What is this thing? "Exmilitary" is a bit of an odd record. It's odd sonically of course, but it's also weird how Death Grips had their sound figured out from this early on. Loud abrasive beats, crazy rapping from Mc Ride, lyrics that make little to no sense, and an overall feeling of unease. This record touches on a lot of concepts, little of which I can figure out, but most of it stems from anger and frustration at society and the world itself. The feelings of "Exmilitary" ... read more
When I heard this shit in the theater I laughed my ass off. Jack Black cant be human π
I wanna live in that cover. "After the Magic" is Parannoul matured. The biggest improvement is obviously the production. It keeps the same lo-fi aesthetic as Parannouls previous works, while not sounding like it was made in a dishwasher. The instrumentals this time around are even more dreamy and silky, weaving together incredible sounds that evoke a sense of majesty. Like you've been transported to a dreamscape where all your troubles melt away. The vocals are as amazing as ever, ... read more
Recorded at the top of the empire state building. "To See the Next Part of the Dream" had me confused on first listen. I loved the direction Parannoul was taking it, but I had gripes. I love lo-fi music, but this was the first time it impacted me negatively. Sometimes it's so quiet its hard to pick up on details, but more often it's just blown out HEAVILY. When I can barley hear what you're trying to do that's a problem. Now to the positives! I love the vocals a ton. The way he can ... read more
Suburbia at its finest. "The Suburbs" is another evolution for arcade fire, in the sense that this is their most cohesive album yet. The premise is simple, it's about life in the suburbs. The band members spend the time on the album talking about the trials and tribulations of living in those places and how it affected them in the long run. I love this concept because of how unique it is, but I also love how Arcade Fire handled it. The songs themselves are the usual for the band, ... read more
Praise be the neon bible! "Neon Bible" doesn't have the status of arcade fire's first album , but in my opinion it takes what was so good about it and cranks it up to 11. I like "Neon Bible" more than Funeral for a couple of reasons. Sonically it way more diverse. They bring in a host of new ideas and new instruments that make every song feel free and creative. Everything pops and it just feels so alive and unwavering. The feelings that Funeral brought out were more ... read more
A downright beautiful record. "Funeral" is one of the most definitive art rock albums ever, and that's for good reason. Every song takes you on a magical journey that arcade fire created, with a unique sound and feeling to each one. The record feels so whole and well thought out, each second is pure bliss. This is a very harrowing listen, and it will make you cry if your not prepared. "Funeral" is a wonderful record that deserves your attention.
I wanna eat the cover. "Currents" is like innerspeaker, but the psychedelia is turned up to 11. All the songs have this cinematic feel to them, and mixed with the psychedelic production and instrumentals makes this the most "full" sounding tame impala album. We start with the dreamy and spacey "Let It Happen", and we finish with the epic "New Person, Same Old Mistakes". In-between we have softer moments like "Yes I'm Changing", "'Cause I'm ... read more
Is it weird that I like Innerspeaker more? "Lonerism" is a great album, but as a sophomore record I'd expect more. This has the same feel as Innerspeaker, just a little worse. I don't know if its the more drab vocals or the different feel to the instrumentals, but somethings holding me back a little. What I do know is that this is the opposite of front heavy. The 2nd half is the better half, having the more involved songs, but that doesn't stop the last track from being a little ... read more
Alter Ego is the best tame impala song. "Innerspeaker" left me with my jaw open on my fist listen. It's incredible psychedelia that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. I know it's a drawn out complement, but the fact that Kevin did all of this himself is mind blowing. He perfects each and every part of this record do a ridiculous degree. The instrumentals are the definition of beautiful, the vocals are a lovely complement, and the production is unexplainably perfect. This ... read more
TRST part 2. "Joyland" is just more of what we got on Tr/st's previous album. Same mellow vocal delivery, same ethereal production, same synths, etc. What's different is the overall feeling of it. While TRST felt spooky and atmospheric, "Joyland" is more sorrowful and subdued. More chill beats, quite moments, and whispery vocals. It doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I still wanted to point that out. Anyways, it's a solid synthpop album that stays in its ... read more
Spooky. "TRST" is what I would like to call "a good time" It's just solid synthpop that you can jam to and get lost in. With its ethereal production and enchanting atmosphere it creates a vibe that is very unique. My one critique is the vocals. I get that the vocals are not the main point of the album, but he could of at least tried. It sounds like he's drunk throughout the whole thing, and when he does up the vocals they're kinda bad. With that being said, I still had a ... read more
Outdated as hell lol, will update this soon.
I don't know what to say. It is a good pop album. It's not lacking in depth or anything, in fact it has a ton of depth, I just don't want to explore it. I don't get this album at all. What is it trying to be? It's so all over the place its hard to pin down. Some tracks are fun, others are more melancholy, but they all share one thing, a lack of meaning or direction. You want to send a message Marina? How are these tracks ... read more
Of course peggy is the highlight of the track, but reveil has some really good bars too.
The popiest pop rap. "USEE4YOURSELF" is a major improvement on IDK's last album. This feels more put together, more throughout, and more emotional. The concept of this album is fairly simple. It's a reflection on toxic masculinity and how it affects IDK, which I thought was handled really well. It dwells deep into how he feels about women, relationships, and life itself. These tracks complement the concept very well, with the features adding a great deal. IDK has some really great ... read more
Before I get started I just wanted to say how incredible it is that I hit 300 followers. You guys are the best and there’s no way to describe how happy I am. On to the review!
Does pineapple belong on pizza? “IS HE REAL?” Is a really interesting album on paper, with the main focus being on answering a question. Is god real? Throughout all of the record we see IDK tackle this question in many ways, and that’s my first problem. This is 35 minutes of content spread around ... read more
Cute cat :). “Tourist History” is the best Two Door Cinema Club album by a long stretch, but it still has its faults. This is a messy project there’s no denying that. Its structure resembles a crumbling building in the way where nothing is in order. Another thing that I didn’t like were the vocals. They were so painfully average and by the end I was getting a little tired of em. Where this record shines is the instrumentals, god they are so good. They elevate the vocals ... read more
Mr. Genius got even weirder with this one. “ Set My Heart on Fire Immediately” is way more avant-garde than his past releases, and that harms the record some what. It gets REALLY boring in some spots, and in others the experimentation is just to much. What saves this record is the vocals 100%. This is Perfume Genius at his best when it comes to vocals and it’s not very close. From the bombast to the intimate his voice shines through as a pillar of sorrow and hope rolled into ... read more
I love abstract geometry! "No Shape" is like "Too Bright" but on speed. Way heavier instrumentals on this one. Where this album shines to me is the vocals. I liked the vocals on his last LP, but on this one he came to play. They pop out on all these lush undertones and truly take a spotlight on most songs. The way this record handles all these interconnected parts is mind boggling and a true testament to how incredible perfume genius is. A wonderful record.
