Yeat - LYFESTYLE
76

Pretty fire but not quite as good as 2093

BigXthaPlug - TAKE CARE
78

Came across this on the Apple Music charts and curiosity made me play the first song, and it so was fire that I had to hear the whole album. The production is SO GOOD, and BigXThaPlug has such a great presence on these songs. Yeah he’s basically just a one-trick-pony on here, but that one thing is just so well executed that it doesn’t really matter. So yeah, really liked this and thought it was incredibly fun and consistent, and I think he has potential to do something even more ... read more

FINNEAS - For Cryin' Out Loud!
79

Finneas has had some solo songs here and there that I've enjoyed, but his solo music had never come close to the level of the music he makes with his sister or written and produced for other artists for me. But with this album, I think it's a notable step in the right direction and I really like what he did here. Well-written, well-produced, and "Family Feud" almost made me cry!

Mustafa - Dunya
81

Beautiful album. Very well written, great performances from Mustafa, and interesting subtle contributions from people like ROSALIA, JID, & Clairo. And “Gaza Is Calling” is still one of the best songs of the year, so I’m glad it’s here.

Tommy Richman - COYOTE
76

While I respect the impulse to not put your two biggest songs on your debut album, and while I do like this album quite a bit and think it’s good, I can’t help but be disappointed considering “Million Dollar Baby” and “Devil Is A Lie” are two of my favorite singles of the year and would have been two of (if not) my favorite songs here. Really good album though, especially love “Vanity”.

Future - MIXTAPE PLUTO
69

The kind of thing where each individual song is pretty enjoyable while they’re on but as a project it all blends together and becomes a little forgettable. “Lost My Dog” is great though

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
91

Imagine having one album and having it be this good…

Jane Remover - Frailty
81

Production on this is absolutely insane

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Piñata
87

Desperately need another Freddie Gibbs & Madlib album

J Dilla - Donuts
85

Literally amazing beat after amazing beat

Rex Orange County - The Alexander Technique
78

Liked this a lot and I really appreciate the thematic approach and the effort to get extremely introspective here. But while I do like the music here a lot, there just weren’t many songs that really grabbed me and stood out as highlights first listen. Maybe repeated listens will help with that, but for now pretty great album from Rex.

Big Sean - Better Me Than You
73

There isn’t really anything unique or distinct about this but for what it is it’s doing it well. Little too long but solid effort from Big Sean.

Madvillain - Madvillainy
86

Not much to say about this that hasn’t been said…it’s great!

Nas - Illmatic
91

A rap classic for a reason

ian - Valedictorian
55

Felt like I needed to see what all the fuss was about and I literally don’t care about this at all in either direction

beabadoobee - This Is How Tomorrow Moves
84

Glad I got around to listening to this. Starts very strong and maybe doesn’t end as strong but really enjoyed a lot about this.

Doechii - Alligator Bites Never Heal
83

After the last few years of releasing numerous singles that ventured in many different directions after her promising and exciting EP in 2022, this mixtape feels like a desperate attempt for Doechii to reclaim her artistry. She even says as much in her lyrics here, referencing battles with her label and her struggles to balance the artistic and commercial aspects of her music. There are also none of the more pop-leaning singles (“TikTok songs” as she calls them) that appear on here, ... read more

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
80

I’ve been listening to this for the past few days and while I really like it and think it’s a pretty great and creative pop album, I have yet to adore it or think it’s a pop masterpiece yet like so many on here. Maybe I will see the light, but for now I just really enjoy it and that’s it!

Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love!"
84

Haven’t heard Redbone in like 3 years and coming back to it was like hearing it for the first time…like holy shit what a song

Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet
75

Even if it suffers from being a little too bland and not really having its own identity, “Short n’ Sweet” is an enjoyable pop album from Sabrina Carpenter overall. Because while many of these songs sound like exact imitations of numerous other pop artists (Mostly Taylor Swift, but also Ariana Grande, Doja Cat’s pop stuff, etc.), and while I probably couldn’t pick Sabrina Carpenter’s voice out of a lineup, the songs here are solid and well-made enough that ... read more

"@Pankace I don’t think personality necessarily means an energetic delivery or that she’s switching it up. She very clearly is having fun and having a song called Princess Diana after the memes of her being modern day Princess Diana and having many of the lyrics that she does on here shows her personality to me. The production also at times has personality, but I don’t think she’s devoid of it just because she kinda does the same thing over and over."
