Don Toliver - HARDSTONE PSYCHO

Great Value Travis Scott

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Revisited

This album is a fantastic example of why Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time. Also, his casual and melancholy delivery works so damn well with the content matter. There's no way to properly explain the experience of a Bob Dylan song. Would very highly recommend.

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

Damn...

I've just started going through all of Fantano's 10s to rank them all IMO. I decided to start with this because it is his oldest 10 so far. To be honest, I wanted to disagree and give it a lower rating. However, I can't. This is perfect in every way.

Would very highly recommend.

RiTchie - Triple Digits [112]

Odd…

Not entirely sure how to feel about this album. I’m not in love with the production all the time but it usually hits the mark. This is one I’ll have to listen to a few more times and see if it grows.

English Teacher - This Could Be Texas

Pretty good for a debut

This album isn’t anything innovative but it is still a good listen. English Teacher has a lot of potential here but we’ll have to see if they pursue anything more ambitious or if they get comfortable making “safe” albums.

Charli xcx - BRAT

My first Charli xcx album…

This was a hell of an introduction to her music. The choice to do a self reflecting album with heavy dance/club production is a very interesting choice. I also love the shit talking she does on this album. I feel like I’m able to gain understanding of her and be able to feel the emotions from her perspective. Very hard to explain but this album was a really cool experience that has serious potential to grow on me.

Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown

This album ticks most of the boxes. The only thing that I can critique is that it isn’t always super easy to stay engaged and interested in. Still would highly recommend

Joey Valence & Brae - NO HANDS

The most fun I’ve had with any album this year. Stellar production and energy. Would highly recommend

Sam Cooke - Ain't That Good News

Sam Cooke’s voice releases so much serotonin in my brain

Eminem - Houdini

A pretty fun track. Not the most impressive showing but it’s enjoyable.

Bon Iver - 22, A Million

This album does something to my brain like none other.

Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher

This album made me feel things

Childish Gambino - Atavista

He’s back

After a 4 year absence from music Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) remasters 3.15.20 and adds more to it to make it feel more complete. This is a very fun and energetic project and I can appreciate that about it. It’s a little chaotic but that usually just adds to the energy of it. My biggest issue is inconsistency with features. I think Ariana is the only feature of large value here.

Overall, I like this project but I think it could have gone without most of the ... read more

Future - WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU

+25 for Metro

Honestly, this thing is extremely boring and when something stands out it’s usually not for a good reason. Metro did what he could.

St. Vincent - All Born Screaming

All over the place…

This album is super interesting and meshes genres in a cool way. However, there is a bit of whiplash from track to track at times. The messiness adds to the feeling at times but can be a disconnect at other times.

Overall, this thing is a mixed bag. While it’s pretty consistent in quality it isn’t consistent with the sound. Still a great album though. Would recommend

Denzel Curry - TA13OO

He doesn’t miss

This is my personal favorite Denzel Curry album. If you disagree, that is completely understandable. He doesn’t have a bad project and doesn’t have many bad songs if any. My only critique is that the production, while it is usually amazing, can be slightly one dimensional on tracks like SIRENS. However that track does have some of the best verses so it’s still a near perfect song.

Overall, I think this is one of the most engaging and entertaining albums ... read more

Vince Staples - Dark Times

Wowza

This is my first full listen of any Vince Staples album. The dark and ethereal feeling through the production is stunning. Not to say that the production is flawless but it’s pretty consistently good-great. Vince doesn’t give one bad or mediocre performance. There’s a lot to love here. This is definitely the best rap album so far this year.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Will give this many more listens and will update this review if anything ... read more

twenty one pilots - Clancy

A bit of a mess…

After a few listens, this album has grown on me. The first listen through I just felt confused by the end because of the constant sound changes. However, I’m starting to see the beauty in that at times. I don’t think that this is their “masterpiece” like a lot of us were hoping for, but it still is a good album with a lot of cool ideas. This album also kind of brings back the sounds of Blurryface and improves those. Not that I think it was ... read more

Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism

Lifeless mall outlet background music. Still not the worst listen just not an interesting one.

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us

I just have to say it… this thing is at times carried by flawless production. Not putting down the vocal performances or writing but those things aren’t always quite on par with the production and it is noticeable at times. Still great though.
