Blackwater Park certainly isn’t bad. But, it sounds too much like a rock album and not a metal album. This dilutes a lot of the heaviness and makes the metal and death aspects seem weak. The acoustic interludes just seem copied and pasted and don’t make much musical sense at all. I just don’t feel like much was conveyed well here at all. I can appreciate many of the riffs and compositions on this album but the songs just end up being incredibly cheesy and unnecessarily theatrical which throws off the intensity of what Periphery is going for.
