Honestly, a great album if you need to calm down ADHD and OCD intrusive thoughts, at least in my experience. Bonus points if you substitute the intrusive thoughts with thoughts of your partner or someone else you have romantic/sexual desire towards. True silky softness perfected.
I hardly know her. Anyway "The Girl is Mine" is bad and "The Lady in My Life" is kind of a disappointing closer so I refuse to believe anyone can give this album a perfect score with those two tracks on here.

The soundtrack of having a cigarette on a public bench in the dark and realizing how much you've really fucked things up for yourself and everyone you care about. You don't think you even deserve to cry so you just sit and let the weight of the silence really hit you. You quit smoking for a year or two but it doesn't matter now. There's no one left to be proud of you anyway.
This was a very interesting listen. I don't know if I've ever come across something that sounded quite like this before. I was aware of the subset of singer-songwriter songs that could be more equated to short stories put to music but I have never listened to a full album of this group of songs before. Upon reflection, it feels more apt to praise Warren Zevon's writing more than his singing ability, as while he is not a bad singer, his storytelling ability is more important to ... read more
This is just a straight upgrade from Beloved! Paradise! Jazz?! that takes everything I really liked about that EP and makes it even stronger. The high points are higher and the low points aren't as low. Standouts include "Run, Run, Run Pt. II" "We're Outside, Rejoice!" and the last 3 tracks, but everything on here has a minimum quality of at least good. I would say my biggest grievance is I really wish "Sugar Water" was longer as I was really starting to ... read more
If we had a collab album between prime Kate Bush and Chappell Roan, this is what it would sound like. Haute offers a wide range of vocal acrobatics that I would say are clearly based off the operatic performances Kate Bush offered on her classics like "Cloudbusting" and "Running Up That Hill" while also being tinged with some Aimee Mann sounding vocals in the lower range. Meanwhile, Freddy's retro sounding basses, synths and drums sound very much like extras from The ... read more
Another request from my sister in law. Barely different from the previous album and a similar degree of sanitized and marketable "rock". Gets the same rating as the previous album because I can barely tell the difference between the two. The definition of middle of the road.
This was a request from my sister in law. My wife and sister in law obviously loved the Jonas Brothers growing up and they know I rate things on here so here I am I suppose. Without the lens of nostalgia though I found this to be just the definition of ignorable. It's pretty definitive of what I consider the Disney Channel "rock" sound, which hits about as hard as a feather dropped on the Moon. It's bland and in offensive and clearly crafted to market to all the young girls ... read more
Spooky Siouxsan and the Scary Spirits deliver the gothic side of new wave to near perfection in this album. Siouxsie uses her foreboding yet melodic voice to it's fullest on tracks like "The Sweetest Chill" "Cities in Dust" and "Cannons", backed up by a very strong brigade of guitars, bass, synthesizers and drums. Let yourself be enchanted by this ominous and macabre very well may be the morbid magnum opus of the 80s synth scene.
Let me start off with saying FUCK MORRISEY. ANY PRAISE GIVEN TO THIS ALBUM UNLESS SPECIFIED DOES NOT GO TO MORRISEY. Well now that we've got that out of the way, I do love myself some Jangle Pop. There's always such a danceable energy and groove to the sound and instrumentation and this is some of the finest instrumental work I've heard so far. Johnny Marr has a reputation as a brilliant guitarist for a reason and the rhythm section match his excellence immaculately. Okay now ... read more
Happy to put this beside Pharoah Sanders' Karma as my favorite two track records. Another track that continues to age well for the most unfortunate reasons possible based on the current state of the country.
If this album cover came out now in the US the far right would accuse it of being part of the gay agenda based solely on the fact it has a rainbow on it.
9/11 jokes aside, one of the strongest starting runs of any album ever. 1-7 is an incredible sequence of tracks, rivaled in quality only by the run of tracks 10-19. Amazing project that really shows the incredible musical prowess of Phil Elverum. Just the tiniest bit of points off for tracks 8 and 9 and the ending which I feel could've been a little bit stronger for its length.
Very, very, very good (unsurprisingly), but what I've heard of other Bowie I think I will like the sounds he has on other albums better. An essential Glam Rock project with some certified classics on here for sure, but I'm not sure it's the best he can offer. Was very impressed but not truly blown away except for a few tracks like "Five Years", "Moonage Daydream" and "Starman". Some all time basslines on here too.
If you feel this like I feel this, I love you. It's hard to stay, I know, but it's important. Music brought you here, music can bring you out of it too. Take your meds, drink some water, wear something comfortable. If you have someone or something to hold tightly, do it. You can come back to this post every day if you need the reminder. I'll see you tomorrow. I can't promise you what shape I'll be in but I will be here.
Kanye West. Yeezy. Ye. In a category of the most talked about people in my lifetime in both extremes of praise and scorn. A headline sensation for multiple decades now. A legitimate genius and one of the most prominent people to represent mental health struggles. One of the most prominent examples of attempting to separate the art from the artist. Yeah I don't have much to add. A classic is a classic for a reason. But I respect people who can't listen to him anymore too.
