Lyrics were much more introspective than I expected with the way this album was marketed, ofc theres still the type of song I was expecting in 'Erotica' and 'Where Life Begins' but I was not expecting 'Bad Girl' and 'Rain' and was pleasantly surprised.
Loved the super clear production and the RnB and House beats, Madonna's voice sounds really good with those style of tracks.

Madonna is one of the few artists who have multiple Magnum Opus' and this is her 80's one in my opinion.
Continuing the trend of top-tier production and lyricism from True Blue, I was having a great time throughout this listen. I really like the diversity of themes she covered in this, from her religious upbringing to her divorce to her mother passing it was all done very seamlessly.

True Blue is a huge jump in quality lyrically from her last two albums, likely due to her collaborating with others on every song on the album, but that was clearly the right decision because it is just jam packed with pure pop bangers.
I really like Madonna's lower register being prominently shown on this album, which I feel wasn't really utilised in her previous work. It works really well to bring out the emotion in the songs, especially in Papa Don't Preach when she has the ... read more
Compared to her debut the production budget for Like a Virgin is clearly higher, on most song's you could spend hours disecting the different production layers. For me there's less individual songs I would go back to, however each song feels like higher quality overall compared to her debut. At the end of the day this is one of the defining pop albums of our time and set the trajectory for Madonna's career and pop as a genre.
Favourite track: Love Don't Live Here Anymore
For a debut album this is amazing, it's no wonder she became a superstar after its release. I really like the sound of Madonna on this album, I think her voice fits disco very well. Also I find it interesting how the songs are arranged in a way where Madonna is desiring someone, then in the next she pulls back, and then goes back to desire again. I don't know if that was intentional or not but I loved it.
