Big L - Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous
86

In honour of Big L's (and my) birthday, I decided to give his album a whirl and all I can say is... What did I expect other than a classic?

We see him break some incredible flows all over this thing as well as have some hard hitting bars. The production of the album is also solid and also feels Illmatic-y at times but that's hardly a bad thing if you think of the production on Illmatic.

He's descriptions of street life feel not only vivid but personal to him. From his antics ... read more

The soulful singing and entrancing, at times floaty production can make you envision and feel paradise. There is no bad song on this album and it just makes me feel so refreshed. The ending of the title track is insane though...

J. Cole - Friday Night Lights

Probably shouldn't have listened to this on the same day as Iceman, may have skewed my opinion on that album as a result because of the quality difference. But whatever we ball

I had to give this a listen cause everyone was saying this had the potential to be a classic and after listening it feels like a bit of a toss up...

Im the first place I misinterpreted the goal and concept of the album as something wholly different. Since I was familiar with songs like Too Deep For The Intro, ... read more

Drake - ICEMAN

He's the Ice Man, and he eats rice man!

After the very dynamic rollout Drake finally drops his album Iceman and its pretty good. In fact I see the appeal; the issue is that it feels like I've seen the appeal before...

The album contains some of the most potent, focused and hard hitting Drake bars we've heard in a minute. We see Drake go a bit deeper in a track like make them cry and he also laments on a sense of aloneness which I found very heartening. Dust just has one of the ... read more

Went quadruple diamond after a recent resurgence in my playlist🥹🔥

Erykah Badu - Mama's Gun

I remember the first time I listened to this album, at that time I based my opinion of the most popular track being Didn't Cha Know. I assumed that the aforementioned track would be the best on the album for whatever reason, then I remember listening to it and listening to track one, Penitentiary Philosophy. As soon as I listened to it, I literally threw my previous opinion out the window 😅.

I love how it derives inspirations from multiple genres such as Motown soul, rock gospel and ... read more

(No rating yet, need to rotate more)

Pre P. S. : Should've added more S' s because I wanna see more of this cool dollar sign thing that's going on in this page... 😔

Another album I walked into blindly with pretty much no expectations. Contrary to the popularity I see it having, listening to track 1 (DANCE...) had me scratching my head wondering or rather being concerned that the album may not be as A-Tier as I'd hoped. Well obviously the song is by no means bad, ... read more

Olivia Rodrigo - GUTS

This is an album that unashamedly wears it's pop and alt-rock inspirations on its shoulder, which is moreso to its benefit. While the songwriting is well thought out and sincere, it can be a bit blergh which doesn't hurt the record it's just that sometimes I don't feel particularly moved by certain lines (very few of them though). The instrumentation and production, while very ear-filling and immersive, can sound too cliche, especially in tracks that are heavier on the rock ... read more

Holy moly, I stumbled upon a gem with this one🔥.

This album is short yet so packed, the urge to relisten to it immediately after the previously has been one of the if not the strongest coming from this, out of all 2026 projects so far. Definitely a candidate for pop album of the year for me.

The album is such a dynamic listen, with different sounds and styles played with across the project hybridising some genres in certain songs. There's a strong sense of fun that's been had ... read more

Dave - PSYCHODRAMA

Santan did not waste any of the build up from his EPs and delivered with a rather standout debut effort. His lyricism and songwriting are written such that you can feel his emphasis and emotion in his punchlines and no matter who you are, you will feel a sense of either sympathy or empathy from his lyrics. While the lyrics are powerful, the production can at times feel immemorable and bland. On top of that, while Location is by no means a bad song and Disaster is passable, these almost feel ... read more

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.
NR

(Not gonna put a rating yet. Need to have it in my rotation for a bit more)

Today in disappointment from the lack of a Yeezy album, I opted to comb through new music from today and wanted to redirect my listening to another recent drop, and I chose Raye's new project and boy, did I not regret it (I still don't)

This song feels like one huge therapy session, there is a song or a piece of songwriting that resonates with any person, as long as they have a heart and are capable of ... read more

A little less than cardboard from Cench. Other than dipping his toes into grime a little and being a little sentimental on FEELINGS, he does nothing much else. It either sounds like everything else he's done or he just doesn't mesh well with it like that unmasked-for J Hus feature. He could do a lot better than this, this is just pure complacency.

Some Good tracks, others didn't need to be here... That shaybo feature was rather unremarkable.

Nas - King’s Disease II

Rather enjoyed this one, definitely better than the 1st installment of the trilogy. I like the themes of legacy, past present and future across the album. And Hit-Boy rapped pretty well on composure which I liked😁. Best of both worlds that man is. Favourite song is undisputedly Nobody, imagine dragging Ms. Lauryn Hill from wherever she was hibernating to get her to make a generational collab... Either way a very solid body of work

Ariana Grande - thank u, next

Consistent. I like the Hip-Hop-y and Trap-y sound influence most of these songs are packed with. A change in style gone right.

SZA - Ctrl

An incredible project. A no skip experience although there is something of a variance of quality in between tracks, but regardless I appreciate the showcases of vulnerability and/transparency in all the songs. Favourite song is 20 something.

Already acknowledged this album's amazingness, so I'm just here to reaffirm it. I personally don't think the additional songs are as good as the rest - at least not all of them - but they are still enjoyable enough that it doesn't damage the listening experience. A great listen in summary👂

Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.

Kung Fu Kenny did it again...

There's so much to love about this album: the bangers, the deeper songs and the overall message. I love me an album with a concept that unfolds as you listen and the added perk is that the narrative flips on its head when you "PUT IT IN REVERSE!".

I like how the tracks portray a core value or theme, like how Blood sets a scene that implies the end of Kendrick's life and how list shows his struggles with desire. A nice little thing I found is ... read more
