twenty one pilots - Next Semester
68

Not what I was expecting. Not a bad direction just not the best executed in my opinion.

Camila Cabello - I LUV IT
29

I actually don't find the Camila Cabello part as bad as most (not meaning I think its good). However, that Carti part is so uninteresting.

Ariana Grande - yes, and?
50

Sounds somewhat lifeless to me. Good production though. Just not good enough to carry the lazy writing and underwhelming vocals.

twenty one pilots - Overcompensate
89

Great opener for the upcoming album, "Clancy". Brings us back to a lot of the sounds of their 2018 album "Trench" while being different enough to keep it interesting. Phenomenal production is what carries this for me personally. Not to say what Tyler Joseph adds to this is bad, just not quite on par with everything around it.

Tom MacDonald - FACTS
1

It's not the worst thing I could listen to. It's insanely close though.

Nicki Minaj - Big Foot
0

I thought this was just getting unnecessary hate at first. Now I think a user score of 2 is a little too high.

Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS
75

An improvement from “SOUR”

On “GUTS” Olivia shows her music is moving forward. However, there are moments that make me cringe the same way SOUR does and they almost bother me more because what she’s capable of can clearly be seen now. She manages to shoot herself in the foot by showing maturity through her vocals and lyrics at times but then it will go right back to something a 14 year old girl would be able to write less childish. It would be charming unless you ... read more

Paramore - This Is Why
78

First Paramore album I’ve listened to

While it is a really good project, there is a major disconnect for me because it sounds somewhat lifeless at times. Not usually for long but a repetitive chorus here and there. I think the ability is there but the energy is not. I would like to say I did quite heavily enjoy the opening track “This is Why”. The only issue is it then makes every following song disappointing. The only one that was able to match that quality was the last ... read more

Beyoncé - COWBOY CARTER
74

Better than expected

There really isn’t a whole of lot to say about this. I expected an hour of laughing my ass off but she actually took it pretty serious and even “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM”, which I wasn’t a fan of, worked better for me in the context of the album. I don’t feel like any of the features really do too much for me. None are really bad but none really add to much to the quality. I do think it’s a bit too long and is a little boring at times, ... read more

JID - The Forever Story
96

On JID’s first two LPs “The Never Story” and “DiCaprio 2” he showed he had some potential to make some solid tracks. What this album does was not expected. 16 tracks without a single skip. Insane. On a song like “Raydar” he shows off his lyricism as well as flows. On the forth track “Crack Sandwich” he give you a story about him and his family so well that it feels like a short film. He tackles the dangers of fame and money on the song ... read more

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
88

Just wanted to start this review by saying that this is one of my favorite album covers of any 2020's release.

Anyways, I had heard a lot of good things about this album before listening to it so my expectations were quite high. I feel like it definitely met those expectations. Not to say there aren't things to nitpick here. The first half of the intro track, "Welcome To My Island" is quite corny which is a slight disconnect but it pulled me back in in the second half. The second ... read more

Yard Act - Where's My Utopia?
76

ANTI-CAPITALISM

This entire track list is full of punk bangers with great delivery. The lyrics are good, but not great. I enjoy that the sound is constantly evolving throughout the album to keep it entertaining. "Dream Job" is the only track I don't get. I find it annoying at times and that's enough to make it a disconnect for me. I think "We Make Hits" is the standout here due to the crazy amounts of energy behind it. I think this LP is far from perfect but it was one of ... read more

Everything Everything - Mountainhead
80

Pretty enjoyable art pop

I didn’t have very high expectations for this project but it easily exceeded them. This album is able scratch a similar itch that “An Awesome Wave” by Alt-J does. The lyrics throughout aren’t anything special but they aren’t bad by any means. The production is really what makes this album so good. Each song feels fresh but still cohesive as a full project.

As far as standout tracks go, this is a weird one. Each song does something unique ... read more

Kacey Musgraves - Deeper Well
63

Not bad for mainstream folk but a fairly uninteresting listening experience

I just want to start off by saying that I do enjoy the vocals and the mixing/layering. Outside of that… there’s issues. The lyrics are supposed to be pretty sad at times but because of how fine tuned the vocals are and how surface level the writing is at times makes it feel disingenuous. Not to a point of making it unenjoyable but making a bit of a disconnect for me. The sound also doesn’t really ... read more

Adrianne Lenker - Bright Future
95

Depression…

This album just rips out your heart from the very beginning. The deep depressive emotion she is able to convey through the raw, shaky vocals is unmatched. While at the same time the whole thing has a sitting by a warm campfire at night feel (very similar to Fleet Foxes). It’s comforting yet gut wrenching. I think there are some flaws within the 43 minutes but they’re barely noticeable and very well made up for with some unbelievably good highs. The only thing I ... read more

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU
61

Blown out sub in a Honda Civic music.

Starting off, the first two songs have some good verses and flows but that all slowly falls off. From track 3 through 8 Future doesn’t have a single interesting verse. Track 6, “Like That”, has some value though as Kendrick delivers a competitive verse. Calling out Drake as well as J. Cole. I’m not going to say this is a perfect verse but it brings some energy back to the album. However, nothing can stay good for too long on this LP ... read more

Kim Gordon - The Collective
59

I like most of the production and mixing but the writing is pretty damn bad. The lyrics get played off as "deadpan" but that doesn't make up for the fact that it's unenjoyable. Maybe I'm just missing something. Idk. Overall, not a bad project just has very obvious and unavoidable flaws.

Edit: 50 -> 59 Still is not my favorite but the end of the album is pretty good

Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.

I understand what everyone was talking about. This is an insanely impressive reinvention.

Best: drive ME crazy!

Worst: pRETTy

Boldy James & Nicholas Craven - Penalty of Leadership
74

Good but feels like there's a bit of untapped potential there

Best: Formal Invite

Worst: Straight As

Brittany Howard - What Now
82

Has serious potential to grow on me.

Best: Prove It To You

Worst To Be Still
