Joji - Piss In The Wind
60

This album feels like I'm supposed to like it more than I actually do. But Joji for some reason decides to fill up the tracklist with a bunch of less than 2 minute songs that make my liking of them go away RIGHT when the songs end. Something else that I was thinking about the whole time of listening to this is that Joji would really benefit from someone like a James Blake or a Finneas executive producing an album of his. I feel they would really help him flesh out his songwriting ideas a ... read more

T.I. - Urban Legend
90

There’s so much charisma on this album man, it’s so infectious!! T.I. definitely made a clear improvement from Trap Muzik. He sounds more focused and his songwriting got so much better. Nothing but catchy hooks, banging production and nasty ass flows and lyrics all over this album. My favorite album from him so far.

Favorite Songs: Tha King, Motivation, U Don’t Know Me, Prayin For Help, What They Do, Freak Though, Bring Em Out, My Life

21 Savage - WHAT HAPPENED TO THE STREETS?
45

I don't even really have much to say about this album. 21 just ran out of shit to say and got boring after like track 6 lol. Also, why was "I WISH" the closer when "ATLANTA TEARS" was RIGHT there?! I understand the sentiment of the song but holy FUCK dawg....

Favorite Songs: CUP FULL, POP IT, MR RECOUP, ATLANTA TEARS

Casiopea - Mint Jams
100

Man I'm SO mad this album isn't on streaming bc OMG this is such a good ass jazz-fusion album😭. It reminds me a lot of the YuYu Hakusho theme mixed with *some* Pokémon. Please check this album out if you haven't already.

Edit: IT’S ON STREAMING NOW!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! EVERYBODY FUCKING MOVE!!!!

Pink Siifu - ONYX'!
95

Thank the lord for Pink Siifu not knowing what the phrase “bad album” means😭🙌🏾. Continuing the BLACK’!ANTIQUE era, he keeps the lively and contagious experimental trap sound. Siifu has never been a slouch when it comes to finding new ways to be the creative genius he is. He even threw in some more upbeat style records that make you wanna dance like “EGM’!!” and “$$$4EVA”. All of the features also played their parts very well, especially ... read more

Summer Walker - Still Over It

See what happens when you make full songs Summer?? You get a muthafuckin’ CLASSIC!!!!

Favorite Songs: Bitter, Ex For A Reason, No Love, You Don’t Know Me, Circus, Insane, Unloyal, Toxic, Broken Promises, 4th Baby Mama - Prelude

Summer Walker - CLEAR

THIS is the type of shit I need from Summer. She sounds absolutely AMAZING over live instrumentation. Whoever her band is on this, she needs to keep them for everything she does.

Favorite Songs: ALL OF EM

Preservation - Sortilège
60

A small pet peeve I have with people on an artist label is when they sound EXACTLY like the artist that owns the label. Dude just sounds like a boring version of billy woods. His lyricism was good but his monotone delivery did NOT fit Preservation’s amazing sounding beats.

Summer Walker - Over It
55

Songwriting on this album was better than “Last Day of Summer” but overall this was pretty boring. I’ve never really been a big fan of the whole “Trapsoul” sound that R&B has taken since it got popular. Just gets stale way too quickly for me. Despite this, Summer is still a great talent when it comes to the singing.

Favorite Songs: Body, Come Thru, Tonight, Nobody Else

Summer Walker - Last Day of Summer
80

I’m sorry but why the FUCK are most of these songs under 3 minutes?! If these songs weren’t so damn good, I’d be more pissed off right now😭

Favorite Songs: BP, Girls Need Love, CPR, Deep, Baby, Prayed Up

Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill
95

This album deserves every bit of praise it gets! Almost 30 years later and it hasn't aged a single bit. I feel like people don't talk enough about how great of a singer Ms. Lauryn is compared to her rapping. Which has ALWAYS been my main gripe when fans speak about this album. While there is S-tier rapping on this, it should be treated more like an R&B/Neo-Soul album than a strictly hip hop album. Songs like "To Zion"? "Superstar"?? "Nothing Even ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust
85

THIS is what I’ve been missing from Danny Brown since the Old & Atrocity Exhibition days. Abrasive, energetic, and overall charismatic are words I would use to describe this album and Danny Brown as a rapper. I haven’t really been fond of his last couple of solo albums but this one makes me feel like we’re so fucking back. The production choices here fit Danny’s zaniness so well and he keeps his lyricism at such a high and entertaining level.

