Young Thug - Beautiful Thugger Girls
78

On Beautiful Thugger Girls, Young Thug leans into his melodic side like never before, creating a fresh-sounding album that feels as much pop and R&B as it does trap. It’s quite a bold shift, while also being very signature Thug. It’s an album that smooths out the chaotic energy of his earlier work in favour of delicate production, emotive singing, and some of his best-written songwriting to date. While long-time fans might’ve missed the raw, unfiltered Thug of Barter 6 or ... read more

21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin - Without Warning
78

A collaboration between 21 Savage, Offset, and Metro Boomin was always bound to hit hard, but Without Warning goes beyond just being a collection of bangers. It’s a fully realised, well-crafted trap album with a menacing atmosphere that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The chemistry between 21 and Offset is undeniable, and with Metro handling the production, the whole project has this dark, eerie, and aggressive soundscape that makes it the perfect Halloween album.

XXXTENTACION - 17
52

17 is the debut album from XXXTENTACION, and it definitely made noise back in 2017, especially in the emo rap scene. Released at a new height of the genre’s popularity, the album features some deeply emotional tracks that explore themes of mental health, heartbreak, and self-doubt. Songs like Jocelyn Flores, Everybody Dies In Their Nightmares, Save Me, and Fuck Love became instant anthems for listeners who resonated with X’s honest and vulnerable style. These tracks showcase the ... read more

Huncho Jack - Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho
62

When Quavo and Travis Scott announced Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho, it immediately felt just right. Two of the biggest names in trap linking up for a full project? Of course expectations were high. But, even though the album definitely delivers some fun moments, it doesn’t exactly break new ground.

From the jump, you can already hear that they have great chemistry (which was not a surprise since their previous collaborations such as Oh My Dis Side). Tracks like Modern Slavery, Dubai Shit, ... read more

Miley Cyrus - End of the World
85

Miley Cyrus is back with a new single, End of the World, and again she dropped a banger. Behind the song, there's quite a backstory, and you can feel that there's real emotion behind it. Lyrically, it's very well written, and the melody of the song is quite memorable, it sticks with you. The production's clean and polished, but still lets the feeling and emotion shine through. The song's got a very nice feel-good vibe to it, and honestly, it might be one of ... read more

Ed Sheeran - Azizam
60

I have to admit, even though Azizam is another polished, formulaic, radio-tailored anthem, Ed’s definitely put out worse in his career. The production is pretty generic, but it’s clean. But the melody and chorus are catchy though—I’ll give him that. Lyrically, it’s far from his best, but honestly, it’s one of the more listenable tracks he’s dropped in a while. And that says something.

Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
100

Returning with Let’s Get It On after the socially conscious What’s Going? Very unexpected, but absolutely legendary. Marvin Gaye could’ve gone in any direction after dropping one of the most important albums ever made, but instead of another politically charged masterpiece, he turned inward—way inward—and gave the world one of the smoothest, most intimate records ever recorded. And honestly? It was the perfect move.

Calling Let’s Get It On just a “sex ... read more

Lorde - Melodrama
85

Melodrama is everything a modern pop album should be—catchy, concise, cohesive, and incredibly enjoyable. With this album, Lorde crafted a full pop experience, one that perfectly captures the highs and lows of youth, heartbreak, and self-discovery. Her songwriting has really improved on this one, featuring some of her best to date, with raw vulnerability and sharp, almost poetic, lyricism that makes every trick hit you on deeply.

From the explosive opener Green Light, which is packed ... read more

Future & Young Thug - Super Slimey
65

Super Slimey marks the highly-anticipated collaboration between Future and Young Thug, two of the most influential figures in the modern trap and rap scene. With the hype surrounding their collab, expectations were understandably high. And while the album delivers some solid tracks, it doesn’t quite live up to the immense potential of the collaboration.

The album offers the signature energy you’d expect from both artists. Future’s smooth delivery and knack for catchy hooks ... read more

Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
67

Dua Lipa’s self-titled debut album is a solid introduction to the then upcoming pop sensation, showcasing both her vocal talent and her ability to craft catchy and memorable melodies. The album delivers a mix of upbeat pop anthems and slow ballads, with standout tracks like Lost In Your Light, Be the One, IDGAF, and New Rules demonstrating her ability for creating songs that stick.

The album’s main highlights shine through her clear and powerful voice, paired with strong production ... read more

Khalid - American Teen
62

Khalid’s American Teen is a fine debut, that introduces the world to his sound. It’s smooth, easy-going and packed with some kind of youthful energy that made it an instant favourite for late-night drives and summer playlists back then. It doesn’t exactly break new ground in R&B, but it doesn’t need to—Khalid’s laid-back vocals and honest songwriting give it a charm of its own.

