There's undoubtedly a great amount of talent on this record, don't get me wrong, but it would be a lie to act like all the tracks are Chamber of Reflection's.
Simply a gorgeous album. Every part of it is pretty and ripe with emotion, and I regret not listening to it any sooner than I did. So much feeling is put into every second of the album, and it truly shows.
This is more Daft Punk music so there's not a whole lot to complain about, but it doesn't manage to reach the same heights as the original record. Which is okay! It's just meant to be a deluxe edition, after all.
Not explicitly bad, just it feels like every part overstays its welcome and Thundercat doesn't do anything to help with that issue. Tame Impala is great as always, though.
This album wasn't exactly mid but I wouldn't call it great either. It's very much a meh: a couple highs, but more often than not it falters. It feels empty if I really think about it, and while clearly having a soul to it, the project in all lacks something major which would make it feel more cohesive instead having what feels to be two different EPs with distinct styles that had their tracks mashed together into an album.
I didn't hate this album at any point, but nearly every song feels lacking in some way. I was admittedly even a little bored listening to this album, with everything sounding pretty similar but different enough to not entirely turn me away; and while the tracks are still solid at worst on their own they all feel very empty to me without any actual meat to latch onto and really enjoy. They're still super catchy and serve as some strong dance tunes, but that's it. There is no other context in ... read more
Im a starving child starving to death and this is the very last thing i have ever listened to. Gootbye
There is nothing abysmal in this album, yet at the same time there arent any highs either really. This entire LP is like a slice of turkey on white bread: certainly not awful, but there is a very noticeable lack of flavor and character to it.
EDIT: 40 -> 10 because i fucking hate melanie martinez
This is just... not it.
Rating is based purely upon the new tracks, and oh my god. They are so fucking amazing that I've been doing literally nothing but listening to them since they dropped. Ughhhhhh Tyler save some talent for the rest of the industry.
So fucking good. No matter the project or song, Tyler always manages to bring a super unique and enjoyable spin on it while not being too weird. The various samples used throughout the whole album are brilliantly done to say the least, and as a whole it simply excretes a lovely feeling throughout the entire listening experience that kept me interested for the entire listening experience.
Not straight ass in my humble opinion and has some actually good tracks (Karma, Dear Winter) but the goofy ass vocals stop some other tracks from being actually good along with some rather uncreative and boring instruments being used on a track or two. It's VERY obviously not incredible or anything but rather a charming listen with unique ups and downs; and the theming of the album, despite having a nice nostalgic appeal, does manage to wear itself thin rather quickly.
I can understand the appeal to some people, but listening just gave me a headache.
Oh my god this might be one of my new favorite albums of all time. The amount of emotional vulnerability that slowthai opens himself up to on this album is unreal, and wrenches my heart. The incredibly strong tracklist throughout the album along with great instruments to back the deep, guttural singing provided an experience unlike any other I've heard up to this point. You are able to empathize with slowthai so much on this album and can really feel his hopelessness and depression and anger ... read more
This album is really, really fun. However, at least for me, it is really hard to thoroughly enjoy every track as some totally just jump genres and moods. There's incredibly enjoyable lyrics at play here, creative instrumentals, and even some rather introspective stuff.