Nas - It Was Written
90

I see why people would like this album more than Illmatic. This album is a lot more conceptual while still keeping up the lyrical prowess that Nas is known to have. On a good day this could be better, but I don’t think it’s as iconic as Illmatic was. Amazing album tho regardless!

Favorite Songs: Street Dreams, I Gave You Power, Nas Is Coming, Affirmative Action, Suspect, If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)

Big L - Harlem's Finest: Return Of The King
75

I gotta give a quick shoutout to Nas for leading the charge for all these old school rappers getting some shine with this “Legend Has It” rollout he’s done all year. Every project has nothing been quality raps, and this Big L album continues that streak.

Obviously they had to find old verses in the vault (RIP btw🙏🏾), but the verses they picked showcase why Big L was one of the best during his era. An absolute flow master with some great verses that I wish were longer as ... read more

Zach Campbell - Midnight Bodies
85

I’ve been following Zach as a content creator since I first went to college around 2017. Since then, he has grown his platform to the point where he is releasing music. And I must say: for this to be his first project? My bitch got potential! You can tell where he gets his influences from (Gaga, Beyoncé, Janet, etc.) but his songwriting is good to where it doesn’t feel forced or like he’s just trying to sound exactly like them. He really studies the pop greats and did ... read more

Halle - love? …or something like it
75

Halle has such a heavenly and sultry voice, you almost forget this album is about how ain’t shit DDG is LMAO. This album has a lot of gems on it that showcase just how talented Halle truly is. I just wish a bunch of these songs were longer than just 2 mins smh.

Favorite Songs: his type, back and forth, braveface, so i can feel again, angel

Leon Thomas - PHOLKS
100

Leon Thomas has officially entered his flow state. This EP is some of the most creative R&B I’ve heard in a very very long time. Continuing his insane run this year w/ the MUTT Deluxe back in May, Leon is still finding amazing ways to sound fresh while still paying homage to the people that came before him. I can’t speak highly enough about him and this project. Absolutely amazing work!

Favorite Songs: Just How You Are, My Muse, 5MoreMinutes, Baccarat

Ho99o9 - Tomorrow We Escape
85

I haven’t been tapped into my punk rap bag in a good minute, but my god does Ho99o9 make it sound so damn good man! 35 mins of just straight aggressive raps, melodic choruses, and amazing rapid percussion. It all blends together in such a great sound collage that makes for an enjoyable listen.

Favorite Songs: Target Practice; OK, I’m Reloaded; Psychic Jumper, Incline, Upside Down, Godflesh

YoungBoy Never Broke Again - AI YoungBoy 2
55

Wanted to review a YB album cause my kids at school listen to this nigga like he’s Jesus Christ himself😭

This is one of those times where I’m having a real unc moment and the music for the most part is just not for me. Now I will say! I really did like the more introspective side of this album more than the “I’ll shoot a nigga down and won’t give a fuck about it” side. That got repetitive REALLY quickly lmao. YB is a talented guy for sure (who I found out ... read more

Fat Ray - Food from the Gods

"Uh, the whole world gettin' spooky
Mind blown watchin' these niggas sign to Druski"

One of the funniest lines I've heard this year by far LMAO. One thing I love about Bruiser Brigade is that each member is so distinct from each other, whether it be their rap style or their production. There's so much personality in all of them, and you can hear it within their features on this album. Fat Ray has such a commanding presence when he raps that you're just drawn ... read more
