The Pain Remains I-III is why this gets an 80 rating. Otherwise, I really didn't seem to enjoy this record as much as everyone else does. Will's vocals are always impressive, but sometimes it got to be lost in the mix. Deathcore is turning into the Metal version of Dubstep. The same way that Dubstep in the 2010s turned into a bass drop competition, it seems that Deathcore has turned into a breakdown competition. It gets a little tiring at times. It is why I enjoyed the final 3 tracks, they ... read more
Dayseeker really is growing into their own. The range on this album is great and I think they are gaining more fans because of it. The first 10 or so play throughs, I would end up crying by the end of the album. The transition between Midnight Eternal/Dark Sun and Parallel/Afterglow are two of the top transitions in any album all year. I think What It Cost?/Like A Villain is the only other true contender.
Favorite song is Afterglow with Dreamstate being a close second. Dreamstate is the most ... read more
This is a really solid record and one of the best of the Sawncore genre this year. Disregarding the controversy of DGD, this is what I wish the DGD record would have sounded like. Kurt Travis' vocals shine on this record. The instrumentation has sone really nice grooves to them. Honestly, it is floating between an 80-85, which is why it has a solid spot in the Top 50 records of the year.
I get why a lot of people wouldn't like this album. MIW is not a metal/metalcore snobs band. They are very much a scene band from the beginning and then evolved into a more alternative metal band with metalcore roots. However, Chris' voice is showcased very well on this record. The hooks and the songs are well laid out. It shows that there was a lot of thought put into this record. I thought this might lose its prestige overtime, but this seems to still stick with me like it did when I first ... read more
I remember listening to this the week it came out and I know a lot of people really liked this record. For me, the Enterprise Earth record overshadowed this one. However, going back and giving it a new listen, I definitely think this is a much better album than what I remember. I really enjoyed the opening track, but I also enjoyed most of this record. The fact that their guitar tone is lower and sludgy made it enjoyable. I also enjoyed the intricate rhythms that are used at certain points. It ... read more
This is definitely up there in the top 3 pop punk releases of the year. Such a good record, front to back. Highlights are definitely Circles, Leaving Forever, Lights Out, and Caving In. These guys deserve to be huge!
Pretty solid Metalcore record. It isn't as great as some have said, but there wasn't a track that was bad. There were a couple of things on the production side that I could take or leave, but still a solid record. Won't be making the upper 50 of the AOTY list though.
I enjoyed this record, However, I still need to give it more time if I am going to increase the rating some. I also want to dig into HWM more and will be doing a discography listen-through at some point in 2023.
Pleasant listen. Beautiful soundscapes and layers. Not much more to say besides that.
Wow! I didn't think I would enjoy this record as much as I did. It is just a damn good rock album. It has originality to it, which is really hard in this genre to not sound stale and butt rocky. Valhalla is up there on favorite songs off the record. Spirits snuck up into my top 25 outta no where! It has a lot of repeatability and honestly almost every track could end up on my Bangers playlist.
I think this was a huge improvement from their last album. I enjoyed almost every song on here, but the first two tracks are clearly the best tracks. I love how they advertised the album as well. I think this is one of those that a lot of people just didn't understand enough to truly get the beauty that is this record.
I love Art Pop which has such an ethereal soundscape. Perfume Genius captures some of the vibes that I go to Sigur Ros for. I still need to give it a listen on my main sound system but have given it a listen on my headphones a few times to enjoy it thoroughly.
The first time I listened to this album, I didn't enjoy it as much. However, giving it a follow-up listen, I enjoyed this a lot more. I think Tyrants, Complete Collapse, Family Tree, Let You Down, and Bloody Knuckles are the best tracks. I will spin this a few times more when I am feeling some Kellin vocals.
A couple of things were positive about this album and a couple of things were negative to bring it down to the 70 range. First off, this was an enjoyable listen, it really reminded me of the 60s/70s fold rock. The pitfall for it though to not getting it a higher rate was the length and the times it got a little repetitive. If they would have made the album 45 minutes, it wouldn't have felt as repetitive.
Very solid debut record for ENOX. The first time I heard this back in January, I was whelmed, but going back and reviewing this a second time, I was able to enjoy it a lot more. I think being released on “Deathcore Day” really overshadowed this. Will make sure to follow their other releases.
When this album first dropped, it got a couple of spins and then fell off. Recently, saw a post about this and decided to give it another spin. Man, I slept on this album. It is just a solid metalcore record. It is going to get a few more spins because it is ear candy.
If Mr. Morale got a 90, then this is a 95. I haven't vibed with a record like this since Kendrick's To Pimp a Butterfly and also Cole's Forest Hills Drive. I wish I would have gotten into this much sooner, I would have tried to see his show in person.
