Jalen Ngonda - Doctrine of Love
97

Waited some time but 100% worth it.

The overall production shown on here is absolutely priceless. As soon as you put it on it just sounds so warm and I absolutely adore that. As well as how it is mixed especially with the background singers who do an excellent job.

Jalen’s voice on here is so good and I believe is a step up from his debut album. He manages to hold such pure range on his voice it is practically impossible to replicate. As for current soul singers he has to be up there as ... read more

Sum 41 - All Killer No Filler
97

There really is no filler.

Even the songs which aren’t popular still have something to bring to the table. Every song on here deserves its spot. This is some of the best pop punk ever.

‘All Killer No Filler’ is just so energetic that I don’t think you could hate it. There has to be at least one song everyone enjoys. From the hits like ‘Fat Lip’ and ‘In Too Deep’ to songs like ‘Summer’. There’s something for everyone.

The band ... read more

Faye Webster - Underdressed at the Symphony
96

Yes, I think the Yachty feature is good.

‘Underdressed at the Symphony’ is an album where you feel just connected to the singer. The way the instrument’s are mixed and just performed and written as a whole just makes you feel like you are one with the album.

The way I’d describe this album for me when listening is like a forest. It’s like every time you hear it you can unpick something else and something new and that in itself is beautiful.

Apart from that the ... read more

Atari Teenage Riot - Delete Yourself!
91

A very different cool album.

Now I am not afraid to say I have no idea when it comes to ATR and their respective genre. What I can say though is how interesting this album is.

ATR as a whole group are also extremely interesting. Being that the were formed partly due the rise of neo-nazi’s in some of the german techno scene at the time. All aspects of their music also is just not something you always see or hear.

‘Delete Yourself’ is just a reissue of their first album but ... read more

Blood On The Dance Floor - You Done Goofed

Why even waste my time writing about these absolute dickheads.

Go die in a hole or something.

Imagine writing a diss track on an ELEVEN year old and thinking that’s in what way okay? You dickhead

fakemink - Terrified .
75

Terrified is a decent album but doesn’t know what it is.

This album wasn’t ‘bad’ by any means it was just confusing. To me it seems like mink doesn’t know exactly what he wants to make music-wise. Some aspects of this album are a bit more experimental which I like to see but some of these songs fall back into the normal just UK underground sound. Which isn’t bad or unpleasant just a bit jarring if there’s 45 minutes of it.

I love the tracks which are ... read more

halfadedd - still faded
86

halfaded shows promise throughout this EP.

Yes, you can consider him a ‘mink clone’ but at least he isn’t being offensive and he’s built his own fanbase which not many people do.

His voice flows really well on this whole project and it is almost like he was destined to make this type of music.

My only issue is that some of these songs could certainly be more developed in almost every single aspect of it. Like for example a lot of the songs have the same subject ... read more

Afghan Dan - Cheek of Tings
15

Some of the worst music I have ever heard.

I wasn’t expecting much of fucking Afghan Dan but blimey this was awful. The guy who hangs around making diss tracks with year 7’s is not someone to fear I’ll say that much.

The music is just awful. Honestly it just makes him seem like the kid who hung around out school after he got excluded. I don’t know how old Afghan Dan was when he made this but I’m sure he was old enough to not be be genuinely making a song called ... read more

Kano - Rock n Roller
24

I am actually crying WHO thought this was a good idea?

I like the guy and the song on it’s day does actually slap but the autotune? The only thing I can think of is that Kano is just withered Kanye.

But I do dream of a reality where Kano never left this sound and just kept it for a decade and a half.

Overall, it is pretty bad, the lyrics are bad and Kano just doesn’t fit this but it does gain points for comedic effect.

Operation Ivy - Operation Ivy
87

The importance of these songs will never be overstated.

In a time where punk was really dying this was quite literally the light at the end of the tunnel.

I really like these songs and think that Op Ivy could have been so much more. If they kept going who knows what music they would have produced.

All 20-odd songs are all quite fast paced but songs like ‘Sound System’ are a bit slower and bit more ska focused.

A lot of the songs just show good songwriting prose and overall just ... read more

mgk - blog era boyz

This has to be some sort of musical terrorism.

