Yes I will rank this higher the Kendrick so what? This is fun, explosive and just a good time. I think The Price of Smokes is one of my favorate songs of the year and has made me addicted to playing punk/hardcore bass instead of actually trying to get better.
Despite really enjoying a lot of Gizzard's longer tracks, this does not really do much more then Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava did. It is still King Gizzard so there is still a lot to appretiate, I just think there is more to appretiate in other projects by them.
Like Polygondwanaland, this is great exampe of each musicians technical skill and the jammy nature of the project is a real fun time. It is really solid and I think that is all it needs to be.
This album has made me appretiate Kendrick in a whole new way, but it also kind of made me realize that I was never a big Kendrick fan to begin with. Despite that this is still phenominal. Mother I Sober is one of the most emotional and personal songs I have ever heard, period. This album still has classics that will exist long after I die and I am ok with that. I just thought it was great, nothing more.
For as solid and impressive this album is, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. 1999 was phenominal and if you consider this the sequal, then yeah it definetly doesn't live up to it. Despite that it is still polished and still good. Hell Brand New 911 got me into Westside Gunn for what its worth.
Super solid and some of the best flows in hip-hop right now. Raydar, Surround Sound and Dance Now are awesome.
Being a big Nakey Jakey fan I find it hard to be unbaised but being honest this is a great debut album for his style. When I first heard Pine Barrens come out basically a year ago I was excited for this. I think that the melodrama is fun if not a little full of itself and the samples are more fun then anything (The sample on SURVIVAL HORROR comes to mind) but I enjoyed what Jakey put out and I am excited to see what direction he takes after this.
SICK! makes for a great taste of what Earl Sweatshirt has to offer and I think that Fire in the Hole has one of my favorate sample flips I have heard. That guitar is so clean and emotional. 2010 and Titanic are other highlights.
Denzel Curry is the goddamn goat and I wanna hear no slander. This is probably his most ambitous project yet. I think Walkin is the best song released this year and there are many tracks on this thing that follow suit. One of my favorate album rollouts in a while as well.
Probebly is my favorate album that came out in 2022, incredibly production from Danger Mouse as well as solid preformances from Black Throught throughout the whole record. Including some amazing features (Run the Jewels and a post-mortem MF DOOM). Great stuff.
This works better then melatonin, every song sounds pretty much the same and while I guess it is technically good music, it lacks life or anything interesting in the slightest.
