A very fun album. The blend of genre on this album is done amazingly. MOTOMAMI is a mess, but it’s all the better for it. My only issues is some of the songs were maybe a bit undercooked and it doesn’t hit the highs it could, but this is still a great project from Rosalía.

Miley Cyrus - Can't Be Tamed
60

This isn’t complete Disney slop, but it’s close. Miley is trying to be edgy, but there’s nothing edgy going on other than Miley saying she’s edgy. She is telling us she is edgy rather than showing us her actually being edgy. There is a reason this is not seen as the shift in style for Miley Cyrus, like Bangerz is. It is because, even though it does have moments of mediocrity and cringe, Bangerz was actually provocative. This is mostly boring ballad teen-pop. It does have ... read more

The Kid LAROI - BEFORE I FORGET
56

I expected worse. The production as stale and I felt like I was listening to different versions of the same song for the most part. There isn’t anything lyrically interesting to balance out the dull production either. There are fine moments, however, that save the project from being fully bad. I wouldn’t describe this as an unpleasant listen, just one that is so unremarkable that there is no point in listening again.

RÜFÜS DU SOL - Inhale / Exhale
66

While the album does increase in quality in the second half, I felt like the album was way too watered down. It didn’t take enough risks to be great to me. It had good moments and was well produced, but was just kind of boring.

The Weeknd - Beauty Behind The Madness
70

I don’t know why I don’t care for most of The Weeknd’s albums, I just don’t. This could change after I listen to his next few albums, but I think my opinion of his music generally won’t change. The hits on this album just weren’t hitting. I know some of his hits on his albums I have yet to listen to and they just clear this album’s hits by so much for me. I just don’t like I Can’t Feel My Face or The Hills. They just aren’t for me I ... read more

Harry Styles - Fine Line
72

Definitely much better than Harry’s House. There weren’t as many boring moments and the production was generally more interesting. I’m not really annoyed by Watermelon Sugar as much as some other people, so that didn’t really bring it down for me. I do think there could’ve been more moments that lived up to the quality of songs like Adore You, but, overall, it was fine.

Harry Styles - Harry's House
65

This is just so unremarkable. There isn’t much that is offensively bad about it, but there isn’t much that stands out as good either. I can’t believe that this beat Renaissance. It is inferior in every way, but I digress. The production is rather boring and the songwriting isn’t great. There honestly isn’t much to say because it doesn’t give you much to talk about. It’s just there. So boring.

Madison Beer - locket
68

A slight decline in quality from her previous, but still not bad. There was a very long build up to this, so naturally there were high expectations. The inclusion of make you mine on this album made me think it would be more like that sound, but apparently not. This isn’t inherently bad, but the biggest issue with this album is its cohesion. It feels a bit messy. I really wish she went more EDM, but this was fine.

Halsey - The Great Impersonator
70

Halsey’s extremely personal album, The Great Impersonator, is a respectable effort. It is truly heartbreaking to hear her experiences (which had no right to be downplayed as main character syndrome by that bald man). Unfortunately, this album just doesn’t give the story it is telling much justice. I didn’t find it very musically interesting and actually annoying at some points, which is a shame. I do give her points for having a clear vision of what she wanted to do.

Gorillaz - Gorillaz
70

A decent debut for the fake band. Despite not being a Gorillaz fan, there are some good tracks here, but they are kind of weighed down by an unclear vision and some nothing burger tracks. There is a good amount of experiments that don’t pay off here. Even thought their debut does show potential, this is just a slightly above average album for me.

Fergie - The Dutchess
58

I honestly expected this to be much worse. Her voice with the black eyed peas is nearly unbearable, but it isn’t as bad here. I would have liked to see what a uniquely Fergie project sounded like separate from her work with the band, but Will.i.am is involved in everything. It is better than anything the black eyed peas put out though. Ultimately, just another collection of pop songs that really don’t have much to offer.

100 gecs - 1000 gecs
72

A pretty good hyper pop album. At times, however, it did lean a little more annoying than fun. Some of the instrumentals and vocals are just unpleasant to the ears. The production is good most of the time though. Some of the tracks were just too out there for me, which brought down the score.

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
80

I Love My Computer is a great EDM album. The production is the best part about this album. It is energetic and infectious. The lyrics and vocals aren’t as good as the production, but they’re fine. I don’t have much more to say other than it was great.

Normani - DOPAMINE
67

A forgettable RnB project. The tracks don’t have much distinction and blend together as the album goes on. Normani’s vocals also leave a lot to be desired. There isn’t anything interesting that she dose to elevate the tracks. The lyrical content is also lacking. She mostly chooses to go more for a flow and repetitive style of lyricism, which just hurts the album. Overall, this album just feels uninspired and boring.

Three Days Grace - One-X
70

Not bad, but kind of uninteresting. There isn’t much uniqueness here outside of Adam’s voice which is carrying the rest of the band. The lyrics aren’t great and are sometimes painfully unspecific and bland. It is a pretty predictable in terms of its pop structures, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s just another example of how just ok this album is. The only reason this is green is because the voice kind of sells it for me.

Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa
69

Most of this isn't stellar. The production just isn't as good as her newer albums. Dua's debut does have a few very strong songs on it, however, that would send her into pop stardom. Her voice is the best part by far and is what probably gained her the recognition of best new artist because the potential was definitely there and that potential would be realized on her next project. Overall, a fine pop debut from a burgeoning pop star.

bbno$ - bbno$
42

Not a hot take to say that this isn't good. I feel like the hate can be a bit overstated, but don't get me wrong this is still really bad. The production is fine. It is polished, just kind of boring sometimes. bbno$, unfortunately, doesn't exactly live up to his production. His flow is static and his voice is kind of annoying sometimes. The lyrics are just not good. They get repetitive throughout the absurd fifty minute length of the album. To make it worse, only one song hits ... read more

Tate McRae - i used to think i could fly
60

This album sounds like an artist who hasn’t found her signature sound yet. The writing is less than unremarkable, but it isn’t necessarily offensively bad. i used to think i could fly is just boring and eventually just starts to blend together as the album goes on. I think some more time should’ve been dedicated to finding a sound for Tate McRae instead of rushing to put out this album just because her label was demanding it.

Ethel Cain - Perverts
84

The ambience of this album is unmatched. It is so unsettling. If someone had gone into this expecting songs like American Teenager, they couldn't have gotten something so completely opposite. The soundscapes on here are so meticulous and it is clear there was a lot effort and thought that was put into this record. The decision to label this an EP is definitely a way to take this out of the canon of her LPs. I think if she had labeled it as an LP there would have been even more backlash ... read more

Lily Allen - West End Girl
83

The album that Taylor thought the Tortured Poets Department was. The level of detail on this album is scary. This man messed with the wrong songwriter. Not only that, but the production complements the story perfectly as well. Screw David and Madeline for real.