This entire ‘thing’ if you can even call it a thing is just awful

There is absolutely ZERO musical direction on this project whatsoever and overall is just a disney channel level of rapping.

I’m not hopping on the mgk hate train I’ve never felt much about the fella but honestly I couldn’t even finish this.

I don’t know if it was the whole waiting for freaky girls at the ripe age of 36 which really sold it ... read more

SAULT - Earth
90

Earth is a beautiful beautiful album.

Straight from the get go there is a really calming intro to set the scene for the rest of the album. The instrumentation range shown on here is insane, the sheer amount of different sounds heard throughout is amazing.

Another thing I adore about this album is the way you can just hear the layers of music piling up on eachother, it provides a lovely listening experience for anyone.

I believe that anyone from anywhere can sit down and truly admire this ... read more

Bill Withers - Just As I Am
89

Just As I Am is a masterpiece.

A very easy-going soul album. It is an album where anyone can listen and enjoy. Not many albums can hit the same listening to in the background as it does listening to it with your full focus.

I loved Bills cover of ‘Let It Be’ his voice fits it really well and does do it justice.

My only complaint is the length. I feel like a lot more of the songs could’ve been more developed, this really is the only thing stopping it from being a perfect ... read more

Ice-T - O.G. Original Gangster
96

O.G is exactly the template of what an album should be.

The amount of range is on here is unheard of. From hiphop songs about women, to songs about gang violence to songs about fame to an a capella to a metal song. No other album can have this much range.

For an album with 25 songs it doesn’t drag whatsoever, Ice T flows amazingly on all these tracks and shows off his immaculate writing skills. Every song I could write a paragraph about as they all contain serious amounts of depth and ... read more

Joy Division - Closer
43

I didn’t really enjoy this at all.

I am not going to be disrespectful I can see a lot of people enjoy this so I will be as respectful as possible.

I didn’t find anything about this album to be noteworthy. Every song kinda sounded the same and I was just waiting for it to be over. I didn’t like the vocals whatsoever and in my opinion it was quite dreary.

This looks to be such an important album so I will definitely have to give it a couple more listens but as of now I really ... read more

Oasis - Definitely Maybe
100

Definitely Maybe is one of the most influential albums in my life so far.

From when I was a baby my mum constantly had this album on and so it is likely why it is still one of my most favourite albums I have ever heard.

This album was revolutionary for the entirety of brit-pop. Every song on here deserves its flowers and I genuinely believe there will never be a debut album which comes anywhere near this.

The album starts with Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, an iconic song. From the opening ... read more

79

Skylarking is an odd 80’s physchedelic pop album.

The whole mission this album was trying to get across wasn’t very clear whatsoever but maybe that’s the beauty of Skylarking?

The vocal performances on here are all very odd but that can go for the whole album. It all sounds very eerie and that is one of its strong points for me, very few albums I have listened to have given me a sense of eeriness before.

I also like the variety between the songs here meaning that each song ... read more

David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name
78

This was somewhat enjoyable.

I liked this album a decent amount but it wasn’t anything life-changing for me. David Crosby is obviously a very talented musician and proved that throughout the album but I don’t think he knows what this album actually is.

It felt like the album had no actual goal in mind whatsoever so it kind of just went with the flow. Which in some cases works somewhat well but it didn’t work amazingly here. Individually the songs are good but listening to it ... read more

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Damn the Torpedoes
92

I really liked this.

‘Damn The Torpedos’ is what you want to make when you decide to create a rock and roll record. Nearly everything on this album is done perfectly.

Tom Petty I can admit it took me a couple minutes to get used to his voice but oh wow he could certainly sing. I especially adore his performance on the closing track ‘Louisiana Rain’ which is more emotional compared to the other songs.

I also loved songs such as ‘You Tell Me’ for it’s ... read more

R.E.M. - Murmur
87

I haven’t heard much of anything from this band but safe to say I wasn’t disappointed whatsoever.

I am by no means an expert on R.E.M or their ‘Folk Rock’ sub-genre but I did enjoy this quite a bit. ‘Murmur’ contains some catchy songs as well as an easy listening album.

What I like most about it is that no matter what your surroundings are you can enjoy this album fully, whether you’re sat down, cleaning, driving you can fully experience and take it ... read more
