I don't think I realized how experimental of a band NIN was when I was hearing it on the 90s alternative station all the time on the radio.
Although I don't love every song on here, there is a lot to praise, including the production and seamless transitions between the tracks, making it seem like one cohesive song with many acts. Also the disturbing lyrics shocked me at first but I started to like them towards the end.
I love Closer's progression and I probably like this ... read more
To me what sets this album apart from other recent EDM albums to come out recently is the experience of hearing various textures of music that may cause a sensory overload. Especially that last song which is just... wow.
Anyway this is a really unhealthy relationship to have with your computer but its sounds cool so idm 👍
This was surprisingly fun to listen to!
I'd always felt that going backwards into OutKast's discography would result in hearing more traditional hip-hop and less experimentation/soul fusion but that is not the case at all. I love the alien theme used throughout this album and some of the electronic sounds they used sound really fresh for 1996 especially.
Even through all the goofy beats they still find the time to mention the predatory nature of record labels and young new artists ... read more
Sounds a little too much like Taylivia Carpenter McRaebrams for my taste, but I appreciate the little bits of experimentation speckled throughout and I could totally see why someone would really enjoy this.
I really like this sound, it reminds me of my favorite disco tracks from the late 70s. I loved the Automatic transition into Chariots of Love, but my favorite track has to go to Ride. The hook is so infectious and her voice is both sensual and powerful. I really need to listen to her other two disco albums as it seems like they are even more acclaimed than this one!
Magdalena Slay does it again. I wish this was released an LP because it would be my AOTY hands down. Not sure if I should still count box sets but this one sure made it a tough choice.
This album could honestly be anywhere from a 60 to an 88 for me depending on the day. Sometimes I find it boring, all-over-the-place, and corny while other times I think about how ahead of its time it was and how well it's aged, and all those other little annoying things get diluted. I think both sides are valid, and a few songs are consistently amazing.
Randomly heard Miss Camaraderie at a live interview and decided to check the whole album out. I knew who Azealia Banks and knew a tiny bit about her personal views but didn't want to dive in any further before listening so I went into this mostly judgement and bias-free.
I will say this type of music sounds very out there for 2014 when Happy by Pharrell was drilling its way inside everyone's brains and Katy Perry was still on top of the world, which is why I'm not surprised it ... read more
I'm sorry, an older woman speaking over a trap beat with the occasional guitar sequence did nothing for me. Aside from NOT TODAY, I wish there was more substance to these tracks.
I'd say this is a very top heavy album, as there are only 3-4 songs on here that I'd actually want to listen to again. To be fair, those 3-4 songs are near perfect, but the others are just alright in my books. Now sure why they decided to lock the fuck in for those specific tracks, but it did result in a long and successful career for the duo, so I'm not gonna judge.
Idk if my taste is too vanilla or if I was kinda distracted when I listened to it but I just didn't get the same experience everyone else did when listening. Still very good, and Running Up That Hill is an all-timer, but a lot of the songs just didn't click with me.
I was most of the way through this record thinking, "yeah this is pretty great I guess" and about to give it an 85 or something, when I got to the last track.
I did spoil myself a bit by knowing that this is one of Rocky's most acclaimed songs, so I had high expectations. I closed my laptop, turned of my phone, and lay down on my bed face up looking at the ceiling. As soon as that beat started playing I knew I was in for an experience. Easily became my favorite Rocky track and ... read more
I'm sorry guys I don't think I fully get it.
I haven't listened to black midi yet but Geordie Greep's solo album was one of my favorites of that year. I just feel like most of these songs don't go anywhere, and there's an overall lack of cohesion. I really like "Actress" though that song was euphoric. Maybe with another listen it'll click.
Who knew the guy who didn't know what a cello was was secretly a psych rocker this whole time!
This is my first time hearing this combination of rage and metal before, and I kinda like it. It's refreshing to hear a guitar and drums after a rage beat, and when it switches back it brings in a huge burst of energy of which this album has plenty. I also like how genuine he sounds with his lyrics, and I can tell he's talented. I guess I'm just not used to this type of sound so it can get a bit annoying at times and some of the songs sounded a bit too much like each other.
First couple of tracks are definitely the strongest, and I love the unconventional time signatures they play with. Part of my time listening to this was spent walking too and from classes, and there were times when the guitar synced perfectly with my gait, which made for a really immersive listening experience. Shoutout to Khn and Klek de Poitrine for being some of the funniest credits I've seen on a record.
This sounds like the soundtrack for Sophia the First if it was an adult show
This is actually pretty good. I guess this is what happens after listening to a bunch of mediocre to bad rage albums in a short amount of time, my expectations were low, and I was pleasantly surprised!
