GKMC is undoubtedly the most important album in Kendrick Lamar's discography. It may seem like just the beginning of his musical career, but the truth is that at its release in 2012, the rapper was already 25 years old and had 8 years of rap career under his belt, consisting of 5 mixtapes and one LP. Yet it was only after GKMC that his career skyrocketed to the position of one of the most respected and widely recognized rappers in the history of the genre. And whether someone likes K. Dot ... read more
Very satisfying album. Both musically and lyrically, it is enjoyable upon first listen and even more so when delving into the details of the lyrics.
glass beach does not confine themselves to one genre, drawing inspiration not only from their base of alternative/indie rock, but also from genres such as post-punk, heavy guitar music, light electronic, and jazz. And in all of these expressions, they sound excellent.
If you were to listen to only one track from the album, let it be ... read more
Okay, I did it. I listened to the entire David Bowie discography. I found reliving these ups and downs very rewarding and inspiring. Bowie is undoubtedly a musical revelation of sorts. How many different images he has created and how many times he has redefined himself over a musical career spanning over 50 years is amazing. Ryan Dombal's comparison that Bowie transformed comparable to Radiohead's from OK Computer to Kid A, but as many as 5 times and in the 70s and 80s alone, is correct.

There is no other time in the history of popular music that the culmination of a career has been such a beautiful and yet such a bitter farewell on its terms. It's just a shame that Bowie didn't live to see how much acclaim Blackstar received from listeners and the music industry. What was frightening yet remarkable was how the artist's death coincided with the album's release, giving the impression that David had put on one more final show for the world in his final days.
I gave this album another chance, focusing a bit more and analyzing the lyrics. It gained a bit, but not as much as one would expect.
Noname doesn't hold back in her language. It's hard to count everyone she takes a jab at: Obama, America, the police, Israel, colonial states, but also specific musicians like Kendrick, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Beyonce, Tylor, and even listeners criticized for praising songs about artists' tragic lives, enjoying the emotions received instead of provoking reflection and ... read more
At the outset, I must say that this is my first exposure to JIMMY's music. I didn't know his history, or his previous albums and didn't know what to expect, so I approached this like a clean sheet.
What a bloody chaos.
I have very mixed feelings about this album. On the one hand, there are a bunch of interesting ideas here, a lot of aptly placed verses, and technically well-chosen multiples. The beats are interesting (although they often lack a bit of power, there is still a lot of room for ... read more
After so many years, we lived to see the release of this project, which Rolling Stones magazine earlier this year called the "Chinese Democracy of Peter Gabriel album," referring to the now famous case of the group Guns N' Roses. This may make some sense given how long Gabriel has been working on his album, but thankfully it's not of the same quality as GN'R's.
O/I screams to us a hell of a lot of perfectionism at every turn. The production time, the number of songs that went through ... read more
I make no secret, I am a huge fan of Kendrick. I think he is the best mainstream rapper in terms of flow, the technique of putting together verses, and conveying emotions. His albums GKMC, and TPAB accomplished the impossible - they united generations. They were appreciated by both old rap fans and younger ones who started listening to the genre only when it was mature, established in pop culture, and won the hearts of the mainstream.
Nowadays, maybe not every hip-hop fan listens to Kendrick, ... read more
This is really happening - the only moment in history when hundreds of thousands of people listening to classic rap gathered in one place on the Internet to listen to a guy playing the flute. I absolutely love how uncommon and absurd it is.
Last year, the first part of the Gabriels' LP was completely off my radar. I listened, but I forgot - that's all I can say about Angels & Queens - Part I. I'm very glad that this time, when the band delivered the complete material I got to know it a little more thoroughly and gave it a second chance to convince me.
It's been a very long time since I've heard a soul album that didn't come from so many years ago and at the same time was so good. Groove is at the forefront here, I love this ... read more
Future Nostalgia is a special album for me. Particularly special because I never expected to like it. I'm not a fan of "radio" music in this style, but Dua Lipa has something special in her chosen beats and the vocals that enrich these melodies. The whole album is additionally wrapped in excellent sound engineering, and every word is so sharp and clear that you could use them to learn English.
What is extraordinary is that almost every song here is a hit in itself. Except for the ... read more
I've been listening to this album since April. I'm halfway through. And I won't give up until I finish.
I have a deep appreciation for BCNR. I remember how I joined the AOTY community in February last year, with my head quite stuck in one (well, maybe two or three) musical genres. Then, the album "Ants From Up There" was released and the entire community went wild. It was the first album I checked out based on the community's recommendation, and 10 months later, it became my album of the year, surpassing everything else. It was a milestone in my life that opened my ears to completely ... read more
The quality of the live versions surpasses that of the studio version, quite impressive actually.
I got to know Jorda through her great performance at COLORS, I became addicted to this rendition of Blue Lights for a good few days. Unfortunately, the rest of her discography didn't keep that europhilia in me, caused by the wonderful sound. Well, so I waited and waited for the next album until finally I completely forgot about its existence.
Then yesterday I looked at the upcoming releases and saw this album. It's interesting how one's own biases and memories can create excitement more than ... read more
Judging by the reviews, this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think that when someone does something chaotic, messy, and wild, you can't immediately say that they are brilliant like JPEGMAFIA. Maybe he's just doing something chaotic, messy, and wild, and... that's it. Does it just sound wrong? For me definitely, from the beats, through the vocal recordings, to the falsehoods and failed attempts at screaming, which were probably supposed to add authenticity, but made it smack of amateurism.
In 2019, a young girl from Los Angeles became a sensation, achieving instant worldwide fame and climbing the charts globally. Despite being only 17 at the time, she captured the world's attention. Two years later, she solidified her position as a dominant force in the music industry with the release of her second album.
I know I'm supposed to be reviewing Olivia Rodrigo's album, but I can't help but draw similarities to Billie Eilish (on a smaller scale, of course). Olivia's debut album did ... read more
This album is akin to a warm and inviting shelter, providing the ideal atmosphere for relaxation. The harmonies within each track are so well-crafted and seamlessly integrated that I couldn't help but express my amazement with a hearty "wow" at its sheer consistency and cohesiveness.
I have never listened to Radiohead. Seriously, I don't even think I accidentally heard a single song of theirs before I got together about 2 months ago to check out their entire discography. Having listened to the whole thing, I can say with a clear conscience that I understand why "OK Computer" has gained such an iconic position in pop culture history.
This album was groundbreaking for 90s music, especially "experimental" rock. It changed the music market and defined ... read more
All I can say is 'wow'. This album still doesn't come out of my headphones, so far it is the production I return to most often in 2023. Fascinatingly, I can't name a favorite track, one song that I would loop over and over again. I love this album as a whole precisely, not for individual moments.
Polacheck has provided us with a wonderful album, self-aware, full of subtext and hidden meanings. I love how she plays with words and many of the lyrics can be understood in different ways. I love ... read more
