FKA twigs - MAGDALENE

*first impression*

An important disclaimer would be that if you’re expecting anything remotely close to LP1, you need to change your expectation.

That may ultimately be where my disconnection stems from.

Songs feel disjointed, trying to achieve progression, and ultimately failing to achieve the punchy hooks that her previous work did.

Sure the songs and performances can be beautiful at times, but a lot of the time, I felt the overall performances to be boring, and the production to ... read more

Angel Olsen - All Mirrors

My first impression floored me.

The transition from My Woman to All Mirrors I felt was similar to Perfume Genius’ Too Bright to No Shape, both being that they went from shyer, more ballad driven compositions to a more grand, orchestral type sound.

Not a complete review but I can’t see this being anything less than a 90.

Iglooghost - XYZ

XYZ is Iglooghost going a slightly deviant EDM route but it’s nonetheless catchy and entertaining while retaining its identity.

I’m very careful to identify music this way, but Virgins is an experience. It’s not an album that can be dissected and placed into a playlist comfortably with music in a similar genre; it is an album that must be listened ... read more

Angel Olsen - MY WOMAN
92

Angel Olsen is at her best when she is raw, unfiltered, and succumbing to the emotional vulnerabilitity that permeates through her strong quivering voice.

My Woman is focused, direct, and does not deviate away from its strengths. Angel Olsen is a both a singer and a character in My Woman, singing, pleading, and demanding with a strong emotive voice that is constantly quaking with emotion. Lyrically, she is versatile, standing firm, demanding that people would ask to emapthize on what makes ... read more
