This album is to me is much like the movie "Funny games" by Michael Haneke in the way it makes you feel and its use of music. In the film they use the song "bonehead" by john zorn and naked city, a song that breaks the calm at the start and scares you with this cacophony that sweeps you off your feet, making defy any prior expectations you had going into it. The blaring noise sounds almost inhuman and you are left there unsettled and speechless. Thats how it feels like when ... read more
A pretty cool greek dethrock and punk record from the 90s. This record definitely has some intrigue considering this was the start of a pretty important band in the punk scene, coming with a sound that was pretty odd for the scene it was coming out. Not to day that they were totally aliens that dethrock and post hardcore styled punk hadnt been attempted before as genia tou chaous and magic de spell have done their own attempts at semi similar sounds, but this feels like more of an evolution of ... read more
This has a cool mix of different influences coated in emoviolence, but it needs some work on the production and song structure. The guitars and drums were quite good, vocals dont add too much to the sound (they drown in the sound but dont rly do as much as they could to add to the wall of noise) and could be encorporated in a more fitting way. The 2nd and 4th song were my faves, both quick and to the point very unhinged and sporadic in nature, the whole band seems at unison at those 2 songs ... read more
johnny knoxville kind of looks like him.
Thats mainly what i wanted to say. I think this album while really influential at the time hasnt aged very well. Hell isnt a very interesting songwriter, the songs lyrics dont suck me in and while i understand, the attitude they give off is a very "i dont care about anything, but having fun" type album. But even then, richard hell doesnt stand out as a really emotive or powerful vocalist and the instrumentation while quite wild and having ... read more
Its always scary when a band comes back together after a long time. It very rarely turns to them churning out anything but subpar material. Im SO happy to say that this isnt the case with deadguy this time around.
You know, deadguy? The band considered one of the first bands to do mathcore and a force that helped set the mathcore sound of the 90s mathcore scene. They have been one of the more forgotten bands of that scene through the passage of time and i mean... how could they not be. They ... read more
Really cool ep! First release i hear in a while and this is refreshing. Totally could see this being the future of noisegrind and id be right on board. For 6 minutes this is definitely worth your time, as it captures sounds ive never heard in music like this before and has some really great production. Everything is crisp and manic as it should be. Hope they release some more stuff cause this is great!
Finally my 1000th rating on this site! And its.... my 2nd least fave converge album.
Cant even really say that this is some important milestone to me or smth. I expected it to be more significant but i think the fact that i accidentally made it be a C tier converge album is quite fitting. I will say though this site meant quite a lot to me back in 8th or 9th grade when i started it. It was like, as i assume for most people here, quite liberating talking about music you liked in a platform of ... read more
Not really a fan of math rock usually but this is so compelling the way its done! You can hardly hear the dude screaming the vocals at some points and i do wish the vocals made more of an important role on the album, making them louder but the guitar does the talking for him lol. This album alternates between melodic beautiful math rock riffs and visceral post hardcore, usually bringing the 2 togethers to make some damn confusing sounding segments. I personally think its at its best and works ... read more
really strong release! Its got some really tight instrumentals and goes some cool places instrumentally, incorporating some odd sounds in some places and it definantly works to its benefit. Also the samples and the comedy at places gives a lot of character to these songs (loved the teen wolf sample on jane is a werewolf loll). The cover art is also pretty gnarly to add. Definitely worth checking out, very cool up and coming band
yeah, yeah i know this scores scary for an album like this but i must say. I havent laughed to or enjoyed an album this much in a while. I think what ultimately makes this work for me is that these guys dont take any of this seriously at all, like right from the beginning with that god awful alien skit that even i was like annoyed at, it atleast tells u that this isnt an album u put on and take seriously. I think that these guys legit are good musicians and would make some half decent music if ... read more
This compilation is so neat.Even at their worst they are leagues ahead of a bunch of midwest screamo. I think that this has some weaker cuts and isnt as solid a release as for cameron which tbh is kinda hard since that ep is super special. The mixings like my biggest vice with this compilation, some songs are mixed so loud, others so quiet and the vocals get burried and all sounds muddy but what can u do, thats indie production lol. I loveee a bunch of the songs though like my journey to the ... read more
Considering that these guys were SUPER young when they made this album its pretty incredible. Now that first sentence might be a bit misleading cause it can lead you to assume that this albums just a cool fast hardcore album with a shit ton of converge influence spearheaded by a bunch of 19 year olds who played alright. No, I want to make it perfectly clear that this band had something unique about them right from the very start. This is some fast, tight and menacing hardcore that is performed ... read more
So far 3 albums deep in my nick cave experience i have to say that his albums are always unpredictable, both in their sound and the lyrics. I love nick a hell of a lot as a singer and writer he is super emotive and unique with his character portreyal and really inspires me. The instrumentation and sounds of all my favorite songs of his are all totally different from one to the next. This all combined with the fact that nick cave is such an insteresting guy makes this band really easy for me to ... read more
doctor....i wish the cure wasnt a 49 minute album epic of intense melodrama and sadness of everyday life. It aint it
This album is like how you feel when you are curled up with your blanket starring out the window at a cold rainy day, knowing that your plans got ruined cause of the rain but you still find comfort in the warm embrace of your blanket and your house.
Its officially lad autumn, tempatures dropping and im back listening to emo music... feels good man. It took me way too long to get into this band they are right up my alley for sure. Their mix of sad indie pop with midwest emo is really palpable ... read more
Regina has so much charm in her music, her personality shines through and makes it super special and distinct. I love her voice and how he lets her inflections take over so much in her songs, that definantly makes the songs more personal sounding. This album has a lot of creative ideas for melodies and ways to penetrate your expectations of what melody should fit in certain passages. Definantly worth hearing, im surprised by how much i connected with this album honestly
