Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf
80

This was a very interesting album, intrigued by its album concept, I enjoyed the connecting tissue of the radio station jargon as we cruise through both the album and the California desert. Very heavy and loud instrumentation, to its benefit, I really enjoyed it contrary to much of my album tastes. Especially the latter half, I'd say Go With The Flow and onward, are all incredible. In particular, Go With The Flow itself, God Is In the Radio, Song for the Deaf, and the finale Mosquito Song, ... read more

Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

Beautiful, soothing, thoughtful, and yet sad. Just like myself in a way. Maybe that's why I identified with this album so much; Beautiful guitar and string arrangements, with a soft voice that dances with the lyrics beautifully. I felt things with this album that I often don't feel! My favourites include Way to Blue, Day is Done, Fruit Tree, and Saturday Sun. This is a master storyteller and writer, and I'm excited to see how his next two albums build upon this here!

Bee Gees - Main Course
90

This album and the Bee Gees as a whole deserve to be more widely reviewed and listened to on this site. The amount of innovation and the eclectic level of genres represented here is truly great! Everyone knows, or should know at least, Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin', which are the first two songs on this album. You'd think with that they would've front loaded this album and filled the latter half with filler like some artists do, but no, this album is extremely consistent in ... read more

Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline
80

Dylan goes for a drastically different tone than most of his prior albums here; and that goes in multiple ways. After John Wesley Harding had more of a country feel to it, he fully embraces the country persona here. It feels pretty homey and nice! Dylan's voice is also much more melodic and smooth, it's a completely different flavour of his vocal style, I was shaken first hearing it, but I enjoy it in its own way. It's a dramatic shift in style and sound, somewhat seeming a bit ... read more

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
95

The richest sound I've heard in a rap album, heartwarming stories for a friend who passed away, and honouring those who came before us. McKinley Dixon does it and then some! I'm not typically a rap fan, so I am really drawn towards rap albums like these, that blend genres and create something so distinct from it's peers. My favourites here are Run, Run, Run Pt. 2, Listen Gentle, the title track, and Could've Been Different. This album subverted so much of what I expected ... read more

Gorillaz - Demon Days
95

This album answers the question, how many genres can you toy with and experiment in in a single album's runtime? The answer? Apparently all. This is the most unique album I've listened to thus far, no two songs are alike. And with an album that tries with so many things, you'd think something would falter, but it doesn't. Feel Good Inc. is iconic, but you've also got Dirty Harry, Kids with Guns, Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head, November Has Come! Such ... read more

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head
100

Every time I listen to a Coldplay album, I wonder how the hell the group has the reputation they have today. A Rush of Blood to the Head is emotional excellence, with tracks like God Put a Smile on Your Face, Clocks, The Scientist, and the title track, among others, making you feel the heart that's in almost every line. Not to mention the musical excellence as well, every track is clean, really leaning on the piano for the gentleness, and the guitar work, both acoustic and electric, is top ... read more

Geese - Getting Killed
40

Welp I'm Getting Killed for this one.
I like a lot of rock, but this take on it just did nothing for me. The vocals kinda give me Mick Jagger vibes, but without the dynamics that made Jagger's vocal style really work. Its way too monotone. And the instrumentation... noise. It is way too loud and messy. I just kept thinking that this just feels like noise. I did like some of the later tracks like Taxes and Bow Down but I actively disliked most of the record. Really unfortunate because ... read more

菊池ひみこ [Himiko Kikuchi] - FLYING BEAGLE

hehe cute doggie
Also this was some nice instrumental jazz, kinda just a vibe! Really enjoyed Fluffy, The Second Summer and Ducky Ducky. You come for cute doggie, and you stay for nice funky jazz.

Michael Jackson - Thriller
100

I get the notion that I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before; Thriller is a masterpiece of popular music. I might as well be talking about how Casablanca is a masterpiece of cinema, or how mac and cheese changed western civilization forever, but all of these things are true! Thriller changed the face of pop music forever when it released; Michael Jackson came into the recording process wanting this album to be one made of only single-worthy material, and by god he did ... read more

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
95

This is the kind of album that will have a hold on you from start to finish; the message behind it is as clear as it can be, and it's something that we all struggle with today; the suffering in the world, the constant bad news cycle, feeling like we're all part of a rigged game from birth. This all feels very much real right now, as much as it did back in 1989, maybe even moreso. Rhythm Nation, State of the World, and Livin' in a World (We Didn't Make) sell these idea ... read more

It had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
Dumb jokes aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the first half. Them Bones is a song I had already known but I really like it! Dam That River and Rain When I Die are good as well, and then the emotional depth behind Down In A Hole made it, ironically, the biggest high point of this album. But, after that height, I found none of the other songs after it to be that notable. Everything started sounding the same, which is a big shame for how great this record ... read more

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III
90

For an album with one of the most recognisable songs ever made (Immigrant Song) on it, yea it's pretty dang good! This and Led Zeppelin II is Zeppelin at its best, the hard sound and Robert Plant's vocal style has grown a lot on me over time! I used to not really like Zeppelin, honestly.

The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night
80

The Beatles pretty much perfected their original sound and vision with this album! Through better instrumentation and improved singing, as well as experimentation with vocal effects like the echo, this is an experimental record that gets it right! And it pushed the music industry as a whole in a good direction. That being said, Im so tired of all of these songs being the same concept, "she left me!" or "I love her so much", all the songs from these first 3 records have been ... read more

The Beatles - With The Beatles
60

This is an alright follow-up, but is mostly inferior to Please Please Me in every way. Also Little Child is like,, the worst song the Beatles has ever written. Like, why are you singing about a literal child like this why why why why
Please Mr. Postman is a great song tho

The Beatles - Please Please Me
75

For a first go around that was recorded in one(!!) day, this was a great album. At the time this released it was revolutionary, and it ushered in the dominance that would be The Beatles in the 1960s. That being said, there are some weak points on this album, like the fact that its mostly writing about the same topic on every song? Like, a love song is nice but 14 love songs is a liiiittle bit much? This is still iconic though.

Tim Buckley - Happy Sad
50

I am honestly surprised I didn't like this album, cuz I really enjoyed Goodbye and Hello, but this felt like a downgrade to me. I'm not really sure why.. maybe I have to try it again at some point to get my feelings on it down. But I felt bored doing it!

Jeff Buckley - You and I
85

Even without the rich sound Jeff Buckley achieved in the studio for Grace, his sheer talent always shines through; As does his humanity. The casual talk in between songs and even his occasional mess-ups are very endearing, and it helps that Jeff's speaking voice is also incredibly sweet. This album is a great showcase of both his fantastic vocal work, but also his fantastic guitar work! The guitar is the only instrument here, but he is able to create a bigger sound with it, to the point ... read more

Elvis Presley - Elvis Presley
60

Mostly just okay covers, this is definitely not a great start for the King. I honestly don't have much to say but wanted to write a review anyway so umm,,, Blue Suede Shoes is pretty dang good, I Got a Woman is a great Ray Charles song and Elvis does an alright job replicating it, and then the rest is just there.
