yeah whatever its another convoluted mess that sounds like a reject off THINK LATER
I recognised some patterns throughout listening to this album. Its formulaic, but interesting, with maybe purposefully strange production choices at time. I do have my positives and negatives about the album so let me start with the negatives. I think there are just some strange production choices throughout the album. This feels like a stripped down version of SOPHIE self titled with the production feeling empty at times or just incredibly repetitive with nothing interesting to keep me engaged ... read more
JADE'S debut album is bold. Its filled to the brim with disco pop influenced tracks sprinkled with some experimental goodness and eprosnality in there to make it a defining statement as a solo artist. After breaking off from Little Mix, JADE really got the publicist attention with Angek of my dreams, a song that is really liked for its fluctuation in production and this roller coaster ride it takes you on. The song sets a tone throughout the whole album, JADE isn't her to mess around ... read more
Gorillaz new song is electric goody, fun and beautiful. It feels like a return to form after a long time. Welcome back to the world of the plastic beach🥲
Big Thief is back with another album and its the first that ive heard from them. I have heard of them from their grammy award winning album, Dragon New War I Belive In You, and from the lead singer of their band, Adrianne Lenker. This album makes me feel cast away for a moment in time. The folk pop production is incredibly whimsical and lush and its feels just like a day for prancing around in some Snow White forest collecting wild nuts and fruits. This album may be one of the best indie ... read more
Aespa makes a boring comeback after the energy last year with Whiplash. The EP starts fun and gets you moving with Rich Man. I like the callback to Cher's famous interview, and the production and energy of the song remind me of Von Dutch by Charli xcx, one of my favourite electropop songs of all time. After this song, the whole thing falls apart. Every time I hear an EP from them, it always seems to be built around a singular song with lacklustre tracks that follow behind it. Drift has ... read more
Somehow, tame impala manages to make a worse song than end of summer. Loser has nothing much going for it production wise, same for the lyrics and for Kevin's vocals.
I havent heard Dev Hynes music before. But i definitely wasn't expecting this. Blood Orangr manages to seduce the listen with this incredible and abstract sounds cape which i have never heard in any music before. It is so incredibly unique and beautiful and some incredible alt-pop. The album starts off incredibly string, with the songs that start from Thinking Clean to Countryside being main highlights, with Mind Loaded being my favourite song. Dev Hynes free flow piano playing style ... read more
Hayley Williams is back, and I am so grateful. This alt rock, indie rock album is reminiscent of Paramore's after laughter with the structures of the songs and the production behind it. I'll just continue this tmr
Sabrina... is still where she was with Short and Sweet, a handful of inoffensive pop songs that blend well together but lack individuality and good lyrics. This feels like perhaps an antithesis to short and sweet, because short and sweet was more of an album where its problem was the emptiness in production, now Man's best friend just feels like theres too much going on. The album is littered with boring, Dolly Parton impersonating songs that tie themselves together with corny lyricism ... read more
Phoebe Bridger's Waiting Room manages to invoke a sense of dread of the future that none of us know how to replicate, but somehow knows how it feels like
I enjoyed this! It was a calming listen, until it wasn't which isn't a bad thing. The album starts out pretty tame, the opening track isn't very special but I think Lovers Girl and Snow White are definitely highlights of the album. The string arrangements are extremely gorgeous and do well to compliment her vocals on the song! I enjoy the more mature sounds cape that the songs give in contrast to some other songs on the album like carousel. Although it doesn't have the same ... read more
Yves is such a breath of fresh air in the Kpop world. White Cat is really electropoop perfection, one of the best sings this year. The song with pinkpanthress, amazing, I really enjoy the Rebecca Black sample. I really like Yves venturing into more experimental parts of pop music, incorporating different genres together to create this amazing experience. About is a cute song too, i feel these 3 are incredibly substantial and hold their weight. The last three songs have sormthing interesting ... read more
Ethel Cain is slowing down the pace. On this ten track album, she brings the second part to the story she wants to tell, this time about her character's boyfriend Willoughby. The album starts off with a song about Janie, the characters best friend, a great slow core, indie rock vibe. Its this beautiful dream pop, ethereal wave song that is a nice warm up from the more guitar heavy sings that follow it. Nettles is a perfect song. Americana delight. Her vocals are amazing, and the production ... read more
Chappell Roan once again proves her talent by effortlessly writing a perfect pop ballad. The song starts of with this Heaven or Las Vegas-esque intro with the opening verse melody being this perfect combination of notes and emotion from her voice that can create this sort of line you can connect to. I always enjoy Chappell's hyperspecific, unique lyrics, and her vocals are off the charts on this song. Wonderful to listen to
