As a first-time listener, I’m not sure how much the change in tracks affected the album, but it seemed to meld well together to me.

It’s rough around the edges, with coarse guitar work and tumbling vocal delivery, and it’s all the better for it.

The band’s definitely taken a page out of Vampire Weekend’s book (what with shared producers, mutual sonic inspirations, and recent collaborations around the time of this release), but they’re pulling it off like it’s nobody’s business.

Maybe not the most inventive release in 2020s post-punk but still solidly performed and bringing some infectious energy.

It’s not the most interesting or inventive (miles behind Brick Body Kids), and admittedly I didn’t end up loving it, but Mr. Eagle’s still packing enough humor and heart to make this worth relistening to.

This thing is wildly inventive, tongue-in-cheek, and so far removed from a lot of the era’s alternative rock, yet you can still hear how its sound became influential. Black and company cooked with this one.
