I have been really interested in checking out more of the works of Beardfish. So far I have been pretty impressed with their work, especially with the two part concept album ‘Sleeping In Traffic’. I wanted to give another one of their albums a spin, but I did not know which one. That is until I looked at this album’s cover a bit closer. A mammoth covered in bloody snow with blue, fish-like silhouettes near its eyes, with dirty husks and crackly fur. It looks strange and ... read more
The 70s era of Psych rock is an odd ball of a time for the genre. This was after its huge boom in the 60s that was revolutionized by The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, but was before its later rise in popularity in the modern age with neo psych rock bands like King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. It was in a weird middle ground where it was filled with more experimentation on what could be done with the genre which resulted in a ton of hits and misses from a variety of ... read more
So funny story on why I am reviewing this album. I accidentally rated this album, and since you cannot remove reviews, I decided to take it as an opportunity to review this album. I have made a previous review on this album on a Discord server before, but it kinda blows so I decided to make a new one. Anyways, about Mike Oldfield. I really think he is one of Prog’s best musicians, not THE best but definitely up there with some of the greats. His work blows me away with the fact that his ... read more
I don’t have much to say at the start for this review so let’s just jump right into it.
This album starts with Vertigo. It starts off with this noisy and static sounding build up until it transitions into a more rhythmic electronic beat that is very pleasant to the ears, with a nice baseline and everything. It feels very atmospheric and free form, filled with a very nice structure. However I do feel like what it’s worth does overstay its welcome, and this song is 4 minutes ... read more
I am a really big fan of Marillion, and many Neo-Prog stuff as a whole. I don’t know, something just clicks with me whenever I listen to an album that has a certain style and aura around it, especially when it is in the realm of neo Prog. I love how dramatic, emotional, poetic, and how theatrically grand it can really get. So with my love for the genre, I decided to check out one of the main contributors to the whole movement that came about in the early 80s, and that’d be ... read more
There are some albums that I like to consider as masterpieces in their own league, whether that be based on artistic intent, beauty, or its own charm that bands seem to not dabble as much in. This album is sort of the ladder in this retrospect. I really love Big Big Train a ton. I love their more English and sorta rustic approach to Progressive rock. They have this sorta feeling within them that makes them stand out among the crowd of bands trying to recapture what made Prog in the 70s so ... read more
To be honest I do not really know how to make an introduction for this album, so why not just jump into it, shall we?
The album starts with We’re Off You Know. Rather jazzy and pop sounding with a little hint of psychedelism. I say this is a good starter for this album. It adds a little quirky aspect to their sound that I really like. Feels like something from the mid 60s. Super fun start.
Next is Madman, which is more like a 180 from the first track. Pretty spooky, electronic, and ... read more
I think it is rather silly of me to try and introduce this band, cause most if not all people know them. Queen is one of the biggest bands in rock history, next to the likes of Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Nirvana, AC/DC, and Guns N’ Roses. They’ve released countless songs and made booming sales charts for each year they had released a new album. However, I sadly have barely heard any of their albums. Songs are a different story, I know Bohemian Rhapsody like the back of my hand, same ... read more
Post rock is definitely a genre of music I have been quite familiar with ever since I started getting really into music. One day I was listening to Jamiroquai and Prince, and then bam, I was listening to some very heavy tracks that sounded like they came from a nightmare. It was honestly weird and crazy to me then but now, I really dig it. Some interesting stuff to be found with these albums, and the fan recognition is well deserved. Even when it is fairly niche, it adds and inspires so much to ... read more
The second part of a two part concept album, Sleeping In Traffic. After listening to the first part, I was absolutely hooked on what Beardfish could do and was by all means, very impressed. I wondered then what this second part would be since the first part ended on somewhat of a cliff hanger and I was very intrigued to see how this band can pull off another section of the life of a depressed man, with the added fact of the gloomy album cover, and the fact this may be taking place at night, I ... read more
There are a lot of bands in the modern progressive rock world that carry the torch that bands like Yes or Gentle Giant carried several years ago. These bands take that torch and throw it into the goblet of the modern age, celebrating the style from yesteryear while also shaping it into their own limelight that embodies what Prog rock is all about, moving forward while celebrating what came before. Bands like The Flower Kings and Big Big Train are some of my favorites of this style of Prog with ... read more
So after a break, I am feeling rejuvenated to review again. So, Thank You Scientist, this is a band I never actually heard before listening to this album, but the name did Interest me, plus the album cover looked really cool, so I was very interested from the start. So I decided to listen to it and see what this cool new album was all about. After all, with an album cover like that, you kinda have to see what the album is all about.
