Hey, "Style" is a damn fine pop song, one of the better tunes of 2014. The rest of it though... ehhhh...
While there are some questionable instrumental choices, and the Springsteen-heartland rock formula can get slightly boring, it's really the sarcasm and hilarious, stellar lyricism that makes 'Miami Memory' worth a listen. The occasional standout tune doesn't hurt either.
Fav Tunes:
1.) Far From Born Again
2.) End is Nigh
3.) Too Far
"Pain" is a damn fine song. Really gotta appreciate the meticulousness of this record.
A beautiful, fragile little debut album from an artist who would go on to release several of my favorite records of all time. Hope we get a new album from him this year!
Edit: We got it, and it’s amazing.
A really solid singer-songwriter and synth pop release that, while not one of my favorite records of the year, houses many of my absolute favorite songs of the year.
Fav Tunes:
1.) Seventeen
2.) No One’s Easy to Love
3.) Jupiter 4
You know, for a while this was just bad. Then I got to the song with J Balvin. It turned dreadful pretty quickly.
Hey, now this is a pretty decent pop-rock album! Sure there's still plenty of room to grow but this is a big step up from some of the droll 70s rock imitations of his debut, at least in my book. Lotta good tunes on this one, and Harry's got class. Easily the most interesting of the 1D boys (but come on we all knew that already), excited to see what he does next!
Fav Tunes:
1.) She
2.) Fine Line
3.) Sunflower, Vol. 6
The production on this one's a little rough around the edges, but overall this is some of the most rousing, passionate power-pop you'll hear in 2019. The playing is urgent, the vocals are dramatic, and the melodies are huge. One of the most underrated records of the year for sure.
Okay. This kinda really sucks. However. It is delightful.
Call me crazy, but I've got a good feeling about the "dino-dames". They've got spunk to spare!
Hey, White Reaper's back! I loved the last album these guys put out two years ago, and while 'You Deserve Love' isn't as much of a front-to-back shot of pure joy as 'The World's Best American Band' was, it's still a good time. The very authentic replication/modernization of 70s power pop these guys bring to the table is just so relentlessly positive and fun. Bonus points for the endearingly bad album art.
One of Lightning Bolt's most immediately enjoyable and exciting albums. Their first couple records showed a ton of potential, but it was 'Wonderful Rainbow' that established Lightning Bolt as a noise rock duo for the ages. More than on their first two albums, Chippendale and Gibson find that sweet spot of having both crushing heaviness and addicting melodies. They are also able to integrate several cool one-off ideas into these songs like the zany vocal loops on "Dracula Mountain" and ... read more
It seems that "King For A Day" will never not be an ultimate-nostalgia-guilty-pleasure for me. Can't say I'm as attached to the rest of the album, though...
