not particularly innovative or unique but Mick Jenkins delivers an extremely well polished and slick hip-hop record, swaying toward some more hard hitting rap than some of his previous work and it pays off. despite dropping off slightly towards the second half the quality overall is still high.
in summary, Mick Jenkins shows that you don’t need to be abstract or experimental to deliver one of the best rap albums of the year, bravo.
Not quite Smiling With No Teeth, but Genesis Owusu came at this album with a totally different approach so i can’t expect to see them in a similar light but nevertheless i thoroughly enjoyed the album. Besides the opener, it got off to a bit of a slow start but picked up at Freak Boy as we saw some more of Owusu’s innovative production and encapsulating vocals. Shoutout all the roaches🪳
has some catchy songs but i’m sadly left a little let down by Newport’s L E M F R E C K with his 2nd LP. I’m a much bigger fan of his debut The Pursuit but maybe because i just prefer sound on it but i thought this new record lacked the diversity, energy and personality that his debut had. After, See Me Now, Red Hot and That Guy are highlights.
Vegyn’s instrumentals are mostly pretty good but the spoken word crosses the line into nearly unbearable levels of cringe and cliché much too often
I mean there’s nothing musically wrong with it
Just really long and kinda boring
[relisten: 75->78] - highlights hit harder this time, but my takeaways from the original review still apply
Paris Texas are single-handedly spearheading the rap-rock scene. Nobody comes close
99 Neighbors rapper conswank delivers a short, fun, consistent rap project. Not much more to it just pretty solid all round
picked up a lot in the 2nd half
another unique ass hip-hop project, as we’ve come to expect from the iconic BUSDRIVER
this album may not be amazing by any means, but we’ll never have another rapper like this guy
solid project, not quite as good as perfect hair and temporary forever though
Feel like i’m getting beaten up repeatedly. i love it. do i have a pain kink????
loses a little momentum in the 2nd half but still a brilliant rap album, the rough production is great fun
very cool instrumentally and a slight improvement on ULTRAMARINE but i still think Wesley has more in his locker. I think i’d like to hear him sing more
people are slandering it for being duster lite but i don’t see too much of an issue with that it’s still pretty good (that interlude makes me want to projectile vomit though)
i don’t wanna skip any of the songs but there’s nothing too special about them either
