Powerful. "kenopsia" is such a cool project. It's noisy in all the right ways, it's hard hitting, and it has these insane vocals that sound like the guy was on drugs half the time. Like seriously I can't get over how much I like this guys voice. You know how they say the voice is like an instrument? Well on this record you'd be right. He uses his voice like any instrument, leading these haunting melodies and gorgeous notes. It blends so well with these lo-fi recordings and its just so ... read more
This is true Japanese Breakfast pop! "Jubilee" is just fun. It's so much fun packed in to a 37 minute package. Every song is groovy and could make anyone get out of their seat and dance. The vibe of this record cant be described. It's bubbly and sweet, like REALLY sweet. I don't have a whole lot to say, but this is still fantastic! (Also that cover is cool)
Pray indeed. "Pray For Haiti" is a great jazz rap record. It has so much soul and heart put into it. The beats are really interesting, they remind me of earl sweatshirt's beats just more striped back. Mach-Hommy's rapping is incredible. His voice is just so enchanting to listen to I get lost in all of his verses. The features are great too, they bring the best out of each other and make the album that much better. I think this is Mach-Hommy's first real album sounding album imo. It ... read more
These really are soft sounds. "Soft Sounds From Another Planet" is a kind of metamorphosis album for Japanese Breakfast. She went full rock for this one, and I say it pays off 90% of the time. It really works with the sound she established on her previous release. What this record does right is the experience it makes. It's like a warm hug the whole way through, you always feel at ease with these soft sounding songs. This hits all the checkmarks for a dream pop/ indie rock record, ... read more
Bro is having a blast! "Slide" is a great pop record. The production is vast and heavy, while at points being spacey and dreamy. George's vocals are unique in so many cool ways. The way he holds notes and sings with a kind of numbed stature. He feels almost like a spirit in these songs, guiding us through a world of wonderful synths and beats while whispering who knows what. Every song is special in it's own way, whether it's the way of production or the tone of delivery. This is a ... read more
This is something truly amazing. What Quadeca pulled off here is extraordinary and he should be so happy with the progress he's made as an artist. "I Didn't Mean To Haught You" is a really unique concept record. It's about a ghost reconciling with its situation after it committed suicide. Greif, loss, depression, these are all things touched upon in the span of just 1 hour. The songs are lyrically dense, weaving together story after story. These tracks are art pieces, each one ... read more
Woah :D "good kid, m.A.A.d city" is what Kendrick was destined to make. It's a dense, lyrically focused record that has so much heart packed into it. A true marvel and spectacle. It feels like Kendrick put his rapping into high gear. His flows are intoxicating, building a web of words and stories and poems. His demeanor is that of an older brother who's just talking about life and what not. The whole story of "good kid, m.A.A.d city" is a story of adolescence and the ... read more
BRO WAS COOKING π₯π₯π₯ "Section.80" is a great time. It's nothing heavy or plot driven like some of Kendrick's other albums, it's just fun. I would describe it as chill, relaxed, vibe-y. Very interesting bars and flows, great features, nice atmosphere. Some may say it's his most boring project, but they have it wrong. It's his most straight forward album. He wasn't trying to do anything crazy, he was just going with the flow and crafting a laid-back experience that cant be ... read more
Da hell is this? "Wicked City" is my first Jockstrap experience, and it's a solid one. Never in my life would I expect Injury Reserve to be on a project like this, but here we are. The song is good too, probably the best on this EP. Everything after Robert is a different story however. Acid is fine. It's just fine, nothing really good or bad about it. Yellow in Green is just boring. Nothing bad, just really boring. The City is good. It's fun and enjoyable, if a bit too empty. City ... read more
So this is the guy who helped produce Little Dark Age... I can tell. "pom pom" is a wacky ass album. The sheer levels of silliness are off the charts. You know what else is off the charts? The quality of songs on this record. With Ariel Pink being the sole role on this, I was concerned it was going to sound sloppy and unfinished. Boy was I wrong! This is quality work right here, you can really tell how much love he put into the project. The lo-fi-y soundscapes on "pom pom" ... read more
