I have seriously no idea what to rate this project. I have listened to albums that deject you, depress you, and make you feel an overwhelming sadness. This project does that but it does more. This record is so seething with hate and depression that it rubs off on me. This record puts me through every self hating thought that could possibly hit me and punches you in the gut until you lose it.
To you the average listener you probably won't feel that and this record might be more enjoyable. But I ... read more
I am a good bit familiar with John Darnielle’s The Mountain Goats. I am well acquainted with his later release ‘The Sunset Tree’. I found it to be a remarkable record because of John’s unique fashion of vocals and his fascinating style of lyricism. Apparently this is an absolutely seminal album in the hardcore punk genre. This album is really my first time dipping my toes in the water of hardcore punk and I found that I enjoyed it thoroughly.
The tracks on this album are short and for the most part intense. The vocals are delivered fast and manically which combined with the energetic instrumentation make a very visceral and thrashing hardcore experience. Intercut between these hardcore punk cuts are these reggae songs which in my prior ... read more
