Huh, this is actually pretty good. Easily Halsey's best album so far, 'Manic' contains her strongest vocal performances, most thoughtful writing, and most varied and tasteful production to date. I'm still not a huge fan of her work or anything, but it's pretty clear that she approached this album with more care and subtlety than ever before (or at least with as much subtlety as one can give to an album with a song called "I HATE EVERYBODY"), and I have to give credit where it's due. ... read more
Meg Remy's last album, 2018's 'In A Poem Unlimited' was an exemplary art pop record that expressed political discontent through sweet psychedelia and distortion. The follow-up 'Heavy Light' may not be as varied or as banger-laden as its predecessor, but it's still a very thoughtful helping of pop soul with numerous gorgeous ballads. Meg doubles down on the 70s aesthetic that surfaced a couple times on 'A Poem', leading to 'Heavy Light' sounding like a woke version of Bowie's 'Young Americans'. ... read more
Really happy that this album is getting folks all excited about metal, and even though I'm not head over heels for it (not yet anyway), I still like it a lot! Code Orange is far and away one of the most creative and dynamic metal bands of the past ten years; their innovative blends of metalcore and glitch reached an apex with the release of their titanic 2017 album 'Forever', and the equally kickass EP that followed, "The Hurt Will Go On". 'Underneath' is essentially another helping ... read more
I am absolutely stoked for this record. Mike is easily my favorite living songwriter, and on "Describe" he continues to explore new sonic territory. This time around he's going for a lo-fi shoegaze-y rock sound and I'm totally here for it. Great track, Mike never misses!
A go-to feel good album that I associate with one of the most joyful summers of my life. It's nearly impossible to not wear the biggest fuckin grin and belt along to every hook while listening to this record. Seriously there are some moments on this album that feel like they were meticulously engineered to nail the pleasure centers of my brain (the guitar solo on "Endless Bummer", virtually all of "California Kids", and DAMN the bridges on these songs! "L.A. ... read more
This was actually really good! Super promising debut album here! Vocals sound kinda like that whole indie "ukulele girl voice" but like done really well and not completely toothless lol. Actually that's underselling it, these folks have teeth to spare! Honestly my biggest complaint is that on the album art, the girl's ankles/socks are way skinnier than the rest of her legs... Beach Bunny is a band to look out for!
Huh. This is actually really nice. I mean if Judas Priest can be unbelievably solid in 2018, who's to say Ozzy can't come through with a winner in 2020? This was genuinely a joy to listen to. Ozzy forever!
Fav Tunes:
1.) Holy For Tonight
2.) Straight to Hell
3.) It's A Raid
I genuinely think "Fly" might be the worst song I've ever heard. I don't wanna listen to the rest of it.
Eugene Robinson complimented my art on instagram and I think that's the peak of my life so far.
Jeez, with every single thing I hear this guy in, he just keeps on ranking higher and higher among my favorite songwriters. The Drones, TFS, everything he touches just turns to gold. Gareth's a truly amazing storyteller, one of the finest in rock at the moment I'd say. For those of you that really dig on his lyrics, this album's an underrated gem that places his writing in a much more stripped back, acoustic setting. It's a far cry from the grimy feedback of a TFS record, but in a lot of ways ... read more
Yeah... Iceage is really one of my favorite bands, probably my favorite rock group of the 2010s. Idk what it is about them, their music isn't like the most unique post-punk you'll ever hear or anything... But damn, everything about what these guys do just scratches a certain itch for me. The rough, brash noise rock of their early work, the orchestral drama of their later work, I just love it all. Great vocals, great lyrics, impressive instrumentation, and really admirable artistic growth over ... read more
When I first listened to this tape on Spotify it was like 11:30 pm, I was super drowsy, and I just wanted to go to bed. By the time I got to Gatti I was in that weird altered state of mind you get into right before you fall asleep where you feel like you're swimming in tar and your tongue tastes all gross. When Spotify switched over to playing the album radio, it played Gatti again. I sat there, half-concious, listening to Pop Smoke saying, "AND I GOTTA BAD BITCH-... ASS UP-... FACE ... read more
I was never much of a fan of this one, but now that we have albums like 'Flower Boy' and 'IGOR', it's safe to say that a great deal of the material on 'Goblin' boils down to annoying, edgy posturing. Sure, it WAS kinda punk. But it was also kinda bad, and it has aged like milk.
Hey Jane is my second favorite song of the decade and this album is magical. God bless J Spaceman.
Fav Tunes:
1.) Hey Jane
2.) So Long You Pretty Thing
3.) Life Is a Problem
Also the music video for Hey Jane is my favorite music video of all time. It isn't even close. Give it a watch.