Damn. "Glass City" is an album that I was was looking forward to after I gave Fews last record a 10, but unfortunately they didn't deliver with this one. The energy they previously had is sparse, the instrumentals are kinda sloppy and lazy, the mixing can be really washed out at points, and the feel of the record is just off. A couple of the tracks are great, the closer is fantastic and brings some well needed energy, In Head is the best song on the record and really nails what they ... read more
I feel like I'm in space! "Channel the Spirits" is something else entirely. It's jazzy, it's spacey, it's super intense. They really nailed the presentation of this album and how it was constructed. The songs range from chill sessions to full on jazz explosions. I have a ton of scattered thoughts about this record, but ill just stick to the main ones. It's wildly creative whether it comes to the structures of songs or how they use certain instruments. The electric elements are always ... read more
They have YUNGBLUD on a song, and its good?!?!?! "POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR" will forever be the best Bring me the Horizon album. It's them taking a more mature route in their music, and I'm all for it. So I'm gonna get my problems out first. It gets kinda tedious by the end. At the beginning bmth come in with a great sound and a great energy, but as you move further along in the album the energy becomes stale and the sound stays the exact same. Song after song of the same tropes ... read more
I didn’t click with this as much as some people. “ The Glow Pt. 2” is a good album, and I understand why people love it, but I think it’s just a teeny bit overrated. It has great songs of course, I love all the lo-fi recordings and the fuzzy guitars and the great vocals. I like the lyrics a lot and I love how The Microphones portray their messages. I love the overall feel of the record and how it takes me to another place entirely. I love all of those thing's, yet I just ... read more
This record will break you down to your very core. It will make you feel like absolute crap in all the wrong ways. That's not to say that Deathconsciousness is bad or anything, it's the exact opposite. It's just that even after I give this a listen and another and another I just get more and more lost in the world of this album. I cant see beyond its heavy textures and sounds that feel like pain and sorrow. It baffles me how someone could make something like this, because they'd have to be in ... read more
This guy can scream. "SO BELOW" Is full of energy, talent, and pure charm. I'll start off talking about the rapping. NEHEMIA has great flows and high energy the whole album and can scream REALLY well too. The production can be a little flat, but overall is good. The beats are crazy fun and work really well with NEHEMIA's style. They really pop out and make the project feel like a basement concert on crack. Of course he's similar to acts like Jpegmafia and Ghais Guevara, but he ... read more
I wanna live in beatopia. "Beatopia" is Beabadoobee fully realized. This has her best production, best vocals, and it has a deeper emotional standing too. I can not stress enough how much I love her vocals. She always kills it no matter if she's going for a softer touch or a full on rager and it’s so unique it makes every song that much better. The way this record switches between the gentle and the heavy is remarkable. I've seen very few artist pull it off perfectly, but Bea ... read more
You got this Yoshimi. "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots" was one hell of a record. It's even more psychedelic than The Soft Bulletin and takes a different direction too. We're fully in the realm of psychedelic pop now, which I believe The Flaming Lips handled really well. They take their incredible textures and wonderful instrumentals and roll it into one. They breathe a new life into the blueprints of their previous works, and it pays off in full. The vocals are even more whispery ... read more
Bro is dancing with his shadow!!! "The Soft Bulletin" is a ride like no other. The psychedelic landscapes this album builds are truly unique and one of a kind, each one spanning across several different feelings and genres. This records strong suit is the dynamic builds it makes. They make you feel as if your soaring on a cloud of heavy synths and hard hitting drums while being serenaded by smooth vocals. The way each tracks transitions into one another is breath taking, and every ... read more
Ima put yall on rq. "Foreign Tapes" is a relatively unknown record made by a relatively unknown artist, so me finding it was pretty lucky. This is just a nice pop record with beautiful dual vocals, enchanting synths, and a vibe that can only be described as a bright summer day. It really is amazing how well balanced the vocals are, with each vocalist trading takes with ease. They flow seamlessly with each other, like they've been honing this for years. The instrumentals are bright and ... read more