The first half of the album is where the album is at its strongest. Location ... read more

PARTYNEXTDOOR - Seven Days
68

Seven Days is a short but smooth EP from PARTYNEXTDOOR, sticking to what he does best—atmospheric R&B with catchy hooks and a laid-back, late-night vibe. It’s not groundbreaking or his best work per se, but it doesn’t need to be. This is PND in his zone, delivering some soothing melodies over sleek production.

The EP keeps things consistent across its seven tracks. All tracks are smooth, have memorable hooks and melodies, and this smooth production. While there ... read more

Majid Jordan - The Space Between
62

Majid Jordan’s sophomore album, The Space Between delivers more of the smooth, atmospheric R&B that fans come to expect from them. Again, their production is very dreamy, and tracks like Gave Your Love Away, OG Heartthrob, and One I Want with PND are clear highlights, with their silky melodies and emotional depth. My Imagination also stands out with its catchy, introspective vibe.

That said, the album isn’t without its weaker moments. Songs like Body Talk, You, and Phases ... read more

XXXTENTACION - Revenge
60

Revenge by XXXTENTACION is short and raw, clocking in at just 18 minutes. It doesn’t offer much in terms of depth or cohesion, but it has its moments. Look At Me! is the clear standout with its chaotic, high-energy anthem-like sound that perfectly captures X’s aggressive side. No wonder this became one of his biggest hits. But, there’s also a more vulnerable side on this mixtape. For example, on I Don’t Wanna Do This Anymore, X gives a glimpse into his emotional ... read more

Harry Styles - Harry Styles
63

Harry Styles’ self-titled debut is a solid first step into his solo career, giving him a chance to break away from One Direction and explore his own sound. It’s a decent introduction, but it doesn’t completely see him free himself from the band.

The standout moment is undeniably Sign of the Times, a massive, emotional ballad that shows off what a voice he got. On the other side, Two Ghosts brings a softer, reflective side, while Kiwi and Carolina add a fun, rock-inspired ... read more

Trippie Redd’s A Love Letter To You marks the start of Trippie’s career, laying the foundation for his signature mix of emo-rap melodies and raw emotion. Being one of the pioneers that contributed heavily to the genre exploding, Trippie stood out with his raw vocals and his ability to swing between heartbroken crooning and some wild, unfiltered energy.

The highlights are great—Love Scars remains one of his most iconic tracks, dripping with pain and melody. Poles 1469 with ... read more

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
100

One of the best albums ever made? Well, it might be the best ever made. Because Pet Sounds simply is an albums that actually does something to you. No matter how many times I listen to it, where I listen to it, and when I listen to it, it always hits me differently. Sometimes it gives comfort, sometimes it gives joy, sometimes it brings emotions, but it’s never just background noise to me. Whenever I listen to the record, it always has my full attention.

Future - HNDRXX
78

Future dropping HNDRXX just a week after his self-titled album felt like such a power move—almost like he was daring everyone to keep up. And honestly, HNDRXX might be one of the best things he’s ever done. This is Future at his most refined, balancing his signature trap sound with smooth, melodic R&B influences in a way that feels natural, not forced. If his self-titled album was all about aggression and dominance, HNDRXX is the other side of the coin—more reflective, ... read more

Future - FUTURE
73

Future’s self-titled album FUTURE is exactly what you’d expect from him at his peak—hard-hitting, relentless, and packed with bangers that cement his dominance in the trap scene. This project isn’t about experimenting or switching things up; it’s about doubling down on what Future does best. It’s full of hypnotic flows, booming 808s, and a steady stream of anthems built for late nights and fast money.

From the jump, FUTURE is pure energy. Rent Money and ... read more

Drake - More Life
78

After the massive success of Views, Drake followed up with More Life, a project he called a "playlist" rather than a traditional, and cohesive, album. Whether that label really means anything is up for debate, but one thing is clear–this is Drake at his most free-flowing and adventurous. Instead of sticking to a cohesive sound or narrative running through the album, on More Life, Drake constantly switches between different styles, moods, and influences, making it one of his most ... read more

"@TheNevermeant 100%, he got way too comfortable on this album, it just feels like a bunch of leftovers sticked together rather than something new and creative. And I get what you’re saying about the wider scene too, there’s definitely a lot of hip hop artists that don’t really push boundaries anymore on their latest albums and just stick to what already works because it still sells. I mean, most of their fanbase will still swallow it. Hopefully that trend gets broken through soon, because it will only further devaluate the quality of music (at least in the mainstream)."
