I never thought I would be reviewing a lil darkie album, let alone giving it such a positive review. I had all but forgotten about this guy until I saw this on the homepage here and was surprised to see it with such a positive score. When I then saw it had a shoegaze tag and an over 7 minute song I was very, very excited. However, upon first listen it fell short of my expectations as it sounded much more like neo-soul with bursts of loud metal and hip-hop, with very little shoegaze at all. ... read more
I quite liked the guitars here, especially the electric guitars, which really elevated the songs when they came in, but overall it was too j-rock for my tastes, I was hoping for more of a balance. Having said that, track 4 strikes that balance perfectly, and is maybe one of the best things I have ever heard, it’s incredible, and pretty much carries the album for me
I can only hope that I will one day be able to hear what I’m sure will be the masterpiece of this album
Edit: Uhhhh….. it’s pretty cool to finally get to listen to this but it’s not that good, it’s pretty funny though and I enjoy on some level.
This album is all about me actually, because me and big Sinna are just alike in the way that we are both in fact that n-
It took me a long time to come around on this, but once I did I fell in love with it massively. For the first few listens I really didn’t like much of it at all, aside from mays tracks and two horses, but I decided I would stick with it, and so after many more listens I finally slowly came around to the rest of the songs, almost one by one. One that grew on me the most was probably Nancy tries to take the night. Initially I didn’t love Tyler’s vocals that much at all on most ... read more
Can’t wait to see what he makes next, I reckon he has a really bright future ahead of him
Intro might be the most underrated rap song ever, the sample is insane, the drums are hard as hell and the rapping performances from benny the butcher and 38 spesh are absolutely top tier, listened to the rest of the album once years ago, kinda mid don’t remember too much.
WOT A LOAD ORF CRAP!!!! This Morissons bloke is a bludsy rubbish singer, ‘e’s just torking ‘arf the time, and his lyrics don’t make no sense mayte, someone outta tell ‘im that er crystal ship is gunna sink mayte. This album caught my eye due to its striking cover, which reminded me of the eraserhead poster (and I think there could be similar ideas to it here). Then when I saw it was Benjamin Booker from doves and was co-produced by Kenny Segull I knew I had to listen to it. I don’t think an album has surprised me this much in a while. It’s genuinely beautiful and Haunting at the same time, the blends of hip hop drums with distorted psych-noise rock guitar is a striking clash that beautifully ... read more
There’s something about this song that makes me come back to it again and again. I think it’s the fact it doesn’t have any structure, the best is all over the place, there’s no chorus and therefore no verses, it’s all just one thing. In particular this version is better than the album one, which is still great, but the lack of auto tune here, combined with the visceral and emotional delivery just makes this an absolute masterpiece, that I can’t get enough of, ... read more
When I first heard this album I hadn’t yet heard any of their other recent work, and so I didn't realise quite how a dramatic shift to a more accessible sound this was, but they absolutely pull it off incredibly well. The electro-pop elements mixed with Jamie’s unique vocals, and the incredible work of Angela and I think David is his name doing incredible work on the drums and electronic elements on the album. TDFTW is absolutely incredible, with a really catchy guitar hook ... read more
You can really hear the Beatles influence here. No but seriously this album is actually really good. The guitars and drums are insane throughout, and they seem to get into these really cool rhythms within themselves at points that just sound so cool. And they also just go all over the place crazy most of the time too, as do the vocals, which are just so scratchy and really uniquely intense. I’m glad this album is only 15 minutes, much more would be a testosterone over-dose, it really ... read more

It just feels so surreal to have new music from MGMT, and I just savour every moment listening to this, because I know it will most likely be a long wait for another album, if we ever do get one. But this album is a triumph in and of itself, taking the band in a somewhat new direction, akin to something like yoshimi battles the pink robots, but with a more electronic and pop feel. But that’s not all this album is, as there are songs like nothing to declare, that are nothing like that, and ... read more
