Travis Scott - UTOPIA
70

can't say i saw this coming. i guess travis saw the opportunity to create a kanye level maximalist masterpiece sort of album and took it. very cool!

in hindsight (and after many conversations with marin and sol in the days following the album's release) this album does not sit well to me. it's still mostly good but it's very flawed and i never go back to it, which is a big problem for an album that's supposed to be a big maximalist masterwork sort of thing.

Tessa Violet - MY GOD!
40

hello tessa violet. welcome back to album. been a while. a long four years it's been. did you forget your lofi charming personality at the door and hastily replace it with a more generic pop clone to compensate? because uh... it sure sounds like it.

60

new songs are neat but she needs to experiment more moving forward desperately

60

this cover kinda bad i'm ngl.

wynne has potential to not be really boring but she doesn't seem interested in doing that very often. she found semi viral success in that look at me track and half the songs on this tape are the same formula as that song. most of the songs on here aren't bad, they're cool enough, it's just kinda boring.

boygenius - the record
70

pretty and melancholic but difficult to differentiate from track to track.

Panchiko - Failed at Math(s)
70

this was cool. the backstory behind these guys is cooler than the music though im ngl.

Clairo - Live at Electric Lady
80

this is the state of my music listening in 2023. i'm listening to a "live" collection of songs already released because i'm that starved for new music that touches me. this stuff is cool, but i think only about half the songs are improved by these newer versions.

kitz - devil's advocate

YOU ARE NOT POST MALONE. this is the FOOP of hyperpunk ANS featuring Machine Gun Kelly and Music To Be Murdered By.

List of things Logan and I observed during the listen of this album.
- GREAT opening line
- something about this genre reminds me of MGK's writing every time
- YOU ARE NOT POST MALONE STOP DOING THAT
- vocals sound really great, processed incredibly
- i hate it when people put the title track as the intro
- "he's chronologically FOOPing right now" - Logan
- the glitchy ... read more

JPEGMAFIA & Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES: DLC PACK
90

This one is actually better than the original release what the fuck. The dlc pack is more lowkey, both in production and in vocal delivery from the duo, and it's so much cooler as a result. I love this.

So essentially, it's ripping off Glexkii V.

Dominic Fike - Sunburn

who woulda thought the fellow swamp guy would drop an album i really love

quintessential florida album. summer in a bottle; and not just the sun and the beaches. captures the nuances here that i haven’t seen anywhere else. a love letter to this swamp too, in a way.

Billie Eilish - dont smile at me
75

i really liked this project when it released after i found billie back in 2017, and i still really like this project today. she's still doing her shit on this one but very obviously is just floating around some indie pop sounds looking for what will become her sound. its just a silly little goofy ep of billie slowly starting to spread her wings.

Logan Pollak - CALM THE FUCK DOWN
80

existential dread fueled by a mix of lots of anxiety and a quarter life crisis. what time is it? uh oh!!! im not a guitar guy but the music is cool and for the most part not too overly intrusive. logan's writing is great as always, feels more visceral now than it has previously. structurally the songwriting is much more in its infancy but that will improve with time. it's also fucked up how talented max is.

slowthai - UGLY
90

gross, ugly, uncomfortably up close and personal. anxiety inducing. powerful.

DaBaby - CALL DA FIREMAN
10

sometimes i like to remind myself that no matter how underwhelmed i've been with music overall this year, it can always be worse. it could always be dababy making the same tired songs with the same tired lyrics and nothing beats for half a decade now. thank god real artists that actually care exist and not everyone releases this unambitious formulaic sludge. also this shit just straight up sucks. there's nothing here that's worthwhile. cheap and soulless.

Qveen Herby - THE MUSE
50

this is either a bit better than her usual output or it's been long enough since i've last heard her formulaic sludge it doesn't sound as bad as it is. or maybe i'm just feeling generous tonight. she's still bland and generic, but this one has a bit more life to it than her last few releases.

Portraits Of Tracy - Drive Home
70

nonsense story with very pretty music that doesn't have any discernible emotional core

Lil Uzi Vert - Pink Tape
50

this was fine i guess

50

this thing heavy depends on samples and interpolations to carry most of the tracks but i kinda had fun with most of the first half of the record while she was doing that so i can't be too mad. the bullshit tactic worked on me.

NTEEZUS - NTEEZUS (SIDEROOF EP 2: WE'RE GONNA KILL TRENT!)
100

NTEEZUS MOTHERFUCKER. IT'S STILL FUCK TRENT.

iconic. banging production, funny bars, fuck trent. sideroof4lyfe

Billie Eilish - hotline (edit)

this is nteezus for white girls
