Not the biggest Black Metal fan, but I can appreciate a good black metal record. This is a pretty decent one. Nothing special though that makes this record deserve more than a 70.
I loved Demon Hunter as a teenager and still love the older albums. I was excited to see a new album from them, but this seemed to fall really flat for me. Because of their legacy, I will try to give it another listen, but I don't see the rating changing, there is too much other music to listen to.
I am not the biggest pop fan, but I can appreciate a good pop song/album when they come by. In a week that was dominated by Taylor Swift's "Midnight," this one unfortunately was probably not given as much attention as it deserves. I ended up listening to both on the same day and found myself coming back to this record. I have spun this quite a few times since the release. It really is a well-deserved #1 release of the week for me and will probably land somewhere in my AOTY ranking.
It gets a 5-point boost for being Silverstein. In my most recent listen, I am reminded why this is Shane's and most fans' least favorite album.
The fact that he covered Periphery's Race Car was all I needed for this album. It is a little long but has a lot of cool elements. Again, the fact that my all-time favorite band was covered in a genre that I have equally been as obsessed with over the years made this a happy listen.
It sounds like Avril doing Avril things. I appreciate her, but I am not going to go back to this album for a while. It just didn't have the oomph some of the Travis Barker pop-punk produced albums do. No I do not mean MGK. If you want good female-fronted pop-punk just go listen to Stand Atlantic.
This ended up being better than I expected and I already had high expectations for this album.
Update 2022/12/09: Listed to it again as part of the AOTY list exercise. It is still a pretty damn solid record. However, it doesn't hold up to the 90 that it once held. If I am looking for chaotic heaviness, then this is up there as an option. However, I have the new Kublai Khan TX EP an 85 and I don't think either one is better than the other so adjusting to 85 for consistency. Also, most of the ... read more
This album is really growing on me and has been my most played releases of 2.25 so far behind the Bad Omen's DOPOM.
INK is one of my favorite bands and this was an absolute banger of an album from front to back. There was only two tracks that got lower than a 9/10. I gave it a good 50+ listens in the first month of its release and found that each track grew on me in a different way. It was my AOTY pick not only from a bias but also it was truly just a great release and deserved the positive reviews it got.
I absolutely love this album. It has been over a month since it came out and I am definitely keeping this at the top of my for AOTY contenders!
It was a palette cleanser from rock albums that came out on 2.25. The first few tracks were nice, but it got really repetitive and boring later and almost had to turn off. Probably will not come back to this again.
I enjoyed this. However, my one critique of this album is that it sounded more like a Indie Pop band that was influenced by Tears for Fears rather than Tears for Fears. The deeper tracks did have that more iconic Tears for Fears sound though.
It is an album that I keep coming back to. I can see it being an album I am discussing as AOTY towards the end of the year.
The album isn't as strong as I felt it was before as initial hype and time has allowed for a more critical evaluation. However, I still think this is a genre defining album for "The Scene." Bad Omens tends to abandon most of their core elements. You can still here it some in songs like Artificial Suicide. They definitely embrace influences of The Weekend and more modern Pop/R&B acts. I do refuse to use the term Baddiecore (SP?), I think that is just a dumb tag for sexy ... read more
