The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
81

For me I believe this will be one of those albums that I respect more than I like. It was obviously very important in the history of Britpop and specifically Jangle Pop and I can say it deserves it's lauding for that. And I'm not saying it's not a well made album or that the songs aren't well constructed or catchy (except for Don't Stop that was an...interesting inclusion). Personally I'm just not sure how much I would seek it own on my own. If it comes on I ... read more

Fiona Apple - When the Pawn...
100

It's 7am when I'm listening to this. I'm not even giving myself the chance to have a good day. A true mastery of misery and resentment. What would be completely valid to come out as a primal screams instead fuel the incredibly strong piano dominant instrumentation and lyrics delivered with the contained combustibility of a powder keg. Incredible.

Hole - Live Through This
93

This is the soundtrack of what I imagine the anger and frustration women/AFAB people feel for being labeled "complicated" or "bitchy" when they're trying to be expressive and ambitious. Courtney has a lot of reasonable and righteous fury and emotions that she brings to this album and she certainly has the vocal chops to back it up. Grunge may not have been a terribly inclusive genre for women but Courtney's variety of screams and drones fit the key characteristics ... read more

Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
72

This album undeniably has one of the strongest album openers ever but aside from "Hunger Strike" , nothing else matches it. Everything else on here feels like a lesser version of either of the two singles. Chris Cornell is a top tier vocalist obviously but his talents have contributed to much better work than what's seen here. An important album in grunge history for honoring Andrew Wood and essentially leading to the transition of Mother Love Bone into Pearl Jam but more of a ... read more

Pearl Jam - Ten

Fellas the album isn't ten songs, you really could've done something clever here. Kidding aside, a lot of great singles on here that you probably already know. Seek out "Porch" and "Garden" if you're not familiar with the album as they would be the best tracks on here besides the obvious ones. Everything else here is okay I would say for the most part. It's definitely in the upper end of grunge albums and a worthy consideration for a tentpole of the ... read more

Soundgarden - Superunknown
96

This is a very appropriate album image because the weight of this album feels like it could pull you into a daunting darkness with no hope of escape. Chris Cornell being a top tier vocalist should be a surprise to no one and he is of course a high point throughout the tracklist. The instrumentation was caught me more by surprised for how much it kept up with Chris' degree of excellence. There's so many good riffs on the guitar and bass and amazing drum work to accompany it all. The ... read more

Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
100

As someone with major depression and intrusive thoughts and suicidal ideations because of OCD, this hit a little too close to home than I would care to admit. Innovative and incredible musically with Trent being a genius. If you've only heard "Closer" or "Hurt" you NEED to see how those songs sound with more context because the change, at least for me, was quite jarring. Incredible project, deserves its praise and then some.

Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? (The Platinum Pleasure Edition)
94

*just rating the new tracks*

Even more absolute classics from the modern queen of disco. A couple tracks on the back end didn't hit quite as hard as the original ones but I will always be grateful for more Jessie Ware. Can't wait for the new album. "Hot N Heavy" and "Pale Blue Light" are the clear standouts and are so good they should have been on the original release.

Spice Girls - Wannabe

No. I can't. It might be an irrational hatred but it's a strong one nonetheless. The second I hear it it actively kills my mood. Any part of it.

Benson Boone - Mr Electric Blue

Yeah this is pretty alright. Not really worth forming an opinion on.

TaTa - Pulse x Glitch

I watched a guy on tiktok recreate these beats in like under a minute. Stop doing this.

Timbaland - TIMBO PROGRESSION

Timbaland's villain arc of being one of the biggest bootlickers is certainly a decision.

Young Thug - Slime Season 3
77

Another moderately enjoyable taste of Thug's signature trap sound. I know his voice is pretty decisive but I really don't mind it and find it capable of creating some interesting melodies and hooks at times. First 3 tracks are quite good (I think Drippin' is underrated) and Digits is a great example of Thug's uniqueness. "Slime Shit", "Worth It", and to a degree "Tattoos" were quite the step down frankly and left me pretty disappointed. ... read more

The Marías - Superclean, Vol. I
80

Listening to after Superclean, vol 2. I prefer vol 2 but this is all solid bedroom pop in both English and Spanish. "Only in My Dreams" and "I Don't Know You" are the clear standouts. But giving the feet away for free? Rookie move.

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS - ワールドイズユアーズ [World Is Yours]
90

In a word: awesome. I'm not fluent in Japanese so I'm not sure of what the lyrical content is but that didn't stop me at all from jamming with the guitar, bass and drums, moving my head somewhere in between a pleasant bob and a headbang. 2nd track is the best on here. The elements of J-Rock and Post-Hardcore synergize really well together to create an intense but still bouncy 6 track uppercut of an album.

Maruja - Knocknarea
92

1/18/26: 94->92

WOW. What a jam packed 22 minutes of refined chaos where every note counted but you never knew where each track would end up. The saxophone really helps drive the melody on all of these tracks so absolute props to Joe Carroll for his incredible playing. As someone who didn't vibe with AFUT as much as I would've hoped (just really can't get past the singer's voice), this reminds me a lot of how I wanted to feel listening to that album combined with the ... read more

Jane Remover - ♡
86

This is my first venture into Jane Remover and I'm already understanding from reading comments that their projects tend to sound quite different from each other. Thus, I'm not sure if this is a good metric of their sound but I enjoyed this. Like the last project I reviewed (PinkPantheress' "Fancy That"), there's something very 2000's about this sound and I guess I just really enjoy that kind of instrumentation and sound. It sounds like the euphoria of love and ... read more

PinkPantheress - Fancy That

4/16;26: 83 ->80
After taking a bit of a break from listening and posting reviews, this was a very pleasant burst of pop to experience as my return. This album sonically reminds me a lot of like the late 90s and early 2000s in terms of Pantheress' vocal styles and also the synths and drums being used. A comment I saw listening to this album on Youtube was something close to "PinkPantheress makes music that would go hard on a racing game menu" and that really helped me pin down ... read more

"@Ezra3747 "No hate but that's honestly disgusting" is a bit contradictory. I knew this wouldn't be a popular opinion but I'm not going to lie and artificially inflate a ranking because it's popular. I really like the glorilla single I think it has a good beat and I enjoy her vocal performance quite a bit. Here I really just do not like the singer's voice and it is an active penalty for me on my listening experience. I considered going even lower but I like the instrumentation so much that this is where I ended up. I'm sure this is a beloved record of yours and I can understand why a lot of people like it. It just doesn't do the same thing for me. Again, maybe on a relisten I will change my mind."
