when I first heard this, I was like, it's ok but nothing special (probably would've given a 55 or 60). But now that I've gone back to it and listened a few more times, the hook is extremely catchy and the verses go pretty hard. But I have a big problem with how the verses and hook do not vibe together (like at all). For instance, Overnight had a great hook and great verses that complimented each other nicely, This song doesn't. Still love the hook and think the verses would go really good on a ... read more
at the beginning of the album, I was ready to give it a solid 75, but no higher. The start seemed like what the singles teased, nothing introspective, just fun rap with a little bit of speaking on experiences at a surface level. Then at the midpoint of the album, it began to shift, and we got some of the most introspective Tyler so far. Another great album from Tyler.
Tyler is a very consistent artist (literally has been straight 80's from me for the three albums I've listened to and rated). ... read more
it's fun, but sounds too much like it's trying to copy what's popular or was popular (in like 2014). for example, the intro track "Good Day" sounds like a mix between Queen - Don't Stop Me Now and Fun. - All The Pretty Girls. the un-uniqueness of the sound makes it hard to listen to, since it reminds me of other (better) songs, so why would I listen to this when I can listen to those.

very similar to K.A.A.N.'s project Naivete. I want more K.A.A.N going trap mode, it is so awesome to hear. I don't know how he can so easily make amazing hype music. I don't know if I prefer Naivete to this. Naivete had really interesting jazzy piano and horn samples, while this project has more generic trap and vintage samples. I love some of the samples used, but others go a little too close to generic trap for me. one thing I adore in K.A.A.N. is his ability to take different rap styles and ... read more
maybe it's the fact that I'm not used to Lil Darkie sounding this rock and metal, or maybe it's just that the sounds are inconsistent, but I really don't know how to feel about this album. the highs on here are amazing and the lows aren't that low, but the inconsistency on sound at the beginning threw me off and made it hard for me to listen all the way through. if it was all only trap metal I probably wouldn't have had as hard of a time listening all the way through, but the fact it started ... read more
great chill album to end the year for K.A.A.N. keeps up with the messages and talking about how underrated he is as a rapper (and I must agree). enjoyable and really nice to listen to when chilling alone or with friends.

songs are good, but somewhat forgettable. the production is good but at some points sounds unfinished (like the chorus of AHundredThousandDollarsAndABenz). probably one of my least favorite KAAN projects so far. it's alright and never an ear sore, has great transitions between the songs. the messages are there and good, but overall just a kind of boring project with some of the worse vocal productions in a KAAN project.

some solid story-telling on tracks like "A Car, a Torch, a Death" and "Trapdoor". has solid lyrics on depression and anxiety that, for the most part, doesn't come off as cringy. honestly liked this album but felt as if "Isle of Flightless Birds" was more of an extra song as "Before You Start Your Day" felt better as an ending/outro song. however, "Isle of Flightless Birds" wasn't a bad song and was actually really interesting with good lyrics.
this is one of my favorite albums of any genre. listened to it probably over 30 times, only one song I really hate and the rest are straight bangers.
