I haven't heard anything from Yeat that has impressed me this much as he did on this project. Some very impressive soundscapes and ideas executed incredibly well. Now if this were a 14-15 track album this may be album of the year, but instead it ends up dragging in the second half when it really doesn't need too.
Its fun. "i wanna be the guy" is a fun and upbeat song and the rest of the ep is of similar quality. I guess I was hoping for him to do something similar to what he did on chronic but I am happy he is dipping into other genres and sounds.
Pretty solid Griselda release. One of my favorite parts of this album is Snoop Dogg's "verse" where he just croons for like 2 minutes, its great.
I have never been more frustrated listening to an album in my life. Kanye is a nazi and his followers range from blissfully ignorant to insufferably hatful. I would give this a 0 but Freddie Gibbs provides a descent verse which was the only sense of a completed thought on this entire project. I just don't even understand how Kanye fans like this shit. This discourse surrounding this album has been plagued with delusion and bigotry that I am just mad this exists in the first place. And we are ... read more
This is the fastest I have ever loved an album after first listen. Folk perfection from front to back.
Its just fun. Angry at points but the ska influcenced punk makes everything alright in the end. Its just a fun and uptempo record, and thats all it needs to be.
Oh wow another pretentious asshole giving Soundtracks a near perfect rating.
I mean, there is no way to avoid the allegations but yeah, Soundtracks For The Blind is a deeply challenging record that demands the most out of the listener. Its inconsistency is its greatest strength as despite its 2 hour and 26 minute long runtime, I still get surprised when things change up deep within its second half.
It's also very underrated as a collection of songs. Helpless Child and The Sound are phenomenal ... read more
This is indescribably good. Some of the most emotional music I have ever heard, in a language that I can't understand. While it may not be for everybody, if you even have a remote intrest in more patient, longform rock then you owe it to yourself to at least try this masterpiece.
When I heard Modern Jam off of Utopia, I got really excited to see what Teezo would do on his solo project. At its best, this is a really good reflcetion of Teezo's child-like perspective. I think songs like UUHH are very interestingly written, portraying two people having sex for the first time. But that is also the problem with this record. It is very immature. From the production, to the writing, at some point I just wished Teezo grew up a little. That may sound harsh but I hope this is just ... read more
I think at its worst, this is just a collection of songs that Westside Gunn wanted to put out before he reitred. But even then, some of these songs are fucking awesome. Kitchen Lights is probably one of my favorate songs of the year, and Kostas is a phenominal Griselda track. While some of the stuff Gunn tries does fail, it at least shows that even at this stage in his career, he is still taking risks.
Goddamn this is fun. I have not heard much from Genesis Owusu but after this record I am officially a fan. This loose concept weaves between tones all while holding onto incredible dance melodies. Leaving The Light, The Roach, Balthazar, Stay Blessed, all modern classics. This record literally has something for everyone.
Look, I have never liked Drake. But even I know this his him at his laziest. He just doesn't give a shit anymore. The only brightspot for me is 8am in Charlotte soley for Conductor Williams. The only reasons some songs got popular is because of a trend (Sexyy Red on Rich Baby Daddy), memes ("Money for fun" and Yeat on IDGAF) and one solid feature (J. Cole on First Person Shooter). But none of that has anything to do with Drake. I can understand people who stick with Drake because of ... read more
Its just so good man. This is Danny Brown at his most complete. Songs like Tantor shows he still has the grit and humor from XXX and Celibate and Hanami show a seriousness that had been absent for so long. Its concise, contemplative, and just quality.
This shit is loud, funny and catchy as all hell. More refined then 1,000 gecs and just fun. They have shown that they can literally fit into any genre they want (Billy Knows Jamie is jut a nu-metal song) and I am excited for what they do next.
Black Paint is an awesome punk song and the rest is another fine Death Grips album. I can't help but immedietly judge people who comment "Death Grips is Online" whenever they post on instagram but is innocent enough.
This is a very logical continuation of the first half of The Powers That B. Songs like Spikes and Ring a Bell maintain the bulletproof hooks and others like Giving Bad People Good Ideas show that the group still experiments. A very good entry point for new fans who don't want to assocate with The Money Store.
This is the record that everything had been building up to. The first half, built off of Bjork samples, is classic. Angry beats, weird ass refrains (Back Quarterback), and classic Death Grips production. The second half, my personal favorite, is the most "band" thing Death Grips every made. Zach Hill's drums are more clear and punch through more and the use of guitar adds a lot. Some of the catchiest hooks they have ever wrote and On GP is one of my favorite songs ever. Criminally ... read more
Basically took the worst parts of Government Plates and expanded it into a full album. Not bad at all but a lot of the personallity of the group is based off of MC Ride's intense performance. A fine instrumental record. Shoutout Runway J and H as being standouts.
Besides You Might Think He Loves You for Your Money but I Know What He Really Loves You for It's Your Brand New Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat, its a rough effort in comparison. this is even more experimental then the previous effort. The second half almost completely loses MC Ride to the records detrement. This is very much a necessary record for the growth of the group. My biggest regret in life will be if I never get to hear YMTHLYfYMbIKWHRLYfIYBNLSPH live.
