I've always wanted to dig into the discography of Outkast, a duo I've always admired thanks to some of their singular tracks scattered across various contexts. I thought I'd start with their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.
I found a theme in their way of defining themselves as "outkasts" and talking about the life of a "gangsta"/"player." An album with songs that flow very well while still bringing some wordplay, great bars and ... read more
Finally listened to it after years of listening to Kendrick Lamar
For the most part bringing a very conscious vibe regarding racial issues and discrimination of the black community in American society, but with very particular and different sounds from TPAB, a nice addition to the soundscape of the album
As TPAB "scraps" (thank you Bron), these are some high quality songs, these feel in some way "unfinished" but this feel is what makes them hidden gems and reallt good, ... read more
Just giving it my initial thoughts, from a couple of listens, really solid project, where he expands his sound a bit more trying to do some infused trap/hardcore songs, the lyricism is really good and the rhythm is there. The new type of rapping that JID has been using lately even if in some way has improved the presence of his flow switch etc, but in other ways has made his delivery less "snappy" or "catchy", that's his artistic choice and has to be respected but in ... read more
Noticing that I haven't listened to the reissue yet, I'll fix that.
Not the BIGGEST fan of Goosebumpz, but not a bad track by any means
really liked the chemistry of Mac and Tyler on O.K.
claymation is solid
I'm not feeling good after listening to The Star Room (OG version)... it's really magic
and also The Quest is pretty good
It's a nice continuation to the album, that doesn't take off anything from the original.
This really feels like a debut album, but it's a mix between a few posse cuts over beats filled with martial arts samples and an actual structured artwork designed to take you on a journey inside the 36 chambers.
It feels SO MUCH RAW, but somehow it works I don't understand.... RZA did an incredible job on the production, this is boom-bap to the CORE. Really one of the best album that got out of the East Coast.
I'm not exactly "good" nor even "qualified" to describe why this album sounds the way it does (this is always the case, I'm not a music critic, but it's especially true in an album like this), this is a type of album where is not the quality of the music the stands out the most, but more so the emotional buttons that it pushes and the "storytelling(?)"...
Nonetheless, it's still a wonderful album musically, with simple melodies that convey a ... read more
Since I was introduced to the world of hip-hop, The Blueprint has always been one of those projects that remains stable and considered by many to be a classic, despite not being extremely mainstream it has always been given respect.
I finally had the chance to listen to it in its entirety, and I have to say it's as they said. It has a unique vibe, like
Jay-Z's ILLMATIC, with consistently varied and high-quality production, and each song brings a different vibe, idea, and theme, ... read more
I mean... I kind of see it...
I get the concept "not touching the glass" and I even get the vision of how this album was supposed to sound, And although I would have liked more features on this album because it would have been very dynamic, the overall effect of the album was still quite successful. I don't mind this more electronic approach to the instrumentals.
The idea is that this was meant to be a more experimental album, mixing the vibe of old west coast rap and modern, ... read more
I haven't had a chance to say anything about this album, so let me say a couple of things.
It seems a lot to say, but this album really saved my life, I'm trying to cope with some personal issues revolving around family and generational trauma. I'm trying to be a better person for the person I will have in my life when I grow up, and this album helped me open my eyes on what I had to do to actually get better. This album helped me reach undiscovered areas of the psychological ... read more
damn this is really good 2...
I still felt like the production was a bit repetitive and not on the same level as the first Alfredo, but it compensate on the rapping and the constant quality on the whole tracklist. Not much to say, Freddie expanded a bit the landscape conceptually and I can just say it's really good.
In occasion of Alfredo 2, it felt right to listen the first one and...
GODDDDAMMNNN I CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH THIS SHIT IS GOODD!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKING HELL MAN WHAT A PRODUCTION.
This isn't even something THAT special is just a dude rapping about fucking bitches and gangsta shit.
But in all seriousness this album makes for a flawless listen, Freddie floats on this beats and The Alchemist really made innovative and fresh beats to rap on. Despite only being 10 songs Alfredo really puts ... read more
" I jackboys 2, so? " 💔
It's too long, it's bloated, the quality is constantly mediocre, and not even some highlights.
So yeah, y'all sure y'all want to compare this to Clipse's album?
Still, happy to see SoFaygo do his thing, at least he got some shine.
(THIS IS CULTURALLY INAPPROPRIATE)‼️‼️
I'll be brief, PHENOMENAL ALBUM. The intro almost made me cry. It's clear that the focus on this album and the direction Pharrell wanted to give it was to bring out the raw delivery of Pusha and Malice's bars. Hitting them right in the face with raw production filled with coke rap beats, with incredible hooks from Pharrell. I can't express enough how incredible Pharrell's production is, it's hypnotic, it goes hand in ... read more
MAC MILLER MAC MAC MAC MILLER MILLER MILLER MAC
I SEE YOU MAC THESE ARE MY FRIENDS
After listening to this project for a long time I have consolidated a definitive opinion on Faces. I got into this project by learning about its history and the state of Mac at that time. Watching the documentary made me realize this, Faces is different from all of Mac Miller's other albums. Given that the project was conceived in the form of a mixtape in a period of change between record labels, it is ... read more
Alcune canzoni ... read more
The production is spectacular and innovative compared to all the pop albums that were out at that time. And it's also well written, except the way she decided to sing the whole album made it a bit repetitive even though conceptually there are some changes, but now she learned how to overcome that. I liked it and I like the evolution that this album showed for billie.
GO BIG DAWG
I can't understand the hate, for an EP where everyone called it an industry plant it's really good
an album with the right expectations that turned out to be a flop is not a repetitive album given the various attempts of Lil Wayne both on an instrumental and basic level and in concept... but it sucks.
After so many years as a Titan of the rap industry, people expect not necessarily something different, but that at least those things you always do are done well, then okay, the argument that it's repetitive can be applied but that's another argument at least the quality is ... read more
It seems incredible to me that I have never listened to a Kid Cudi album but here I am, I wasn't expecting a Concept or this type of album from Man On The Moon. I was surprised because I expected the best singing ever but it wasn't exactly like that, not that I don't like it, but I didn't expect a sound like that at the beginning. I think that (by definition) this album doesn't aspire to much, it doesn't aim for a specific quality, but it still manages to get that ... read more
DAMN I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT
So, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, because I kept seeing this album everywhere, and from the cover it always looked like one of those niche albums from the 70s. I didn't know what to expect from the genre (in fact I still don't understand how it can be lofi...), but I didn't expect to like it this much. Musically, I really like it, the singer's voice is raw but pleasant. I don't think I can fully understand the album yet, ... read more
