Souly - traence
90

80

black midi - Hellfire
90

I went to a black midi concert once, shortly before this album released. I remember how the owner of the venue where they played at had described their sound to me with only one word: „mindfuck“. I think there‘s no other term that fits their music better than simply „mindfuck“.

Hellfire is undoubtedly black midi’s most ambitious and impressive record, it sounds like a circus from hell, telling abstract and hellish tales that come straight from another ... read more

OG Keemo - Skalp
90

Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime
100

Yank Crime feels like the little sister of Slint's Spiderland; it's an absolute gem of the post-hardcore genre. I'm really glad it gets the attention it deserves on this website. While not being incredibly accessible at first, it grows on you, it truly does. And once it grew on me, I was hooked. Intense and dissonant guitar, raw and powerful vocals, math-like elements and captivating yet unconventional structures are what make this album so incredible. It really stands out for me ... read more

Marty Robbins - Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs
80

Marty Robbins' iconic country album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs amazingly captures the atmosphere of the old wild west. Every song feels like a mini Western movie.

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs
80

Diamond Dogs is a cool dystopian concept album that‘s heavily inspired by George Orwell‘s novel 1984.

Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
90

Amy Winehouse deserves all the attention and acclaim she gets. She was an incredible singer and songwriter. Her lyrics were often deeply personal, but most importantly, they were extremely honest. There‘s such a raw emotional depth and vulnerability in her voice and songwriting. Amy knew how to brilliantly capture the feelings of love, heartbreak and self-struggle. That‘s what made her so outstandingly relatable and that‘s exactly where she shines the most.

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There
100

"Hands out for balance, you slip and you almost grab mine, but you find your feet. And I never wanted so much someone to fall." - Good Will Hunting
Ants From Up There is an album you listen to while having goosebumps throughout the whole thing. I'm a person who truly appreciates and loves listening to music, but I must say it takes quite a lot to get me emotional. But Isaac Woods' songwriting is just different. It might be sarcastic and really cryptic at times, but it still ... read more

アダンの風 is an album that heavily relies on its ethereally beautiful atmosphere. It follows the story of a girl taken to the ficitonal island of Adan located somewhere south of Japan. Ichiko Aoba does an excellent job at building this immersive world, painted by lush greenery and serene beaches. It really feels like you're travelling to a mystical world somewhere at the edge of reality. Lyrically, Aoba keeps it really poetic and metaphorical. But that, paired with the vibrant ... read more

Rush - Moving Pictures
80

Moving Pictures perfectly encapsulates the early 80s prog rock sound while covering various topics like dystopia and social critique/commentary. The album feels like a wide palette of various influences from different genres while staying to true to the band's signature sound with Geddy Lee's high-pitched vocals and the band's intricate instrumental work. It truly feels like a gallery of pictures, just like the title suggests.

Danny Brown - Atrocity Exhibition
90

Atrocity Exhibition is undeniably the best Danny Brown has ever sounded and it might be the pinnacle of 2010s experimental hip hop. Atrocity Exhibition is about the downward spiral into which Danny is falling deeper and deeper, while really staying true to its title. On the album he tells us about his twisted mental state, his drug abuse and his sexual fantasies in a way so dark and wild unlike on any of his other albums. On top he does all of that over some extremely trippy and unusual but ... read more

[Akira Yamaoka] - Silent Hill 2 (Original Soundtracks)
90

I‘m not trying to make this a game review of Silent Hill 2, although I have to say it‘s an incredible video game, so I might be a little biased. Also, this is a soundtrack and it‘s clearly not designed to be listened to like an album where the track order is crucial. That doesn‘t take anything away from the amazing music that‘s on here, though. It‘s a compilation of many short songs from various genres. There‘s one thing they all have in common, though, ... read more

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
90

Electric Ladyland is easily the pinnacle of Psychedelic Rock. It‘s incredibly impressive, unique, iconic and most of all it’s trippy as hell. All of this while still being exceptionally accessible and casually enjoyable.

Boris - Boris at Last -Feedbacker-
90

Holy fucking shit! This is one of those albums that‘s just an experience. It genuinely blew me away when I first listened to it. The album devolves into total chaos over the span of 40 minutes and leaves you wondering where the boundaries of heavy music lie.

Deafheaven - Sunbather
60

I do get the idea of this „Blackgaze“ sub-genre, definitely makes sense in theory, and Sunbather is probably the most famous example of that. It doesn‘t really click with me, though, and it feels at times more just like a dense wall of atmospheric sounds than anything else. For that reason I enjoyed the track „Irresistible“ the most even though it doesn‘t represent the album‘s sound overall really well.

"@MyNameIsLuca It’s natural for personal taste to play a role in how you experience music. Admitting that I‘m "not a big metal fan" adds enough transparency to my perspective to make it clear that my view is personal rather than an objective critique of the genre. That‘s what a review is all about imo. Thanks for the positive comments on some of my other reviews tho!"
