Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
96

When I first heard this album, it was too much to take in at once, it overwhelmed me and I was left feeling confused and underwhelmed by it. But on the second listen, everything clicked perfectly into place and it was incredible. All the songs here are incredible, even Hudson that sounded flat to me on first listen but I’ve come to see as beautiful the more I hear it. And then there is songs like Hannah hunt, that blows me away every time I get to the ending. It’s insane to see how ... read more

Vampire Weekend - Contra

This album sounds very different from their last album but still maintains the essence of them as a band. I feel like they took more experiments here with electronic elements and they definitely payed off. All the songs here feel unique and stand out, there are no forgettable tracks like some on the last album. The high points here are also much higher, with songs like giving up the fun or diplomats son being blending the classic indie style from the first album with more electronic elements to ... read more

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend

The debut from vampire weekend has very high highs with some lows, but overall no tracks are bad. This album sounds like what I imagine university to be in the best way, even from the album cover, that looks like a scene at a party. The indie sound of this album is really great and works on every track. Some in the second half are maybe less memorable but it begins and ends very strong and is overall a good debut that shows real promise that they would show to be true on future albums.

Gorillaz - Demon Days
95

Gorillaz will always be my favourite band, as they were the first band or music at all that I got into that I didn’t just hear from the radio. I also discovered them because of feel good inc. that my cousin used to play in the car with me, my brother and my grandad. When he died (my grandad) and I first got a proper phone, I looked up “the windmill song” and found it and my obsession started there. If all of that hadn’t happened, I might never have bothered to get a ... read more

Snowd4y - Wah Gwan Delilah

The fact I genuinely can’t tell if this is a joke, if it’s AI or if it’s serious is not good. If this is real, Drake what ore you doing? Genuinely horrific to listen to, but it’s probably AI

Kendrick Lamar - meet the grahams
90

Oh. Edit: this actually isn’t as good since Kendrick didn’t come with any proof, he just disappeared and has made no comment despite saying he could go further

Hobo Johnson - Peach Scone

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH someone take away this man’s access to recording equipment, please

Big Baller B - genre : bradboy

This project is a lot like DAMN. by Kendrick Lamar in that it tells two different stories played forward and backward. Played forwards it’s the story of a man who begins introspectively looking back on his life when he was poor and had nothing, in this way we see him appreciate what he has now. At this point in the narrative he comes into conflict with another person, dissing them, calling them a ‘clown’. This encounter leaves him bitter, swearing to be mean from now on and to ... read more

Swans - The Seer
100

Oh my god. I wasn’t going to review any swans albums but I felt I just had to review this after hearing it again. I think it’s their best album and it is terrifying. By the end I was curled up in a ball in the dark whispering make it stop to myself. The way they use the drums to create so much dread and anxiety is insane. There are songs on here that are guaranteed to fray every nerve in your body. There are also a few incredibly beautiful and calm songs in the second half of the ... read more

Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
97

This album is really really great. It should be up there with in rainbows as an album which isn’t massively influential but is just as good as their best. There are some of their most beautiful and best songs on this album with really great string sections and an amazing blend of quiet, intimate instrumentals while also being really interesting and complex. The emotion of the songs here is really powerful, you truly feel the loss in every track here. This is also the best send off they ... read more

Armand Hammer - We Buy Diabetic Test Strips [Reissue]
NR

The extra track here is actually incredible. I might come back to this once I’ve heard the rest of this new version as apparently it completes the album and there’s a few more changes made but the song is phenomenal.

Radiohead - In Rainbows
98

I wasn’t sure what to rate this album for a long time. I knew from my first listen it was going to be very high, but I didn’t know how high. There are some absolutely, truly heavenly moments on this album. There is so much release of emotion and tension on its best songs that it’s just so beautiful. The tracks that are slightly worse are still incredible, they provide a good balance to the watery and ethereal sounds of weird fishes, reckoner and nude. Overall, the album ... read more

Radiohead - Itch

This is again a kind of mashup of different songs that weren’t originally grouped together and again it has hits and misses. The version of stop whispering here is much worse than the one on the album in my opinion and thinking about is just forgettable. I strangely quite enjoy faithless, the wonder boy as it has a really catchy hook and banana co. is just more interesting because it’s a b side for the bends. The acoustic version of creep is quite nice but not really good.

Radiohead - Drill
50

This EP isn’t actually that bad as a first, very, very early blueprint for Pablo honey and the bends. All the versions of the songs from Pablo honey are worse here but the one new song feels like a very early use of Thom’s higher vocals. Still not good but not as bad as the other songs.

Radiohead - Anyone Can Play Guitar
49

This is kind of weird because it has a very different track list to the Spotify version but the tracks that are here are pretty mismatched from the bends and Pablo honey eras. Creep is good and killer cars is a good bends b side but the rest are just not great. I really don’t like anyone can play guitar and pop is dead is just cringe inducing and I can see why the band have tried to distance themselves from it as much as possible. Thinking about you is also just uninteresting like most ... read more

Radiohead - Creep
52

This is ok I guess but there’s not much here really, creep is a good song but the rest just feel like pablo honey off-cuts, they have quite nice hooks but not much else really stands out at all

Radiohead - The King of Limbs
85

I went into this album expecting to be underwhelmed and not really enjoy it. However I was pleasantly surprised to find it was actually very good. The looping production on each track makes it feel almost hypnotic when you lose yourself into the music. The vocals are hauntingly beautiful too. The album feels very murky, like a lotus flower blooming in a swamp. The second half is better than the first but overall it’s a great album

Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
82

This album has a good balance of electronic and rock elements in the instrumentals, which are mere complex and interesting than I originally thought. The songwriting on some songs is excellent. This is easily their most obviously political and social commentary album just from the album cover but while I feel the songs feel suitably creepy and strange, I found from looking at the lyrics that I couldn’t see much to some of the lyrics. It may be because they tried a less scrutinising and ... read more

Radiohead - Amnesiac
84

This album is kind of weird. It’s their most experimental and abstract album I’ve heard and it’s kind of all over the place with each song being its own contained story and having its own purpose. However, having said all that, nearly all the songs here are brilliant in their own way, combining different sounds Radiohead have tried before with new, strange ones. There are some very weird tracks like pulk/pull revolving doors and hunting bears that sometimes work and sometimes ... read more

"I would agree on most points, what I found so interesting on ILDMLFY was the introspection and usual Peggy lyrics contrast, the crazy new production style and the focused, tighter tracklist than many of his other albums. But I think the criticism of stagnation isn’t as important, he’s experimented with new elements on pretty much all his last albums across his career, so I think him not doing so for the first time is ok, I’m happy to just have more of the same, even if it isn’t as good as lots of what came before."

"This is yet another really good review, I’m not massively familiar with their previous eps, having only heard the first one once before listening to this, but I was personally very satisfied with their take on post punk post rock, I was really hoping they wouldn’t end up copying BCNR with the loud, sudden dynamic shifts to end their songs, so I loved the shorter songs either having a soft slow build or being fiery and brash throughout, and as for the longer songs, I found the mixing to be great, being grimy and muddy on something like look down on us, but then delicately balancing all the elements equally at the end of reconcile, and I loved how the length allowed them to morph or shift into sonic phases. Also I preferred the sax to before."

Also, don’t feel pressured to do more reviews than you want to, I always appreciate the depth and personality you bring to them, but if you need to take time for yourself thats far more important."
