This EP is the reason chuds exist because nothing ever happens in it
I mean I think Interview D is good, but the rest of these songs are mediocre if not just straight up bad (Interview E). In fact, interview E is, in my opinion, Death Grips' ONLY bad song. They have other songs which are just mid, but Interview E is the biggest nothing burger this band has ever made.
Death Grips without MC RIde is like that "Gimme a cheese with nothing" ad
Death Grips is NOTHING without the funny screaming guy 😡
I deadass was gonna rate this after The Powers That B, but then fell asleep halfway through it, & didn't remember anything. Ok, this albums actually not THAT bad, but MC Ride, in my opinion, has always been the best contributor to DG as a band. Without his abrasive vocals, or the lyrics that he reads, Death Grips lacks. It's not that my issue with this album is for it being instrumental, it's just that it's so ... read more
God damn it, I really wish I could give this just one more point, because this really is such an amazing album (Also because my follow score for the album is 81, & not 82, smh). Unlike something like No Love Deep Web, which has a similar score to this album, I think every song on this album is at least good. No song here falls into mediocrity, but at the same time, you also have songs like Death Grips Is Online, which is EASILY one of Death Grips' best songs, and one of their best ... read more
I'm kinda surprised so many people think this is the best DG album. I mean yeah, it has many of their best songs. Sonically too, it stands out well from their other albums, and sounds great. Even in terms of lyrical complexity, this is yet another album where you could spend hours analyzing the lyrics. But I just feel as if conceptually, and thematically, this album doesn't offer as much as something like The Money Store, or even other albums by them, which didn't have a coherent ... read more
I know, of course the most noise rock adjacent album by DG is my favorite, is anyone really surprised? Biases aside, I do really think this is DG's best album. Any critiques I held against their previous works are completely voided in this album. I mean just saying "yeah every song stands out on it's own" would be somewhat of an understatement. The sonic diversity of this album is unmatched not just by other DG albums, but by most other albums in general. The songs are ... read more
I think this album gets too much slack. Sure, by this point in Death Grips discography, it was without a doubt their most forgettable work, but I still think it stands well enough on its own as an album. I almost view it in the same vein as No Love Deep Web, but perhaps with a small shift down on the quality scale. I don't think it has quite as many highs, but once again, as with No Love Deep Web, there are tracks that don't meet DG standards for sure, but even those songs aren't ... read more
So I used to run this Swans shitpost account called "the_sound_by_swans_daily", some of you may have heard it, but hopefully that wouldn't be all you know me for 😭. One time, a good friend of mine made a suggestion for what to do once I hit the 1000 follower milestone. "You should write The Sound on your dih for 1000, like the No Love Deep Web cover" I actually hadn't listened to this album at the time, so that reply was my first experience of it or something ... read more
Ah, the holy grail of RYM & the Anthony Fantano-dom, "The Money Store". In all seriousness, despite this album having earned a reputation of being enjoyed exclusively by chronically online music nerds, it is still an amazing album. Now I do disagree with the RYM crowd that it is their best album... but anyone can understand why they may think this. Many of my praises for Exmilitary carry on to this album as well, and in some cases, they are even amplified. "So then why give ... read more
Huge shoutout to @Blackmore for recommending this mixtape to me (& sorry I didn't rate it sooner). I actually found it very difficult to believe on first listen to believe that this wasn't a full fleshed studio album. Like this is really something MC Ride & co. just said "oh yeah we just kinda made that one day". And for it to also be better than most of their later output as well. Throughout the entire mixtape, it remains sonically, lyrically, & thematically ... read more
Finally getting back to this account lmao, I apologize for my disappearance, I don't really have that good of an excuse to be honest 😭. Alright now to the actual album. I figured since I have listened to and DEEPLY enjoyed their previous album "Ants From Up There" I might as well give this album a listen too. The second half is definitely far superior to the first half, while the first half is enjoyable, many of the songs almost feel like extended or prolonged interludes that ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #18 Finally getting around to reviewing and rating this album, apologies for my absence. The first of Swans fundraiser albums, this includes a lot of demos and early versions of tracks from it, as well as some live performances of songs from My Father Will Guide Me... Of the live versions of songs from that album, I enjoyed them more here. Not only did they perform 3 of the albums highlights, but they are more completely envisioned in these performances. As for the ones for The ... read more
Although I do kinda wish there was more to it other than a short piece of ambience, it sounds good enough to where I can give it a good score.
Swans Deep Dive #17 Talk about pointless. I didn't really want to listen to this EP, mainly because it's the lowest rated project by Swans that is available to listen to on streaming services. I'm not sure why Michael Gira and co. felt it necessary to release this, it doesn't add anything special to their discography. The original Oxygen from To Be Kind is easily among the best songs that Swans has ever released, but the versions here come no where close to the quality of ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #16 This album acts as somewhat of a precursor to the trilogy, especially The Seer. One half of me feels like this album should be talked about more, but another half of me feels like this album could've been more interesting. I mean, it sure isn't as interesting as anything from the trilogy, but at the same time, it's the Swans trilogy, that's some pretty fierce competition. To be completely honest, the best way I can describe this album is as a trailer to ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #15 Deleted original review because I felt that for how much I adore this album, I didn't give it the praise it deserves. So far and from what I have listened to, this is easily one of my favorite Swans albums, and one of my favorite albums period. Swans take every emotional aspect of their music and push it further than they ever have before, creating their most ambitous work ever. Whether it's the somber tone of the opener, Feel Happiness, or the horrifying Jarboe ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #14 Only Swans could release a 53 minute project, and call it an EP. Despite only being an EP that leads up to Soundtracks For The Blind, this project actually stands well on its own. The first track on this album is probably the most Soundtracks For The Blind song ever. It combines and samples several songs from Soundtracks, including I Love You This Much and Helpless Child. The product of this is one Swans' best songs ever as despite being samples of those songs, in ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #13 Not an album made by the band, but I figured I'd listen to it since it has some songs that are performed on Swans Are Dead. At times intimidating and at other times very pretty sounding. You can hear hints of all their 90's albums in this album, every song seems to take heavy influence from White Light and The Great Annihilator. They even remake a song with the same lyrics and a similar title to "I See Them All Lined Up". "Blind" is not only a ... read more
Swans Deep Dive #12 Yet another Swans album with much a LOT of conflicting discourse surrounding it. I think of the songs that they included on this album, they did improve them certainly. However, the main thing limiting this album is probably the no wave era of Swans itself being what it is. This album is proof that some of the best music by Swans is their live renditions of songs, that (generally speaking), Swans' music becomes much more powerful when performed live. But the issue is ... read more
