RAYE’s debut album showcases the singer’s incredible vocals. The writing is pretty good and the production is very complimentary. That being said, the first half of the record is so much better than the second half. The quality drop off is very noticeable and it’s the biggest flaw of this record. Despite that, I still found it enjoyable and a great indication of the quality that is to come.
Her best album since NFR. Some of the interludes weren’t really needed, but other than that all the songs were great. It isn’t quite as consistent as NFR, but it’s still good. I can see where people are coming from saying that it can be boring, but I disagree. I think that it’s some of her best writing and, even if it can lean a bit generic, the production matches the vibe Lana is going for. Overall, a great reminder of the talent of one of the most influential people in ... read more
I think this is a good record that is a bit overhyped. I see this album being praised for its experimentation, but I didn’t feel it was crazy experimental. I didn’t find the songs to be crazy good for pop songs either. It was just pretty good, but nothing crazy.
Thirty-seven minutes of Tik Tok music. The vocal production is not very pleasing to the ear. Not to mention the lyrics are made to be as non-specific as possible in order to please the Tik Tok algorithm. There are some decent tracks, but they are surrounded with half-baked slop. I think sombr needs to take some more time to make a considered project without worrying about losing Tik Tok hype.
Madison Beer has been overlooked as an influencer for too long. This is by no means an exceptionally great album, but it’s still pretty good. Most of the songs are carried by Madison’s vocal performance, with the production and lyrics being just ok. Overall, a step in the right direction for the hungry artist.
Higher highs, but lower lows than Mariah’s debut. For me, Emotions is just as good as her previous. The title track might be her best song ever. It has just about the same problems as her previous album. The album tracks aren’t as good and there could be more differentiation, but overall, it’s a still a good project.
More great ambient music from C418. There are some really great tracks here, but it drags a little longer than Volume Alpha. Still, an exceptional soundtrack album.
A short, fun mixtape from PinkPantheress. It’s very energetic and upbeat. I know it’s not really her thing, but I would like her songs to go on for a little bit longer to fully explore her production because it is interesting. Overall, a short and sweet project.
A great concept that wasn’t executed to its full potential. Between this album’s thousands of features and vocals that I can’t get behind, I found this harder to enjoy than Demon Days. The concept of the destructiveness of humans is great, but it fails to be executed frequently enough to be full realized. My biggest issue with this project was the features though. They add nothing interesting or noteworthy that couldn’t have been accomplished in a solely Gorillaz track. ... read more
I can appreciate the objective quality of Demon Days, but personally, this isn’t for me. I tried to be objective, but I’m just not a fan of their music. I found the lyrics to be dull and the rapping to be corny at best. I can, however, acknowledge the quality of the production and concept. I can’t really stand David Albarn’s voice, but it is passible here. Overall, an objectively quality project.
A pretty basic record considering Sia’s previous work. After 1000 Forms of Fear, it is understandable she would want to continue her mainstream success, but this is much more watered down than her previous works. That being said, there are some great songs here, it’s just they are outweighed by the filler tracks between them. I think a bit more creativity was put into the deep cuts, then it potentially could’ve matched her last album.
A great debut for one of the best vocalists of all time. The vocals on the album are of course top tier, but the songs themselves are also great. I felt there could’ve been better quality deep cuts, but overall, it’s a timeless debut record.
A pretty ok album from Reneé Rapp. This album feels like it just needed a dose of personality to take it to the next level. There are solid songs on here, but none of them feel very distinct to Reneé. She is undeniably vocally talented, but she needs to improve the lyricism and uniqueness.
The vocal performance of Kali Uchis mixed with the dreamy production makes for a breathtaking experience. The album is extremely consistent in quality throughout and contains very personal lyrics. All in all, an amazing project from an undeniable and underrated talent.
The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is packed full of Chappell Roan’s personality. Her sometimes out of pocket lyrics mixed with stellar vocal production make this an amazing project. The only thing holding this back for me was the kind of basic ballads that could’ve benefited from the personality that tracks like Femininomenon have. Overall, a very strong debut from Chappell.
This, in my opinion, is Beyoncé’s first great work. There are so many enjoyable songs. Some people say this was a bit out there for her, but I disagree. I really think she was just doing what she does, but better on here. It isn’t quite as great as some of her upcoming work, but 4 is still great for what it is.
Outside of All I Want for Christmas Is You, it’s just mostly alright covers. The one great song (that’s overplayed, but still great) does not warrant a full listen of the album. A very typical Christmas album that contains the biggest modern Christmas classic.
This was not it. Miley has titled a project about being overly horney and on acid after her dead pet. Truly baffling at points. However, I can appreciate how Miley just does whatever she wants. She did not make this to be a hit, she made it because she was artistically inclined to do so. Also the album cover is funny.
