can't believe I put this off for so long! this was another case of a record I was really interested but listened to the first track and wasn't feeling it, so I just turned it off (this happened like three times). but im really glad I ended up seeing it through! rage is a genre that ive always had respect for but rarely connected with, and im a little embarrassed to admit that the more heavily rage-influenced tracks off Jane remover's Revengeseekerz earlier this year were probably ... read more

Racing Mount Pleasant - Racing Mount Pleasant

I tried listening to this album quite a few times since it released in august, and despite loving the first track every single time, I quickly lost focus as the album progressed which led to me never even reaching the halfway mark it. however, when I saw them open for my goats Geese last month, it really changed my perception of the band. there was just something about hearing it all live that made it finally hit me emotionally. AFUT-era black country new road comparisons are no doubt common, ... read more

Frank Black - Teenager of the Year

whenever im really into a band, I always love to see one of its members release solo projects. but, for some reason, I was a little cautious of Frank Black's solo work, despite being a huge fan of Pixies since the ninth grade. and honestly, im not even sure why I was nervous. I think I must have heard someone at some point say it sucked or something, and I took their word for it. I also never liked the cover of this record much, so that was probably also a factor. however, after sucking my ... read more

Action Bronson - Cocodrillo Turbo
78

my only previous exposure to Action Bronson before listening to this album was his NPR tiny desk, which I really loved for how goofy and entertaining Bronson was as a performer and lyricist, so I had somewhat high expectations for Cocodrillo Turbo. Were my expectations met? yeah id say so. its nothing crazy, but it is incredibly chill and im still a big fan of bronsons lyrics LMAO they're so awesome and funny. sweet stuff!

Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces
93

another jazz-funk record for this beautiful snowy Sunday in upstate NY :) ive never heard a Donald Byrd record before this, and I think it was a great introduction! incredible production, which I can always especially appreciate in jazz music. every instrument feels perfectly placed in the mix to create a funky and gorgeous vibe. this record has some of the most crisply produced drums ive ever heard on a jazz record. they're so snappy and punchy, and very well played as well. the strings ... read more

Herbie Hancock - Directstep

reminded me a lot of head hunters, which is my favorite Herbie Hancock album and possibly my favorite jazz album period, so obviously its awesome. super funky, groovy, and any other words you could use for music that makes you wanna bust a move cool guy style. my favorite part was def the vocals on track 3, which are ran through a vocoder or talk box or something of the like. very cool!

(DISCLAIMER: This is a decently well-researched piece and is written with full compassion towards autistic people, but I am still a non-autistic woman writing about the music of an autistic man and its interpretation by an autistic audience. I’m likely to say something that may not be accurate to the experience or viewpoints of autistic people, so please let me know if I do anything of the sort.
