Atlas manage to make their songwriting even more repetitive, boring, and predictable on Sunder. The handful of moments that made them slightly stand out from other djent and alternative metal bands on their last album UKKO are completely gone on here. It's a shame cause I was hoping I would like this album, but it's just Atlas sounding like every generic djent band and alternative metal band over the past couple decades for nearly 30 minutes.
It's funny, when I first heard this song I couldn't wrap my head around it. Now I can't stop listening to it. Genuinely one of the most unconventionally interesting singles of the 2020s.
Paranoid by Black Sabbath is one of the most memorable albums of all time based on how catchy it is both vocally and instrumentally. The performances on this album, just like their debut, are tight and feature an incredibly strong drive and grit to them that comes across as unstoppable. Lyrically it’s entertaining to delve into with topics including the anti-war messaging all over tracks War Pigs, bassist Geezer Butler writing what his feels like as a depressed teenager on Paranoid, ... read more
Altars of Madness by Morbid Angel might not be the most extreme or intense death metal album to listen to today, but it was the album that showcased the ferocity that death metal could have all the way back in 1989. It remains as one of the most consistent albums to be found in the genre as well with some of messed up sounding guitarwork, absolutely ghoulish vocals, outstanding production, and drum parts that require a lot of stamina in order to replicate. This is a must-listen for fans of ... read more
What an absolutely insane collaboration. Not only are both Mastodon and Lamb of God providing high quality songwriting and performances akin to some of their best work, but their styles being interwoven together as well as it is creates new levels of enormous sound and scope.
It’s funny that this song works so well and goes as hard as it does when on paper it shouldn’t work at all
Love Is Not Enough by Converge is an album that I feel arrived at a very appropriate time after everything that is (still) going wrong in the world today.
A factor that I believe makes Converge such a legendary metal band is that their lyrics are poetic and match the emotional intensity and turmoil of the songs. Jacob Bannon's vocal delivery adds a lot of added weight, variety, and uniqueness to them as well.
Here’s a few of my favorites:

While it doesn't start on its strongest foot with a small lack of more interesting, less-repetitive songwriting, Poppy’s Choke EP is still a catchy electro-industrial project that is produced very well and features a lot of nicely executed genre blending, including an alternative metal cut.
Poppy deserves praise alone just for managing to bring out high quality effort from both Stephen Harrison and Jason Aalon Butler of FEVER 333 fame for their feature on Scary Mask.
This is insanely new and experimental for Knocked Loose. Denzel Curry's feature fits so well. It also features the first ever guitar solo on Knocked Loose track. Hive Mind is the band's third crack at a song with a repeating chorus, which is incredibly hard hitting and addictive to listen to.
All We Love We Leave Behind is one of Converge’s most powerful albums to date with how raw it is and how it intertwines with what would be expected from a Converge album with some added surprises of sound and stylistic direction changes.
Now, of course I would find this Converge album to be good. But I was really debating with myself if I should give this album a 10/10 or not. These questions were what helped me make that decision:
Are all of the performances across the album tight and ... read more
AS HARD AS YOU CAN by LustSickPuppy is a short yet extraordinary gratifying release for fans of Industrial Hip Hop. It’s intense with consistently high energy from LustSickPuppy. The beats are extremely groovy, diverse, and creative. The lyrics are either clever or too over the top to forget. The repeated refrains that show up on here are catchy. The production is precise on every track. The features on here include vocals by Bonnie Baxter and production from Andy Morin (of Death Grips ... read more
Axe to Fall is in the running for the best Converge album in terms of guitarwork alone. No matter what the tempo of the track is, the guitars fit in and are performed with a lot of heart.
It's not just the guitarwork that is amazing, Jacob Bannon’s vocals have changed to sound more consistently clear across the album. While I love Jacob Bannon’s high pitched, banshee vocals that were most prominent on Jane Doe, I also really think he has a great vocal approach here that makes ... read more
Even though it's not one of the catchiest clipping. albums and I think it could've been longer, Splendor & Misery’s concept involving an enslaved person, referred to as “Cargo 2331,” and the computer of a cargo spaceship is enough to make most listeners want to keep coming back. The haunting gospel performances from guest group Take 6 also make this album stand out from other clipping. albums.
The instrumentals in this Hellripper single are killer. The drums are super tight and that guitar solo in the bridge is NASTY.
First time ever listening to Hellripper. I really enjoy the classic metal sound from this single of theirs. It might not be super unique instrumentally but the guitars go really hard. I found the black metal vocals to provide a combination I don't think I've heard yet.
Another Humanity's Last Breath song where the vocals and instrumentation are generic and bland with the production doing a lot of the work to make it sound "heavy"
Empty Hands sees Poppy continuing a stale, more djent incorporated alternative metal music style execution that she introduced on her last album, Negative Spaces.
A lot of what I had to say about Negative Spaces can be transmitted to Empty Spaces to where this album comes across as a B-side. Djent chugs that all sound the same. Unimaginative songwriting with songs that follow similar formulas with hardly any changes. Ultra processed clean vocals that leave Poppy sounding AI.
All in all, I ... read more
