BONES - Scumbag
95

This is peak cloud rap. This album creates a slow and somewhat dark atmosphere. Bones has an echo effect on his vocals that adds to that. The singing sound nice, isn’t trying to do much vocally. Rapping is similar. Some nice flows but nothing crazy. Bones doesn’t need to do anything impressive to add to it as much as he does. His echoing voice and hooks and verses that are nice to relax or sing along to are what does it. Beats are a huge part in creating this atmosphere. These are ... read more

Quasimoto - The Unseen
95

Musical mastermind Madlib’s alter ego quasimoto is unique and incredible. Vocals are high pitch and unorthodox but when rapping from his own personality Madlib has a very nice, calm rapping voice. Madlib is a great rapper and doesn’t get enough recognition for it. Production is the real standout on this album. Filled with tons of samples used in different ways and his usual laid back style. Madlib’s production shows his full potential of creativity. This project is phenomenal ... read more

Tay-K - #SantanaWorld (+)
75

Short and fun album. I’m not a big fan of Comethazine so I’m suprised I liked this as much as I did. This is a very simple album, no loud extravagant ad-libs or loud beats. Beats are actually quite calm and simple. I like that, basic trap beats seem to really work for tay-k’s style. Tay k isn’t the most unique or interesting rapper either but I just really enjoy the simplicity and fun of this. A very solid trap album.

iann dior - I'm Gone
30

A long ass 20 minutes. Iann Dior is so uninteresting and generic. He’s a blatant Trippie redd and juice wrld rip off without any of the qualities that make those two artists interesting. If he weren’t an industry plant there is no way he would be successful, he’d be another high schooler doing shitty SoundCloud raps that nobody willingly listens to. I’ve seen people call iann Dior emo rap but if I don’t really see it. Sounds pretty happy to me. A couple of the ... read more

Lil Peep - Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1
85

Pretty great emo rap project. Guitar based production sounds very nice and works especially well on Benz truck, Save that shit, and oroblems. Vocals are mixed, on those previous tracks mentioned they work well because he isn’t trying to do too much with the vocals. Just rapping/singing with an echo effect. I like that version of his vocals. The issue I had with the vocals is when he tries to do more singing and ends up sounding like a generic emo rap singer for a bad band. This is mainly ... read more

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

I’m not super into synth pop yet but I liked this album. Dua lipa really excells at making fun and catchy hits. Love a lot of the bass lines on the beats.

Earl Sweatshirt - I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside
100

This album has helped through some hard times. This album is raw and dark. Lyrics are usually related to Earl’s personal struggles with loss and depression. Production is dark and somewhat chilling with compliments everything earl does so well. Earl has always been very good at writing emotional lyrics in a simplified but kinda poetic way, one of the best hip hop writers ever. Another thing I’d like to note on this album is the features. Every single feature is amazing on here, Da$h ... read more

21 Savage & Metro Boomin - Savage Mode
55

Metro Boomin and 21 savage’s first collaboration project is a bit unfulfilling. 21 is a bit boring on here and doesn’t perform well on most songs outside of a couple catchy hooks like on no advances and x. Metro’s production is good but nowhere near as noteworthy as on other projects. This EP or mini album feels a lot longer than it is.

Backxwash - God Has Nothing To Do With This Leave Him Out Of It
85

Somewhat metal and industrial inspired production that creates this hellish like atmosphere. Lyrics also fit these themes. Manic vocals that somewhat remind me of slowthai fit perfectly. One of my favorites so far this year. Very short, consise runtime. This project is dark and heavy but not as fast and insane as most projects like that.

Medhane - Cold Water
80

I seem to be having a really hard time deciding on what I think of this project but I think this is the score I wanna give it?? One thing I'd like to credit this album for is moving away from the typical earl clone sound he usually had. He seems to be coming into his own style which is gives a much brighter outlook for his career in the future. This album is a bit calm and quiet with catchy somewhat simple production. This felt a bit longer than his previous projects but having a more ... read more

Ace of Hearts - Monophobia
45

This EP is a passion project from internet influencer and one of my favorite YouTubers Alpharad. I don't think it's good or bad, just ok. Vocals are whatever, same goes for lyrics. I do like the instrumentals. My main issue with this project is how generic it is, feels so dime a dozen and doesn't do anything to stand out.

Don Toliver - Heaven Or Hell
90

Heavily inspired by Travis Scott's psychadelic sound. Don has a very unique voice that sounds good for rapping and singing which are both common on this album. It's much slower with more singing than Donny Womack. Lyrics are basic trap lyrics, nothing special but it didn't need anything special in that deparment. Production is trippy and fun, does a nice job of creating it's own world much like Travis Scott's rodeo. It's not very long, only 12 tracks and 36 minutes. I fall asleep to this album ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city
100

One of if not the best concept album. Production is good but far from the main focus. Mainly consist of relatively calm, somewhat simplistic production outside of a couple bangers and beat switches. The main focus is the lyrics. It mainly tells the story of kendrick's upbringing and involvement in gangs but some tracks focus on certain aspects such as The Art Of Peer Pressure and Sing about me, im dying of thirst. Kendrick's unique voice and great flow also helps to keep it interesting. When ... read more

Kid Buu - Blind For Love
30

If I'm looking at this as just a kid buu album, it's horrible. He just blatantly rips off other rapper's styles with an obnoxious delivery. Kid Buu is one of the worst rappers I've heard. No comment on the lyrics because I had no expectations for lyrics. The reason this score isn't lower is because the savior that is oohdem beatz. His production across this album is fire all the way through but his potential feels so wasted by the garbage rappers he collaborates with. A glimpse of how good his ... read more

Flatbush Zombies - now, more than ever
50

It's just ok. Rapping is good but not very interesting. Production is the same, kinda trippy but doesn't feel fully realized like it is on other albums. Nothing horrendously bad but just uninteresting. Not much to say about this project.

Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
100

I could talk for hours about the lyrics of this album. This album touches on a lot of personal topics similar to his album before this. On here his voice sounds like he's aged 10 years and his delivery and low energy almost hopeless sounding. The main complaint most people have is the somewhat experimental production. Most people will dismiss the rest of the album because of the sound which is fair in my opinion but I love the sound. The lo-fi sample heavy production is absolutely perfect for ... read more

21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin - Without Warning
90

Dark, almost mysterious production from trap producer legend Metro Boomin that I love. It creates this midnight like atmosphere. 21 savage does exactly what I want to see from him across this album. Cold and heartless sounding delivery that fits the dark night production so well and makes me excited for all future metro and 21 collabs. Offset is good on here for similar reasons. Album is relatively short and very replayble

Kota the Friend - Everything
85

This is exactly the sort of project I wanted from Kota. Not too long but more fulfilling then the vert short project from earlier this year. Kota has potential to go even higher than this, I dont think he's peaked. This album is very easygoing and positive with a chill, tropical sound. Every feature fits the songs perfectly. Some songs sound similar but I really didn't find it to be too much of an issue.

Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 3
60

A step up from his recent stuff. Not quite as good as pre teenage emotions proejcts. It's got this very fun summer vibe. There is a bit of filler and its just a little too long but I think its a decent enough project. Production is bright and fun for the most part. Lyrically nothing but that's not an issue at all, its lil yachty. Not his peak but a step in the right direction.
