Black Country, New Road - Besties

this is the happiest day of my life

Jeff Buckley - Grace
100

rip jeff buckley

this album probably is the greatest alt rock album ever

grace, despite being an accsesible album, it manages to remain interesting with its instrumentals, riffs, lyrics variety and, most importantly, jeff buckley's incredibly angelic performances and voice, i didn't know a man could reach such high notes.

basically this album is a classic

you also get some long songs, almost reaching 7 minutes, like hallelujah, which doesn't even feel like 7 minutes and never ... read more

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA
80

why she looking at me like she about to eat me 😭

all jokes aside this is a pretty good project

eusexua is a concise experience with a lot of floaty, tight edm bangers mixed with fka twigs' gorgeous voice and performances

however, i'm not as crazy as everyone is on this project, i don't really like the mixing on some of these songs (i still like the project).

i think it can grow on me though

Mac Miller - Balloonerism
90

again, why are we getting albums so good so early?

i'll start by saying rip mac miller, and that if this album is the last project we get from him, i wanna say thank you to his family for letting these 2 amazing posthoumous albums drop, and i offer my deepest condolences to them, it's heart-breaking that we lost such an amazing artist and a beautiful soul so soon. and also thank you mac, for making amazing music, your voice and your music just give me so much peace, rest in ... read more

Ethel Cain - Perverts
86

yeah it is weird to hear albums this good released this early on the year

well.. should i even call this an album? idk

perverts is ethel cain's 4th ep, (big parenthesis here) if you consider it an ep, it contains 9 songs which in total add up to a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes… it's quite long.

and it's also my first time listening to an ethel cain album, and oh boy, i couldn't have started worse lmao. not because the album is bad, just because it's long ... read more

Mac Miller - 5 Dollar Pony Rides

this will be an album of the year contender (at least for me) im calling it

rip mac miller

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
100

2022 was great

yeah it is sad to know that bcnr will probably not make music anymore, but im still hoping for it, at least in some kind of way (maybe under a new name, idk).

ants from up there is bcnr's magnum opus, and probably the best rock album of the decade, and that is no small feet considering this decade is not even over.

everything on this album beyond dramatic and theatrical, but not in a way that it is annoying or bad, everything actually ends up blending in an amazing way. ... read more

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She

briefly reviewing albums i didn't review before the year ends because i'm dumb #1

i listened this album a couple months ago but i kept avoiding reviewing it, so after revisiting it, i'm doing it now.

it's hard to put this album into words, it has a lot of influences, but primarly it's gothic darkwave with industrial elements.

and i'm not really crazy about it.

there are a couple of really good songs but i find the instrumentals to be kind of boring and ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
92

listening to this rn feels illegal lmao

k-dot is back with probably his most simplistic and raw album ever, but it still has that kendrick flavor to it.

GNX is basically a love letter to west coast hip hop, and i love it. GNX may not be as storytelling heavy as albums like to pimp a butterfly or good kid maad city, but it's still an album full of catchy hooks, amazing beats, and bangers, overall it is a very tight, enjoyable experience.

despite of not being his best album, it's ... read more

Charli xcx - BRAT
97

i'm briefly rewriting my review for this album

and i'm also lowering the score because i think there are better albums than this one this year (i still think this is an outstanding album)

brat literally made me a fan of charli xcx, it is that good. you rarely see pop albums with this much personality and creativity nowadays.

i'm also really happy for charli because she made her best and most commercially succesful album, and not only that, this album overall became a worldwide ... read more

Linkin Park - From Zero
37

it's bad

i feel like this album shouldn't have existed under the linkin park name

it feels weird

maybe if they had formed a new band and made this album i would have appreciated it a little bit more

but it's still a bad album

Mount Eerie - Night Palace
93

2024 is the best year for music i've experienced since i gained consciousness

and it is because of albums like this (and the kendrick vs drake beef obviously)

phil elverum is back as mount eerie with probably his best effort since a crow looked at me.

night palace is a very inmersive, abrasive, monumental but still beautiful album. it is 1 hour and 20 minutes of beautiful chaos, full of introspective lyrics and post-rock inspired instrumentals. every song here paints such a vivid, ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA
88

yeah this is easily one of his best albums

honestly, soundwise this reminds me of old tyler, but the lyrics are better. but it's still something really different.

"CHROMAKOPIA" is a very weird soul inspired hip hop record. some aspects of it remind me of igor but it's something a lot different. i feel like it's way more experimental, psychedelic and more rap oriented than igor. and i really like that.

songs here are filled with jazzy, soulful synths, guitars, and ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - Noid

this mf is going to drop 4 acclaimed albums in a row

such a goat

C418 - Minecraft - Volume Alpha
100

𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮:
a feeling of pleasure and also slight sadness when you think about things that happened in the past.

in other words, it is this album.

minecraft - volume alpha contains some of the most emotionally potent music i've ever heard. and it's unsurprisingly one of my favourite albums of all time.

every single song here is amazing, they flow seamlessly, they are powerful, warm and sometimes really melancholic. there is just not a single miss on this ... read more

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "NO TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28,340 DEAD"
97

FREE PALESTINE 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸

godspeed is back with probably their best modern effort (from the 2010s to now).

but before i dive deeper into the music, i got to adress the genocide happening in gaza right now

what's happening is completely degenerate and us as a society can't allow this. over 40,000 people, including children and whole families have been killed. it is inhumane to have inoccent people that have nothing to do with the conflict killed with no mercy. ... read more

Geordie Greep - The New Sound
96

yeah, black midi breaking up was one of the saddest music related music news this year for me. until i realized greep was dropping a solo album.

the new sound basically takes everything that made black midi amazing, and multiplies it by 10. the jazzy instrumentals, the funkiness, the madness, performances, everything. and it also adds new things to the mix, like the latin music influences or the more prog rock orientation.

this completely blew my expectations, because i stupidly thought this ... read more

this song is fucking amazing

from the drums, geordie's performance, the guitars, the instrumental, everything in this song is executed with madness cranked up to 11. and i love it.

one of the best songs of the year

Magdalena Bay - Image
100

this is one of the catchiest songs of the year

i'm so glad i discovered mag bay this year because they make fantastic music

this song might be the pop song of the year, and i don't say song of the year because of a man who dropped little songs called meet the grahams and not like us

Xiu Xiu - 13" Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto with Bison Horn Grips
90

xiu xiu is back with probably their best album this decade

frank beltrame is a very short and concise experience, and i love it.

the instrumentals here are very intense and psychedelic, and they are full of noisy riffs, but xiu xiu somehow manages to keep a somehow poppy and accessible flavor to it. and jamie stewart's crazy ass vibrato voice blends perfectly with the instrumentals.

and yeah this is one of the best albums of the year
