Very very very good album, Quadeca has improved massively since voice memos and this album shows it. Very fun concept and great execution, amazing production and instrumentation, lyrics felt a little tiny bit corny during the first half but the second half massively makes up for it.
Also Danny Brown rapping about being carbon monoxide is the greatest thing to ever happen in the history of music.
Guys I'm pretty sure when the pawn hits the conflict he thinks like a king.
through your window is easily my favorite grunge track, 2 of Julie's best songs. Songwriting is on point, and the vocals THE VOCALS. Two amazing tracks.
oh Faye Webster, I love this album so so so much. Filled with soft-spoken yet powerful and intimate songs Atlanta Millionaires Club is undeniably beautiful. God knows how many times I have bawled to this album, not necessarily because it's a sad album but because it is simply so, freeing, so captivating, and so vivid. All this being said, this album is not flawless, far from it, the last 2 tracks don't need to exist. Yet, I find that it is within the flaws of this album that I find my love for ... read more
Solid album that stay inconsistent on quality, makes it up with good vocals and songwriting, could be better, could be worse
absurdly good, but also runs on the short side, some tracks(skipping tiles, lochness) massively out preform others.