That album starts with a prelude. Nothing too crazy, but the ... read more
Alright, so how about one more album requested to be reviewed. American Graffiti by Strawberry Girls, an interesting release from the instrumental Math rock group. This is their second studio album after their 2013 album, French Ghetto. This is actually the first time I have ever heard of this band, but they sounded neat, so I decided to give them a shot. I wondered a bit what their sound could've been like. Would they be more psychedelic and spacey, or something entirely different. Well I came ... read more
So it is that time again where I review an album, another requested review too, so I am a bit excited to hear some different stuff, and currently I am writing this before I have even heard the album, so this is gonna be a sort of new review style where I review the album, as I go along. So with that here is my review of the electronic artist Excision’s album Virus, released in 2016. The cover looks pretty cool, so I bet we’ll get something interesting. So let’s go.
So the ... read more
So Magma, one of Prog’s most daring bands ever with their use of more classical sort of sounding rock music with that weird and powerful sound and performance that really gives them this whole new identity separate from what one might expect. They are definitely one of my favorite bands of all time next to stuff like Genesis, King Crimson, The Flower Kings, and or Haken.
Magma made some incredible albums, like their main staple Mekanik Destructiw Kommandoh, and other works like Udu ... read more
Tally Hall is one of those bands that I feel a bit of nostalgia for. They were one of those bands that I seem to know very well yet never really listened to their albums until now. I was recommended to check this album out and I thought that it’d be very interesting to check out.
I consider Tally Hall a sort of indie progressive rock band, but like maybe more of a crossover Prog where they are fairly poppy in sound and structure but they have some more progressive stuff, like for ... read more
So a review for a band that I’ve been checking out quite a bit. So, Big Big Train, one of modern prog’s more staple bands with their unique blending of a more English and old British sound with a more neo-Prog or symphonic Prog sound. I’ve been loving their music for quite a bit so far, and I’ve heard albums like English Electric and Gathering Speed, which were really great Prog albums in of themselves, but I was curious to see what their first was. The album that ... read more
Welp another review of a recommendation. I was recommended to check out this album. This’ll be a bit of a short review since I don't feel like reviewing this fairly long album on a track by track basis.
So this is a really cool Rap album. I was honestly stunned with how good it really was. Mos Def is really talented with how he rhymes and flows around the album and the songs, and he has a certain quality in his voice that makes it sound incredible sounding, and mixed with the production ... read more
After their second album, Midnight Mushrumps, Gryphon had improved their sound dramatically from their lackluster first album, and they were very much, and clearly ready to take off their safety goggles and floaties, and dive deep into a more lush progressive sound with their third album, Red Queen To Gryphon Three.
This album is a lot more sophisticated than the last 2, having no vocals, and instead utilizes structural compositions to give the feeling of a game. This album doesn’t just ... read more

I was not too fond of Gryphon’s first album. I thought it was dull and boring. However I definitely saw they had room to grow. Like mushrooms from the spores, they sure as hell did in a surprisingly good fashion. With this album I feel like they created a sort of middle ground with their medieval folk music and progressive rock, to create this very classy sort of music with very interesting introspectives.
The first track here is their 18+ minute ... read more
