Ana Roxanne returns with a new sound to fill the Low-shaped hole in my heart. I enjoy all of her work, but this new record stands in a class of its own. Hymnal and ghostly minimalism that recalls the quietest moments of Mark Hollis's self-titled.
Another solid helping from stoner psych stalwarts Elder. Doesn't quite compete with their absurdly kickass 2010s run, nor does it contain a highpoint as pronounced as "Merged in Dreams - Ne Plus Ultra" off of their last record, but I reckon it's still got that one beat in terms of overall consistency. I like Elder. I wanted an album that sounds like Elder. This album sure sounds a lot like Elder. I like this album. Not much else to it really.
I’ve long considered ‘Era Vulgaris’ to be my least favorite Queens of the Stone Age album, how wrong I was. This was all just a little too horned-up and weird for me to fully jive with as a youngster. Something about the vibe was incomprehensible to a pre-first-bout-of-blackout-drunkenness Devin. These days? Feels as homey as a battered old pair of sweatpants with concerning stains. Josh Homme’s sunburnt chords and herky-jerky grooves have never sounded so gnarled and ... read more
Continues to age well year after year, remains a standard-bearer for modern commercial pop music. The four-track run from "All That" to "Your Type" is basically as good as it gets, with "Boy Problems" in particular being a highlight. Carly's sound on this album flirts ever so subtly with the aesthetics of 80s synthpop (peep those slapped bass pops that show up from time to time) while staying firmly rooted in the crisp, optimistic pop sounds of the mid-2010s. ... read more
If they kept up the momentum from those first five songs, this'd be a perfect pop record. Exceptional musicianship.
It's a testament to Prince's songwriting abilities and stylistic diversity that this absurd, 36-track, 3-hour triple CD isn't even *that* much of a slog to get through. Although it took me multiple sittings, and the second disc does have a tendency to dip into the tepid waters of flavorless 90s adult contemporary, there's still a wealth of strong material on 'Emancipation'. If you were to pare this sprawl down into a humble double album (personally, I'd take ... read more
“Omegaman” is incredible. Might be my favorite track from The Police, second only to “So Lonely”.
Yea idk why this dude just locked the fucked in for album number seventeen. The music here is eclectic and restless like on many of Prince's strongest '80s albums, and he's also worked out many of the kinks that have plagued his releases since 1990. For one, his rapping is actually really fun and charismatic here, much less stilted and hackneyed than what he offered on 'Diamonds and Pearls' (an album that I otherwise loved). I'll take "Pussy Control" over ... read more
Getting this AND that amazing hemlocke springs album both in Q1 is a pretty insane start for pop music in 2026. If we must have an indie sleaze revival, this should be the standard.
April is rockin that Post Malone vibrato all over this thing. Really nice collection of pop tunes, its brevity helps the listening experience more than it hampers it. Wildly replayable.
The first proper track here, "yes baby" was a tense, terrific club mover. From there, "angel wings" keeps the momentum up, but very little past that point jumped out at me. Still, the potential is very audible here, and even when the songs are a letdown, 'locket' maintains an admirable stylistic variety.
"Time Traveler" is twice as brutal as anything on the new Converge record.
I cannot believe I had never heard ANY of these songs until my first full-album listen last week. I've been sorely missing out.
Prince has dozens of tracks that are more compositionally engaging than "If I Was Your Girlfriend," but it's an all-timer regardless due to a layered emotional conceit that feels almost unprecedented within his discography. The sheepish chord changes and the desperate pleas of, "Would you let me wash your hair? Could I make you breakfast ... read more

I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to stoner metal, and lemme tell ya, this right here pleases me. Plenty derivative of High On Fire (most good stoner metal is) and not exactly adventurous for the genre, but this meat-n-potatoes riff fest still gets the job done. Wasn't totally sold on the cleanly sung vocal harmonies on "Twelve Seasons", but variety is variety, and when other tracks like "Shamanic Echoes" boast riff passages that are *this* groovy, small ... read more
