Maruja - Pain to Power

This album takes you on a journey! The way it builds, swells, and releases is gorgeous! One thing I love about Maruja is how every harmonizes, but slowly breaks down as the song continues (I don’t know if that makes sense) the production is fantastic and some of the best I’ve heard this year. That saxophone feels like it’s speaking to me! All of the instrumentals are incredibly unique and beautifully done. My biggest complaint is the vocals, some times his accent gets on my ... read more

Their best album since Trench and one of the best albums of the year. They are just a genuinely creative and fun band. The first few tracks on this blew me away, and while the rest isn’t up to that level, it’s still great.

Lorna Shore - I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me

A banger album cover. This is the weakest Will Lorna Shore project, but still good. It kinda just feels like they are doing what worked for them so well in the past, but slightly worse in every way. The production isn’t really all that terrible, but in a year either so many fantastically produced albums from PSYCHO-FRAME, SOI, or Whitechapel, it does feel pretty weak. The drums are mixed way too loud and the guitars way too quiet. The breakdowns go pretty hard and while they are the ... read more

Whitechapel - This Is Exile

I have no idea how it took me this long to appreciate Whitechapel. I’ve heard them a ton before, but they never really struck me as amazing, just good. I was so wrong and I am currently repents for my past sins because this is phenomenal deathcore. Phil Bozeman is one of the greatest vocalists ever, period. The songs slap, the production is perfect, and the vibe is just immaculate

Suicide Silence - The Black Crown

The weakest of the Mitch Luker albums, but this being the weakest shows how great early Suicide Silence was. It feels a little more polished and more influenced by other popular metal genres at the time. This could be a good thing for people, but I prefer the brutal straight deathcore. Overall a very good album though! You Only Live Once is such a boner jam and unbelievably iconic.
