I was a bit worried that Hum of Hurt by Converge would just be a bunch of leftover tracks from their Love Is Not Enough album due to it being released not even four months after it. But to me, it sounds cohesive as an album and has plenty of passionate performances, engaging lyrics, and noteworthy tracks even by the standards of the legendary metalcore band.
Doom in Bloom has probably my favorite vocal performance on the album with a great chorus that I found to be really infectious. It Only ... read more
The Dusk in Us would have to be my pick for the most underrated Converge album.
Just like with other Converge albums, I love the lyrics and song themes on here and I think vocalist Jacob Bannon is in contention for being the best lyric writer in the genre of metalcore. A Single Tear is about Jacob Bannon becoming a father. The topic of someone feeling an inescapable guilt in Trigger really hits hard, especially with the slow pace of the song. Thousands of Miles Between Us is about a close ... read more
Unforgiving noise, unconventional song structures, and auditory moments that sound straight up nightmarish, Totem by White Suns is one of the most abrasive and experimental albums I’ve ever listened to. Fans of noise rock have to check this album out for how avant-garde it is.
Written in the year 2020 to the response of the murders of George Floyd, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and other victims and lives lost to police brutality, Wake of a Nation by Zeal & Ardor features six avant-garde metal tracks that blend different elements from black metal, electronica, soul, and gothic rock music together to create a unique EP with each track easily standing out from one another
Howl by This Routine Is Hell (now known as Swain) features some of the consistent and unforgettable hardcore punk performances of the 2010s with tracks that transition seamlessly from one to another not wasting a single moment of its 20 minute runtime
One of Boundaries weakest songs to date. Listening to this made me feel sad and empty.
The mixing on this single is better than the entire mixing on 156/Silence's last album, People Watching, but unfortunately it doesn't mean that the instrumentals are distinct and the chorus is well written
Another really sweet single with 1960s rock influence by The Lemon Twigs
A pretty straightforward but fun club track with a great Danny Brown feature
The most essential big beat album of all time. Every track on here is in a competition for having the best beat(s) of all time as well.
While I think a couple tracks didn’t need to be as long as they are, the production and beats are consistently great to make Music for the Jilted Generation go the distance as an enjoyable and memorable big beat, breakbeat album by The Prodigy
While at points an aesthetically nice to listen to album, I Am Toward You suffers on the compositional side as it's kind of just existing. I can easily get a nice aesthetic from another album but done with much more ambitious and/or entertaining songwriting like with Quadeca or Porter Robinson (examples that this album’s sound reminds me the most of).
Superbloom sees Jessie Ware returning with another great dance-pop and disco album that is filled with extremely passionate vocals, lush instrumentation that builds throughout each track's progression, and steamy lyrics that make me blush.
Jessie is really good at structuring songs with vastly different speeds and instrumentation, which really helps with front to back album listening. Like with the funky and upbeat Mr. Valentine is followed up with the smooth and lush Love You For. The ... read more
Luminiferous might not be High on Fire’s most technically impressive album, but it more than makes up for it in terms of memorability with more dynamic and catchier instrumental writing work compared to their previous albums.
I know Kurt Ballou did the production of the album, but Slave The Hive sounds just like a Converge song with the guitar and drum work.
I didn’t have much expectations going into 1001 LUKEWARM USA by COHORT B, but I ended up really enjoying it. It's post-hardcore, noise rock EP that has a lot of bite to it and songs that, at points, metaphorically "knocked me off my feet." Seriously, the whole EP as a whole is very animalistic. I highly recommend it.
I think it's crazy how people call good 4 you by Olivia Rodrigo a rip off of Paramore's Misery Business when this thing exists
Despite being pretty inconsistent with at least one skip, Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM features a strong selection of tracks with great vocal performances and production work.
I think with the tracks on this album that work the most are when Lady Gaga is taking inspiration from other artists and making them into her style.
Disease is a very Marilyn Manson coded song that I found a little difficult to get into, but has a pretty complex beat the more I revisited it.
Abracadabra is one of the ... read more
A hard hitting and energetic split EP from Sinister Feeling and Heavens Die even though I think it could've been constructed in a more cohesive manner
Listening to its singles, I had some high expectations for Pull Like a Dog. I think folk metal is one of the metal subgenres where you can hear the most wacky combinations come together regardless of if it works or not. Unfortunately, this album didn’t deliver what I was hoping from it as a majority of the album features stereotypical song progressions and standard performances from each member of the band.
Unfortunately this new Psudoku album is a downgrade from the last album I listened to by them in about every way. Particularly with the instrumentals aren't as interestingly technical and come across as one note throughout the album. The vocals are more annoying and also one note.
