I know I'm not alone in this, but I've almost never been as excited for a record as I was for this one. I got into Kendrick in middle school and was 14 when DAMN came out, and I loved it. It was probably the first time I ever felt vaguely aware of an artist contributing to the zeitgeist, or of the notion of a zeitgeist at all, because that album's impact on the atmosphere and culture of the time was impossible to ignore.

I'm sure Drake will be delighted to hear that he's back in my good graces after this one. I can't imagine he took my last couple of scores very well.
In spite of him often delivering unfathomably corny lyrics and unimaginative hooks, in spite of the vast majority of the production on this project being relatively generic, and in spite of Drake repeating over the course of an entire hook "you my twin, you my treacherous lil twin," I kind of loved this thing. 21's energy and assortment ... read more

Chance's performance on this feels as effervescent as his acid rap era, and the hook is incredible.
